First you need to learn what PPS is...Potential Picking Speed...take 1 note and tremolo pick it as fast as you can, with no mistakes, and your arm comfortable as possible...that will be your PPS...over time, your PPS will increase and therefore you can move on up to faster speeds...

Correct me if I'm wrong, those who know otherwise, but I think the last riff he did was for a black metal song on the Roadrunner United album a few years back. It was a cd in which a bunch of artists that have been or currently are signed to Roadrunner Records compiled 18 new tracks for a cd celebrating Roadrunner's 25th anniversary. That riff sounded like the one he did for Dawn of a Golden Age. Look it up. :D

Actually, yeah, Matt did write it. For the Roadrunner album 4 band members signed to Roadrunner Records were chosen to produce the album, and then more band members were chosen to make the music. The producers were Joey Jordison (SlipKnoT), Rob Flynn (Machine Head), Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory, now in Divine Heresy & Aesino), and Matt Heafy of Trivium. Matt produced Dawn of a Golden Age and actually called Corey in cause Corey had said he'd always wanted to do a black metal song.
