I can feel and sense something very wrong here. All these strange sounds coming from the earth being reported are not a hoax. Strange sounds are being reported all over the earth now. They are not a hoax. I am beginning to feel that Cern the LLc is a key part of 2012 and that the stranglets have something to do with this. I feel Cern has created a black hole that could be growing and I feel an explosion in that area. This would explain the strange new noises heard around the world and 2012.
you could run all pc games in the world in the same time and you could just use alt-tab to switch between them while watching youtube and downloading stuff...
I think it's great that CERN tries to share their research methods and results with the public at large but these videos are a pain to watch. They basically ignore 2 big principles of PR-management: 1) Don't delude a very earnest and serious message with "comic relief", it does not work and ridicules the actual content. 2) Know your public: however wide your audience might be, they are people who want to learn about physics research. They want results, information, theoretical background, etc.
Some feedback: Please please please please quit the kiddy comic style of some of the news items. People interested in physics details are not interested in muppets trailers. Rather give technical details and diagrams of how stuff works. And show it, rather than tell it. And don't try to impress with large numbers.. the details themselves will impress more than enough.
@penkie1 Dear Penkie1, We appreciate your feedback.
This Video programme is aimed at the public at large. Details on physics can be found on the CERN website and the websites of the individual experiments.
@CERNTV Thanks for the reply. FYI, I'm not a physicist nor scientist, but I am part of that public at large. My feeling is that you try to make this video for everyone by addressing this video to subgroups (e.g. kids).. and in the process you lose almost everyone. I know it's hard to appeal to the general public, but it is possible, look at Cosmos from Sagan and BBC's Earth: The Power of the Planet for examples of programs that managed to appealingly communicate complex science to the public.
@penkie1 I am a CERN physicist and, frankly, I am glad to be informed that the Muppets have been tinkering with my experiment. It might explain a few things. I certainly would not want for them to drop that. However, maybe there could be a split into two different shows: one for public and one targeting the internal audiences.
I had the same idea when I was making Grid Task project. I am happy to see that at CERN there are persons who understand the power of grid computing in conjuction with cloud computing. Analyzing of a big amount of data and implementing machine learning algorithms for cancer diagnosis and prognosis scaling on this big amount of data, could be the next frontier: the use of technology to cure and prevent disease in realtime. How much I would love to work with you, CERN!
@kyraha there are two options. either they really fuck it up badly... at least they have a good party for finishing the time... or they discover something great and have enough to party. basically ... having enough champagne is always good after 5 p.m XD
if you need some processing power just make sure that the program that you are using use an open GPGPU API like opencl, it will be my pleasure to deploy my GPU to hunt for those fancy hidden dimension
@TheRolemodel1337 we could, before LCH was lunched, they where calibrating magnets and some times given some jobs to volunteers through BOINC application for PC, Linux and Mac.
But as I remember they don't need our help anymore. :(
On the community forum some post saying basically that it's taking to long to get results from volunteers and they need processed data faster so they will use they're own grid.

I love how they have tons of Champagne in the control room so that if they make a big discovery
they can celebrate!
