  • I'd rather been a member of this group than the Beatles. These guys not only made some great hits, but they seemed like they had a lot of fun. All I ever seen out of the Beatles was diving in some pool in Miami and falling over backwards on some ski slope.

  • I was about 12 when this song made the big scene. I have always rated it a favorite of mine when the only complaint being that it is over so quickly.

  • Very kool fave audio/vid - thanks! Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • dc5 kicked beatles ass

  • I always wondered how much Dave Clark actually helped write any of their songs. It seemed that his name ended up on all of the groups original songs.

  • I'm sorry, they kicked the Beatles ass's.

  • I love the SOUND of DC5 more than the Beatle sound. And I think Mike Smith could have been a GREAT Beatle and made the Beatle sound even better.

  • U.K. B-side was 'Say You Want Me' which sounds a bit like 'Anyway You Want It'...Ol' Sol (Epic 9792, October 1964)was US

  • @Xnerodem Heard that this was their follow-up to their biggest hit at the time,Because,BTW!!!

  • who had the song on the other side of that single? is it on youtube someplace?

  • one of only a few in which Lenny Davidson was listed as co writer with Dave Clark

  • Is this the only band that has two songs that share the same title?

  • awesome....great song...!

  • the nutty squirrels do a cover of this.

  • great song

  • whos drumming?

  • @musicmanregina - that would be Mr. Dave Clark. Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • To an extent, they are part singing live, part lip synching. In some parts of the song, Denis Payton does not play his saxophone but there is a saxophone on the backing track.

  • never understood why dc5 had 2 totally different songs ... with the same name. maybe too lazy to think up another name for the 2nd. one!

  • My favorite DC5 song, with "Sometimes" running a very close 2nd.

  • Mike Smith, one of the greates voices of english rock!!Rest in peace,Mike!!

  • @karinaport yeah, mike smith was an awsome singer...I thought he was as good as John Lennon

  • @inkey2

Yes. Mike Smith was also a very accomplished musician, from a very early age, on keyboards, specializing on the piano.

He was also just as much, (if not more), of a "heart throb" to the birds, as Paul Mc Cartney.

  • *5(¸.•´(¸.•´awesome`•.¸)` •.¸)5*i love it

  • love the DC-5 ! but they have to be the only band that could record 2 different songs with the same title?

Everybody knows- 1965, and completely different song with same title in 1967?

They also recorded the Mulberry Bush in 1963 and the Mulberry Tree in 1969. ! Whoa?

  • One of many great songs from the Dave Clark 5. Overshadowed by the Beatles at times, they held their own with the number of hits that they had. Loved their harmony along with the organ and sax.

  • @newhotman1001 - right-on, brother! Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • Now I know Leonard Cohen didn't cover this. A great song!

  • I thought that MIke smith is the lead singer on this?

  • He is. In their live appearances, it's sometimes hard to tell who the lead singer is. But it's Mike. I love Mike's voice, one of the most underrated voices in rock. This dude could sing as good as anybody!

  • to bad he died so young

  • @dougalmac54 they have 2 songs with the title everybody knows this seems to be the only video of this hit the searchers had 2 songs with the same title as well

  • Ahem... **somebody** keeps forgetting to 'play' his sax! LOL.

I agree jaofrd13, this is my favourite DC5 song and hugely under-rated.

  • A very haunting melody. My favorite song by them. Too bad when they play their songs on the radio, it's rarely played!

  • @jaofrd13

Yes. I think this is their best song. (And they had many good ones.)

The melody haunted me for years and now I rediscovered it on YouTube.

    Thank you Xnerodem!

  • I have never seen a drummer sit in front of his group like that . .

  • hahaha..neither have I. But he is their namesake..

  • One of my favorite songs by them.

  • already add this to my quiclist, well done

  • good music!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the most beautiful and haunting songs ever performed by the DC5. Harmonies that can melt the heart. Love that Vox Continental organ, a classic design that still looks so modern and contemporary in appearance.

  • Outstanding. Thanks for the post.

  • The harmonies? Beautiful. The sax? Kickin'! Power pop in excelsius. My favorite by the DC5. Thanks for posting. Cheers.

  • This one, very underrated, Haunting harmonies,[Beatleesque] Mike Smith a perfect lead vocalist for their songs, I never knew that D C wasnt the lead Vocalist.

  • Lenny Davidson is the lead singer on this with overdub harmonies

  • One of their few songs not written by

Dave Clark & Mike Smith.Lenny Davidson

thier guitarist is listed As for Dennis

not playing the sax it was common in the

60's to simply lip sing to your records on TV

most shows had very tight scheduling

  • Amazing how the sax player can play his instrument without even putting his mouth to it. ;o)

  • Nice to have a video of this song ,there was one of the other song with the same title that the dc 5 and engleburt did.

  • Beautiful memories come back again. This another great song from the DC5. Rock N Roll at its magical best. Hey, Mike Smith, we still love and miss you dearly! We will never forget you!

  • One of the best sunshine pops songs of all time. It is brimming with optimism and positivity, from the "Golden Age" of the early sixites music of Great Britain. What wonderful memories indeed!!

  • What wonderful memories--and I'm a teenager again!

  • emm

i like the group and the music

but im not a deep fun of them

    so...

    dave's the drummer o.O?

    or the pianist?

    =/ :$

  • Mike Smith was the lead singer and pianist. Dave Clark was the drummer.

  • I was in love with Mike Smith

  • OK, I loved this song and several more by DC-5. How is it they had two songs with the same title? And one really sucks? Guess which one?

  • I would assume you agree with me that it is the OTHER one. Actually, I think the title of this one is "Everybody Knows (I still love you)", and the other is simply "Everybody Knows". I was disappointed years ago when I bought the "14 Million World Sellers" (vinyl LP), I was expecting this song on it, it had the other, sounds deceptive to me. At least that album also has "Catch Us If You Can" and "Because", both great songs in different styles.

  • Another Gem I found on here, "All of The Time", A little scratchy but it was the "B" side of "Bits and Pieces" in 1964. Type it in THe SEARCH field above, Its like im 15 all over again, Murry the K played it on WINNSAM Radio in LONG ISLAND. What Memories. I really miss you Mike Smith, You guys were "outta site"

  • I bought my Beatle boots like the DC 5 are wearing at Flag Brothers at the May Company for 9,95.Man would i love to find a pair of those today.

  • Haunting melody/vocals. Great song to sing your ass off! Congrats DC5 and welcome to the R and R Hall of FAME...Its about Friggen time. JJs from Phila

  • It's too bad and sad that Mike Smith died just a couple months before the induction.

  • Some people don't realize that the DAVE CLARK FIVE actually sold more records in 1965 than the Beatles! Great group with 4 or 5 mega hits...

  • Great song....great group....thanks for the post!!!
