You wouldn't want to meet one of the Viking "Berserker". Tim Newkark in his book The Barbarians describes them:
"Wearing no armor, clad in bear fur...these terrifying warriors rushed into battle mowing down everyone before them. They had no fear, for their rage of bloodlust overcame the pain of their wounds. Howling like wolves, they bit their shields, and when their weapons were shattered through frenzied blows, they tore their enemies apart with bare hands in a fury of animal strength.
Ridiculous depiction of the Vikings, totally ahistorical and very, very biased. Based on this depiction it is pretty clear that they have accepted the accounts written by the defeated without any reservations what so ever.
@delavalmilker They have found winged helmets in the Balkans & the iron age Gauls had horned helmets - but the traditional idea of the English-Scandinavian & Viking look was as you said a 19th century invention - The intention was I think to give actors a generic Heroic Indo-European look for the audience in Wagners operas - I don't thing it should be judged as cheating the audience of historical detail but it was the best attempt at the time.
@delavalmilker Excellent comment - continued - - since the Gotland & Sutton hoo finds had not been known - as is most common in history there is a sense of true even through the mist of time - the 19th century idea of a Nordic-Celtic pre-classical Eurasian civilization that became both Western Civilization & had a big impact on Pathia China & India - has been born out by DNA & archeological finds in ruined cities in China & the North West Chinese finds of European Mummified folk.
@stud20084977 actually it is right the viking you think of as not so bad were more far into the medieval time but the ones who came to north america and brittain were savages the native americans were slaughterd and so were brittish every man woman and child like they said they killed most who could not defend themself
@XxModernDayRaiderxX We have archaeological evidence and we have the few surviving viking sources to heavily contradict this picture. Vikings were first and foremost traders, but when the oppurtunity arose they did not neglect to plunder wealthy unprotected targets. But there are no evidence of extreme brutality in other sources than the extremely biased once that we have from their enemies, that had absolutely no qualms about painting the viking in a horrifyingly brutal ...
@XxModernDayRaiderxX ..... picture, even if it had no basis in reality, just because they felt so powerless and angry towards these outsiders, that the only explanation for their appearance and disruptive nature was that they were the scourge of god. And hence the grim depiction.
hmmmm notice their are none of the usual racist scum on here decrying what the vikings did. oh, but you see, their destruction was blessed and good for europe, since they were white!! lol you people are pathetic.
Bone-less = Ben-lös. Ben having a double meaning in swedish: bone and leg. Legless is the correct translation, he lost at least one leg in some battle.
@Kinjamaimai I saw a history with the subtitles translation in Swedish on the subject of one of Caesar's campaignes - they where talking about where Caesar beguiled or lied - in the subtitle that word came up as loki - the name of the English & Scandinavian anti-God loki (the trickster) he was as you probably know the arch enemy of the pantheon of the Good English & Nordic Gods like Thor - so is the word loki still the Swedish verb to lie?
@Kinjamaimai Thanks - I must of been wrong about the specific Scandinavian or lowland language - i will look further into this. Thank you for letting me know - Swedish is a language I would like to learn.
One of the biggest secrets up to now is that it was never the kings, the dictators, the parlament... that rules, but the priesthood, wizards, witches, Ayatollahs... very enlightent people, that rule because their ability to harm others in ways people don´t know about or shut up about them.
@darthspliffius wow.. what is WITH you weird people going on about "religion" like it's something separate from humans. If you had paid attention at all, you would see groups of invading humans caused these problems. Even if there was no religion, they would have become weird and twisted over something else.
Religion is just something humans use against or for humans. Stop mystifying it lol
Actually, there were two very large churches with the name of Saint Peter's Basilica, the original was built by Constantine the Great, then during the Renaissance it was torn down to make room for an even bigger one. The second basilica is the one we see today, but not the one that was used to crown Charlemagne.
How can they call themselves "History Channel"? Don´t they know that in Charlemagne´s time there was no Saint Peter Basilic, which would be built eight centuries after?
@farmerne The Teaching Company offers lectures on the Middle-Ages, including Early, High, and Late periods by Philip Daileader, and he's just awesome.
@Re5Publica Yes--I actually got the series "The Early Middle Ages" from The Teaching Company. He's one of the best, and I highly recommend these excellent courses.
I also like it where he says that midieval knights "had more in common with Tony Soprano than Sir Lancelot".
The history Channel.....You'd think that if they actually knew that much about history, they would know that Vikings had blond or red hair, blue eyes. Braided combed hair (They actually looked cleaner than most people) Neatly sown cloths, (The Nordic women were very skilled). Not weird people that look like they have no hygiene, or any skill at all in cloth or armour making. Stupid history channel, not to mention the 2012 commercial LOL.

lol the Vikings were not more savage than Christians and Muslims, they were just unable to revise their history unlike say the Christian-right and Islamofascists.

@treetrain ..."I suspect that people develope deep-seeded negative views toward God based on how they have been treated. @Martinroot I should have left a post script after that definition i left there. that wasn't my point of putting thej definition up, it was just to show what is considered their definition. I think the barabarians did what they had to do, like someone else pointed out, it's all about self happiness, and with that comes group happiness, and the barbarians needed shelter and food, but also sought as much as they coudl grab, which portrayed them as savage.
@Martinroot no just most voilents. they were civilized, but not when they were at war. they loved there wives, dranked much beer. especially after they won battles. they party with there friends and threated each other good. only when they were at war they was uncivilized
"the wrath of satan is unleashed upon the house of god..." "they paid the wrath of satan with protection money..." AHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA well I gotta go change my pants cuz I laughed so hard I pissed in them. XD
"Giant setback for mankind?" Come on, Europe was not whole mankind. I'm European, and I respect my culture (not the bad stuff). But these statements are ridiculous! There were other civilizations too, and newly emerging powers in Eastern Europe too. Soon to be Kievan Rus, Poland, etc!
@Lachausis there are many many idiots on youtube comment boards- be careful you dont make yourself one of them-education and a non religious, non racist sense of humanity is one way to avoid this- I strongly recommend it if you dont want to look like an ingnorant bigoted fucktard!
@ItchyBirdDmb Non racist? Whenever I hear this, I imagine muslim immigrants in Europe protesting for some minor shit (like Christmas trees in London), and crying for their rights to vegetate, and other "rights" (which Europeans don't have) and then I realize - I rather be a fucking racist that a stupid fool who believes in bullshit other countries don't respect. My well being is too precious to let liberal radicals destroy it with their globalization and multicultural crap.
These Dark ages is why Christianity needed to be abolished and eliminated from society hundreds of years ago. It casued so much suffering and death of millions and millions of people throughout history and is the main reason why most wars broke out. People are following a religion today with very brutally savage roots and they don't even realize it.
@Lachausis does it really matter who started what?? theyre all people-the innocents on both sides are the ones who suffrered- this goes throughout history- so does it really matter?
@sjolinpeter just like a non believer you just continually spit rhetoric nothing up to date to quail any of my wild theory's....its laughable actually cause your going to find out weather you like it or not
@mr44doom as usually you don't bring any arguments and certainly any kind of scientific knowledge. Therefore there will be no reason to comment your inferior judgmental and decadent comments.
If you don't consider different approaches to issues and only can make references to the bible then you are no more worth than monkey. In other words, you more dumb than a monkey.
@MrDePinna You had to die with honor (typically at the battlefield) and then you could be selected by Odin to go to Valhalla. Note there is no such concept as heaven in the Norse religion; however there is a concept dealing with hell.
@MrDePinna If they died in combat, the Valkyries would come for them and take them to Valhalla where they would drink alcool and fight all day waiting for the end of the world, the ragnarok where they would fight against the forces of evil by Odin's side. If they didn't die in combat, they would go to hella's realm, the viking's hell where they would be undead and forced to fight on the side of evil at Ragnarok, invading the world on a ship made of their nails with Loki as their captain.
Ha! What a narrow minded view of the Vikings. They where more civilized and more technically advanced than most of the Christian countries. They had more sophisticated trade routes and more and better exploration.
@mr44doom The Vikings were not satanists. They worshiped the Norse religion. The Christian armies did also slaughter women and children. Does that make them satanist also?
@sjolinpeter like i said you dont have to literally say i worship satan to worship satan...as long as you worship anything other than the God oF Israel then you are in fact worshipping Lucifer who has many names such as shiva, isis, horus, seb, zeus, buddaha, krishna, attis, mary(catholics) etc....for your info non of those ''christian armies' such as the templars were christian...they worshiped baphomet who is also lucifer....i wouldnt say it if i wasnt for sure bro
@mr44doom You can't call people, who had never heard of Christianity at that point of history, Satan worshipers. The Northerners were literally people of earth. Their religion originated basically from way of life, nature and environment that surrounded them. If God gives us the nature, then they used it to seek deities, although wrong. The reason they can be considered evil is because of their lack of mercy for others beings, which reechoed in their religion.
@hickboy360 and how exactly u gona manage that big fucking mouth , i bet your mouth is as big as your feet , so it will fit my big fucking dick u fagot. Go fuck yourself you tube warrior .....pff...... yeah all talk from behind your desktop ha ha ha . if i could get my hands on you, i would assure u u will not last a minute dick head i am a black belt in quan ki do fucker look it up if don't know what it means
@ELMOcall911 Rome still wins? LOL Rome got sacked so bad so repeatedly no one wanted to live in that shit hole for ages, when the dust finally settled Rome was mainly immigrants, lmao.
@mookixox actually he is right.....rome controls the whole world till this day.....the vatican will lead the world in the days to come jus try to stay alive to be around it will come from behind the curtains soon enough
@mr44doom Rome was a civilization, the Vatican is the priesthood that is controlling everything, Rome was sacked to shit eons ago, while the church (Vatican) thrived outside of Rome so there is a difference and yes the Vatican is Lucifer worshippers I agree on that.
@mookixox no my friend go check the facts the vatican is more than a satanic priesthood its legally considered a private state with the pope as its prime minister.....this is how the power will be given to the beast to control all nations....want to bet?
Maybe he was really limber......like a supple Viking contortionist.

holy shit! how much darker can europe get? it seems every other new thing they talk about has to do with europe getting darker and darker! lol
leebone98 1 year ago 3
"Giant setback for mankind?" Come on, Europe was not whole mankind. I'm European, and I respect my culture (not the bad stuff). But these statements are ridiculous! There were other civilizations too, and newly emerging powers in Eastern Europe too. Soon to be Kievan Rus, Poland, etc!

@Lachausis there are many many idiots on youtube comment boards- be careful you dont make yourself one of them-education and a non religious, non racist sense of humanity is one way to avoid this- I strongly recommend it if you dont want to look like an ingnorant bigoted fucktard!
ItchyBirdDmb 1 year ago

People are following a religion today with very brutally savage roots and they don't even realize it.
pucksterz12 1 year ago
@pucksterz12 No,it's not Christianity that did this,it was just simply white people always wanting to rule lands.

@pucksterz12 Hey! Who started it first? The Arabs of course. Franks learned from Muslims.
Lachausis 1 year ago
@Lachausis does it really matter who started what?? theyre all people-the innocents on both sides are the ones who suffrered- this goes throughout history- so does it really matter?

Vikings I think believed that if they died in war they would go to heaven but if they didn't die in war they wouldn't.

@sjolinpeter just like a non believer you just continually spit rhetoric nothing up to date to quail any of my wild theory's....its laughable actually cause your going to find out weather you like it or not
mr44doom 1 year ago
@mr44doom That is at best a sign of your lack of scientific knowledge.
sjolinpeter 1 year ago 2
@sjolinpeter ypur just dumb bro...when you have nothing to say you hurl an insult.....poor monkey
mr44doom 1 year ago
@mr44doom as usually you don't bring any arguments and certainly any kind of scientific knowledge. Therefore there will be no reason to comment your inferior judgmental and decadent comments.
If you don't consider different approaches to issues and only can make references to the bible then you are no more worth than monkey. In other words, you more dumb than a monkey.
So lucky me, I guess.

@MrDePinna You had to die with honor (typically at the battlefield) and then you could be selected by Odin to go to Valhalla. Note there is no such concept as heaven in the Norse religion; however there is a concept dealing with hell.
sjolinpeter 1 year ago
@MrDePinna If they died in combat, the Valkyries would come for them and take them to Valhalla where they would drink alcool and fight all day waiting for the end of the world, the ragnarok where they would fight against the forces of evil by Odin's side. If they didn't die in combat, they would go to hella's realm, the viking's hell where they would be undead and forced to fight on the side of evil at Ragnarok, invading the world on a ship made of their nails with Loki as their captain.

Ha! What a narrow minded view of the Vikings. They where more civilized and more technically advanced than most of the Christian countries. They had more sophisticated trade routes and more and better exploration.
sjolinpeter 1 year ago
@sjolinpeter they had civilization and advanced society at that time, but it was the hugering for battle that potrayed them that way
nikz200 1 year ago
@sjolinpeter so what they were still baby bashing satanist......so sad
mr44doom 1 year ago
@mr44doom The Vikings were not satanists. They worshiped the Norse religion. The Christian armies did also slaughter women and children. Does that make them satanist also?
sjolinpeter 1 year ago
@sjolinpeter like i said you dont have to literally say i worship satan to worship satan...as long as you worship anything other than the God oF Israel then you are in fact worshipping Lucifer who has many names such as shiva, isis, horus, seb, zeus, buddaha, krishna, attis, mary(catholics) etc....for your info non of those ''christian armies' such as the templars were christian...they worshiped baphomet who is also lucifer....i wouldnt say it if i wasnt for sure bro
mr44doom 1 year ago
@mr44doom You are indeed a christian fundamentalist. There is no need to debate with you.
sjolinpeter 1 year ago
@sjolinpeter you cant debate me...you'll get smoked....i have past present and future on my side not to mention the Word of God....
mr44doom 1 year ago
@mr44doom I like that you almost admit that you have narcissistic tendency and thereby got mental problems.
sjolinpeter 1 year ago
@mr44doom You can't call people, who had never heard of Christianity at that point of history, Satan worshipers. The Northerners were literally people of earth. Their religion originated basically from way of life, nature and environment that surrounded them. If God gives us the nature, then they used it to seek deities, although wrong. The reason they can be considered evil is because of their lack of mercy for others beings, which reechoed in their religion.
Lachausis 1 year ago
@sjolinpeter Trade routes you say? One day he makes a trade agreement with you, the other he kills you from behind, slaughters the whole village.

mr44doom 1 year ago
@mr44doom Rome was a civilization, the Vatican is the priesthood that is controlling everything, Rome was sacked to shit eons ago, while the church (Vatican) thrived outside of Rome so there is a difference and yes the Vatican is Lucifer worshippers I agree on that.
mookixox 1 year ago
@mookixox no my friend go check the facts the vatican is more than a satanic priesthood its legally considered a private state with the pope as its prime minister.....this is how the power will be given to the beast to control all nations....want to bet?
