  • That is one narrow ass runway! Great video, many thanks!

  • wonderful video, but please no Comic Sans next time! ;-)

  • How could there be a single dislike on this video? These videos by SuredT are Great!!!

  • ILS Landing

  • This is such an amazing video!! Everything from the beauty of the clouds, the technical side , professionalism of the pilots (KLM IS THEEEE BEST!) and my Gosh you hovered 10 feet above ground before setting that heavy plane down! You show off!! lol :)

  • @wowfreak800......So what you`re saying is that SuredT...(the pilot, and one who recorded and uploaded this vid) just thinks he`s flying a 747??? please humor some more and tell me what makes you think this is an MD-11.

  • amazing! best so far ..very clear and smooth .

  • sorry I misspelled bird and this person needs to be a pilot with maybe overseas capabilities?

  • Hello Captain I'm looking for transportation of my bir and myself? Can't offer you much though except something you would consider the most priceless gift of all. What is it? I won't say here but if you may be interested I will leave my Email address. Trust me when I say it is the most priceless gift of all. If you're not interested please send me someone who may be? Here is my E-mail address: janr1955@comcast.net

  • Why not let it continue to land on autopilot?

  • how did they do this 50 years ago? VOR only no DME's no GPS's no nothing but really big cohones and a lot of skill.

  • @oldschoolgreentube

ILS (Instrument Landing System) technology goes back to the '40s, and this particular approach was well above normal Category I ILS Minimums of 1/2 mile visibility at the Decision Altitude of 200 feet above the ground - the "Minimums" call on the video..... Current technology (including redundant autopilots) will allow a properly equipped airplane and trained crew to land with nearly no visibility and zero ceiling.

  • nice , very nice video. thx

  • Good job :D

  • Very interesting to watch, thanks for posting!

  • That was a beautiful capture of the clouds. Great job dude

  • How do you know where the runway is? are they directed by the air traffic controller or something?

  • @mdhfinsc autopilots and ILS (type it in google)

  • Comment removed

  • how do you keep it so steady?

  • its crazy

  • Very nice, smooth landing!! That cloud deck was incredible, but just as amazing that it cleared to good-enough visibility that you could land the a/c by hand. I'm curious - you said the it was a max-weight landing; why so heavy coming in? I would not have expected it at all; unless you needed to carry enough fuel for the next leg?

  • Are you a KLM captain? is it just 747's you fly?

  • perfect landing amazing!!!

  • Ah, modern avionics. So cool!

  • Perfect landing!!!

  • cargo?

  • Greased it!!!

  • Smooth landing ! great pilot !!

  • Co-Pilot says to Pilot @ 3:58,

"SSSAAAAYYYYYYY........., what's that MOUNTAIN GOAT doing in the clouds ?

  • That was FANTASTIC!

  • In two weeks I will be in Almaty. I hope the weather will be better than this.

  • A 747 to Almaty ? Must be cargo right ?

  • wow quite a high landing speed!

  • long flare

  • Captain SuredT: Terrific landing sequence. It reminds me of flying into Almaty every time I watch. Outstanding! Отлично! Молодец! Өте тамаша екен! If you ever fly into Almaty on a nice clear day, can you film an entire landing again all the way to the terminal building? With the Tian Shan mountains in the background, the scenary is amazing. Thanks. Вам спасибо большое. Сізге көп рахмет! Best Regards.

  • now i know whats that sound. (disconnect of auto pilot) nice video!!

  • make a vid of how u became a pilot!!!

  • @Insanegaming2010 He has a full time job lol, google...

  • How does a pilot no what flap setting to use?

  • @sharpers123 Lots of experience and training. Remember that to them this is just routine.

  • @JCLounon Ah ok thanks, do they decide on approach or do they plan to use that setting before take-off?

  • Wath is the AP?

  • @pilote909 Automatic Pilot

  • So you can fly the cargo planes as well? This is KLM Cargo, correct?

  • AlmatyViews - App Store

  • Were you nervous under such condition, suredT?

  • Why are they driving on cotton?.

  • Comment removed

  • 14 people can land fully manually using their 6th sense instead of ILS or Autopilot when cloudy condition.

  • whats that means 3 autopilot...

  • One of my favourites for sure. Thanks for making it.

  • kazakistan selam from turkey ;) is good video ...

  • ALMATY-MY LOVE

  • " E X C E L E N T E ".

  • Hats off to the electronics gurus who invented Automatic Pilots, ILS And all the other systems that make for an easier and safer landing in crappy conditions,

  • As a KLM 747 pilot, do you fly both PAX and the freighter?

  • great flying thank you

  • man u've got the illest job on earth....I've got a lot of respect for you Pilots

  • it was good videoooooo

  • tha't was auto land

  • I hope my question makes sense, but is there a max angle you should intercept the localizer? Also, right before 100ft, the auto pilot is turned off. Does that mean Land 3 is turned of aswell?

  • You are the captain, correct?

  • Where is the God Damn Airport ??

  • @invibaidi its Kazakhstan for fks sake..

  • @invibaidi It has a 13,000+ Ft. long runway and the airport is a ways off to the left of the screen. It's a smallish international airport, but needs the massive runway for cargo aircraft that have high MTOWs.

  • I like this vid

  • I love the video

  • I think I like this video more than any other. As a passenger, its great to know how many systems the crew has at their disposal to make a safe landing, even in poor visibility conditions. Excellent video. Keep them coming, Captain. Thank you.

  • Amazing!

  • Is everyone visiting Borat?

  • Thank you. Just like being in the cockpit for me with all the info. you provided.

  • Why does KLM schedule such heavy equipment into a hellhole like that?

  • @alienhuman

Guess what they even have a TV and a gaming set in front of every seat. So not a hellhole. ;)

  • @tim8ska Sorry you misunderstood me. I was referring to Kazakhstan as the hellhole :)

  • @alienhuman

    Fuckin bustard

  • @yertim17 How rude!

  • @alienhuman Wonder why so much hate? And I did not misunderstood you, I got what you are referring to...

  • @alienhuman

Hellhole is in fuckin ass u silly fagot

  • @yertim17 Теперь я вижу проблемы ... Я оскорбил свою Родину. Не волнуйтесь. Вы можете заниматься сексом со всеми коз в вашей стране ... Мне все равно.LOL

  • excelent

  • At 2:30 there's some vibration and it sounds like some drag, is that when the landing gear went down?

  • @SuperEd311 You are correct sir.

  • Absolutely awesome! Aviation technology is amazing! I'd love to be able to do that!

  • suredt u are a dutch pilot?

  • You should have stayed up there, much better weather.

  • 14 people were drunk when watching this

  • as a regular passenger on KLM to Almaty...very cool. make me feel safe

  • is it just me or you?you are to high............maybe, and you said that the best FAS is 155 kts, why you approach with 162 kts?

  • @wisnu1231 well, do u think u know more than a 747-400 captain? I'd like to see ur credentials.

They did an ILS approach with all three autopilots guiding the plane until they manually touched it down when they had the runway on visual. That means the ILS tracked the predetermined glideslope which is the perfect descent angle to the runway; so it's very unlikely they would be too high.

As for the FAS; it depends on the landing weight; the exact weight was even in the video.

    I think it's you.

  • i don't know that KLM has a route to Kazakhstan,lol

  • When you need to fly an approach through clouds, does the plane automatically arm flare/rollout? Or is there a button for approach hold only?

  • awesome, as usuall

  • What does is mean, right before about 100 ft, when the computer says "minimums" ?

  • @mrhoffame it means that if you don't see anyhing at minimums, you have to go for a go around :)

  • @Julman75 "Don't see anything"... you mean no visual of the runway?

  • @mrhoffame yes exactly

  • @Julman75 Gotcha! Thanks a lot. Sounds like you might be a pilot. If so I have another question. In overall flight with good weather and not a lot of clouds and fog...What overall percentage of the flight would you say is done visually. ie, adjustments based strictly off what the pilot sees out the window?. What percentage during landing?

  • @mrhoffame Unfortunately i'm not a pilot! Not yet though so I can't answer that but if anyone reads your question, I'd be curious to know the answer :)

  • Really nice video. No music..Thank god..I like the comments you put in the video to make it really informative. Thanks for posting

  • At the beginning you are saying: 747-400ERF. I know what the ER means: Extra range, but what about the F?. you mean freighter?. so Klm cargo?. Great landing!

  • What was the flying time between Amsterdam and Almaty?

  • @Ahuntsicspotter It's About 7,5 Hours...

  • Superb.

Thank you! Take care and God Bless.

  • I hope you´ll do similar video in HD :)

  • My question...who would WANT to go to Almaty? Just kidding...Nice video...kind of exciting...

  • Another video with landing exactly in Almaty aeroport...

  • Great video!

Want full video. Can you make another one?!plz!

  • hey really nice view (two questions:when V1-VR-V2 is announced? and when navigation lights should be turned on?)pllllzzzzzzzz telllllllllllll

  • @SuredT If I land with tailwind, I should add a bit more speed?

For example if land with 570lbs weight and 5knots tailwind, I should add to 146kt (for flaps 30) 5knots?

    If the wind is calm.

The pilots take speed from table simply or they add to this speed several knots reserve?

In what way real pilots of B744 assign approach speed?

  • great video

  • oh ok coool hey do u have a facebook u can add me on here and youtube as well happy flying and godbless Kim

  • i was hoping you got one of those suction cup holders to hold yer camcorder in so it wont fall off the plane dashboard they work very well alot of stormchasers use them

  • @TheKimTwister. In the mean time I have one. See my latest video's.

  • @SuredT you latest video's what?

  • WOWW SUREDT great landing please fly over sw pennsylvania KPIT AIRPORT

  • Amazing what VOR's & ILS's can do with no visibility... That was a very exciting video, and I especially enjoyed the captions on the events.

Good Work, 747s were never a very easy treat.

  • whats the different of a 747 400 and 747 400erf ?

  • On a Cat II approach u go down to 100 feet above touchdown. This means if the touchdown elevation is 640 feet then ur go around point is 740 feet. On a Cat III approach u can go down to 50 feet above touchdown elevation. Cat III is actually broken down into 3 subcatagories, but Im not going to go into those on here. Google ILS categories and u can read into them further.

  • Someone asked when do u go around. The guy replied "when the touchdown would take place after the last touchdown zone markers" ......well that is INCORRECT. On an ILS approach u slowly decend on the glideslope. U follow the glideslope down to a point that is generally 200feet above the touchdown zone (on cat I approach). This 200 feet height above touchdown is ur go around spot. If u dont have a visual on the landing lights when u are 200 feet above the runway then u go around.

  • Hello, what is "locolizer"?

  • Is Almaty a big destination route for KLM?

  • Cool Video

  • Hey nice vid,

when you manually land the plane do you disconnect the auto throttle or do you leave it on?

  • @averredude101 You have to disconnect it if doing visual app, when doing ils landing lets say cat 3 when visibility is impossible and the airplane can auto land and it retard the throttle by themselves but is optional... Most pilots disconnect it when they have in visual with the runway.

  • @Kpj7466 yeah when its CAT 3 they do auto land so they don`t disconnect thats what I know. So when they do a manual landing they disconnect the auto throttle

  • Very smooth landing with a nice long flare. Good job !

  • thank you so much for the awesome video and commentary. also you are amazing for taking time to answer everyone's questions. i'm definitely learning a lot from all of your videos.

  • What is the flare ?

I don't speak english very well so I can't understand...

  • @vivele77 Raising the nose when landing a aircraft we call it flare...

  • PERFECT LANDING AND VERY GOOD VIDEO

  • I thought the ocean was frozen!!!

  • Thanks for sharing. When I was a flight crew mechanic on un001 (747-200SP) in 1994 we would have landed in Aktyubinsk with that weather, KLM and Lufthansa were the only way out of Almaty at that time. Keep up the good work!

  • Wow, I'm 13 hoping to become a commercial pilot. I've never seen or been in a landing like this. xD

  • there is no PAPI light in this airport???i cannot find it.....

  • @SuredT how did u become a pilot and was the 747-400 your first type rating ?

  • nice

    very nice

  • Fantastic. I heard that most pilots find the autoland puts you down pretty roughly so they (you) usually prefer to land manually. When I made a comment like that on another YouTube video, someone said the autoland is rough because it doesn't do a flare - but I see from your comments during the video here that the autoland definitely does do the flare as part of the landing. Is this maybe only for the 747 autoland?? Do you find the autoland is rougher than manual - a good manual, that is :)

  • @deino117. Normally an autoland on the 747-400 is very smooth and yes the autopilot does flare the aircraft, so your other source of information is wrong.

  • @SuredT

I was told by a 747 F/O that autolands tend to be quite rough so they get enough grip... He said, and I quote 'Autolands are never really smooth to asure good touchdown, nice greasers are flown manually'. He's an F/O for QANTAS by the way ;) Let me know what you think, I'm just a wannabe haha.

  • @SuredT Do you go into full idle or what I remember it being called "landing idle" at 100 feet? That is what I learned in a Gulfstream II simulator and I was wondering if it is the same for a 747? Also, do you fly cargo or passengers?

  • This is KLM Cargo

  • wow......cheers~~~~

  • Nice Landing

  • @TirianB It's only your opinion :)....we like to understand what we see :)

  • Great! I like this clip. BIG THANKS

  • 3:23 thats freking scary!!

4:50 mario "Game Over" sound :P

  • what airline

  • Its really awesome video, Nice commentary, it was a late touch down but awesome..... I rank 5 ***** :)

  • Here this requires navigation on the plane to carry out landing!

  • Comment removed

  • God i love that sound of planes, when it landed..that sound of thrust! ..you know the sound thats sounds like when a washing machine its full speed lol

  • have you ever had any UFO sightings?

  • @SidneyXda LOL hahahahaha!

  • @natofsx8 Whats so funny about that? many pilots have had UFO sightings.. just research it. They have to keep it hush hush..or they lose their jobs. Thanks to the government controlled media who want this topic to be ridiculed, dismissed and not taken seriously. I have seen four UFO's in the space of a year. Your not left with much logical options when you see a metallic disc above house! with plasma light all around it like a glow, then being chased out of the sky by black helicopters.

  • What always kills me about these things is that 100 years ago our ancestors were still riding horses and 35mph was considered ridiculous speed.

Beautiful landing. Things almost fly themselves. :)

  • Wow... Looks like a Sea of Cotton Candy. Very cool ! Never saw a flight from the cockpit.

  • Wow... Looks like a Sea of Cotton Candy.

  • noice is annoying, but flight rocks!

  • Isnt it scary when you are at such a low altitude and you re going through clouds? i would be afraid man!

  • Jij maakt de beste Vid's op Youtube

    5/5

    en ik aboneer meteen!

  • its like sailing on the clouds.....

  • Hey aren't you an airline pilot? Why are you flying a 747-400ERF. Are you a 747 pilot that fly different kind of 747s in passengers configuration and cargo configuration. That is quite cool

  • what a beautiful country kazakhstan!!!! great video btw!!

    Greetings from Uruguay :)

  • Wat doen piloten tijdens een hele lange vlucht, behalve alle meters in de gaten houden, de FMC, contact houden met ATC, etc?

  • so for a normal approach procedure is it Flaps 5 210kts reaching the IAF or turning base, then Flaps 10 and flap 10 speed before the glide slope is captured, then once it is alive gear down flap 20 and speed change and by 1500-2000 AGL flaps30 and Vref+5 speed or FAS is set

  • very nice landing.

  • One of the most relaxing things I've ever seen.

  • Great videos, I'm so subscribing your channel!

By the way, are you doing both freighter and passenger flights? Just wondering, I thought these were separated divisions in one airline (not only yours but all airlines offering both passenger and freighter services), with different work contracts and different salaries and stuff.

  • This is so cool

  • Hey SuredT,luv your videos. If you dont mind, Can you take the video all the way until you park it at the gate?I want to be a pilot when I grow up. By the way, Which airline do you work for?

  • Thanks SuredT, V.Nice Vdo

  • Wow, those clouds are pretty low.

  • Beautiful video!! Thanks again SuredT. As a passenger, i am sometimes scared when the aircraft breaks through the bottom of the clouds and we are only a few hundred meters above ground!!

  • Hi SuredT. Just out of curiosity - does KLM arrange regular flights with 747 to Almaty? I check KLM website and what I could see was that A330 or E190 are serving on this route.

  • @basic111 This one was a 747-400 ERF... it was a freighter flight.

  • спасибо, никогда не видел Алматы с кабины пилота...
