  • Why weren't they ever huge? I mean what kept them from it?

  • Kings X for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On second thought RRHF is irrelevant. Kings X rocks.

  • Its simply criminal how these guys aren't up in the far reaches of the rock atmosphere with bands like AC/DC and Metallica. When you talk about music to anybody and mention the word 'Metallica' everybody knows them....even my bedridden grandma knows who Metallica are....and this should definitely be the same with King's X. They are without doubt the most underrated band out there considering how long they've been in the game, and they deserve so so SO much more. KING'S X FOREVER!!

  • LONG LIVE KING'S X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LONG LIVE KING'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i always thought Ear Candy sounded like an exhale following Dogman - sort of a wistful acceptance of the band's fate as opposed to the roiling angst and frustration of the album that preceded it. it's a beautiful record.

  • Let me say....I'm probably as much of a King's X fan as the next "fan"....but tell me this.

What the hell is so bad about writing a hit song? Hit songs make money. Hit songs reach a far greater audience. Hit songs are good!

It was obvious that Ear Candy was a passel of hits. Too bad it didn't go any further than it did. But again, what was/is so bad about it?

  • @steentompkins : i love that King's X "Ear Candy" album!..it's great! =0]

  • @steentompkins

Love all the albums, but Ear Candy is the Best! Even though they got pressure from Atlantic to make a single.

Good Stuff! Love Dogman and TapeHead and the rest. One of the Greatest Bands!

  • Ear Candy always sounded like a mess to me. Some good tunes but so disoriented and no cohesion. FHL is still my fave by a long shot. I miss the old sound. They were really special then because of the uniqueness. I think they've lost a lot of their identity since the first 4.

  • Ear Candy has many great songs, one of my favorites by the band. Huge contrast with Dogman, but then Dogman was a departure from the earlier sound. It's all really good. Thanks for this interview!

  • i love all of the faith, hope cd and the ear candy cd.....lost in germany, and pray are great songs.i was very disapointed with mr. bolbous..id like to see them open for u2 or black rebel motorcycle club or jesus and mary chain or starflyer 59 or gs megaphone

  • no way, ear candy has a great sound!! all the records are points in the universe and they are all wonderful!! thank you guys for making music!!

  • It's good to hear an interview with the band where the interviewer actually knows something about the entire King's X discography.

  • folks, they are the best rock band so far

    stop whining

there are many people and loads of musians recognizing this

ratings are for those who don't know what's good

  • I love those guys, man.

  • I have loved Kings X since Gretchen goes to Nebraska...Over My Head still rings in my ears.

  • @victoriakemp i got that when it 1st came out & i walk around singing it 2 this day!check out the dvd of live concert footage.

  • Just listened to the Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous album today. I appreciate it more and more over the years. I know that Earcandy (which is aptly named) was good, but SOOOO different then Dogman, then their earlier stuff, and then everything after it. Anyway, they rock.

  • funny about their downplay of EarCandy...it's one of my favorites...but then again I love Tapehead and that rarely gets any mention...

this is really the only band I can put on shuffle in my mp3 player and just listen and listen and listen (of course I don't have bulbous and manic moonlight on there) but I do have the last 2 albums as well as everything before...these guys are simply the best...

  • even so, Lookin for Love is a totally rockin song, well written, not formula - imo

  • For the record, "early days" of King's X featured songs like "King," "Shot of Love," and maybe the best KX song ever: "Far Away."

  • I love the early days of this band. Songs like Dogman and Black Flag among are really cool stand out songs. Plus they are gr8 musicans all three of them. King's X rule.

  • These guys are amazing. I saw them with Porcupine Tree and they kicked ass. Their most recent album, XV, is probably in their top 5. Doug may be almost 60, but you sure as hell wouldn't know that if you listened to that record. Fantastic.

  • @FirstAmongNerds Can't agree more! Love XV. I've kinda lost track of them after Dogman. First ran into them when they opened for Dream Theater on IMAW or Awake tour in 92-93-94??? Blew me away, along with DT of course. DT always tours with great bands. Introduced to Galactic Cowboys and Psychotic Waltz that way too. Everyone should give XV a listen.

  • I'm a big King's X fan and I have to say that Ear Candy is probably my least favorite, so I find it interesting to hear their comments about it. Which isn't to say that it's bad, because there's really no such thing as a bad King's X record, but if I had to rank them it would probably be last.

  • Man I'm so bummed to hear them kinda blast Ear Candy, it was such a great CD and I'm glad they've recently gotten back on track with some great music again.

  • I Love this band

  • Thank you so much for posting this interview. I've been a fan since '90. My only wish is that Ty would find his tone again, which he seems to have lost after switching to baritone guitars. Great band!

  • KINGS X!! :D been together for ages THANK GOD. Totally underrated band & musicians... Out of the Silent Planet, Gretchen Goes to Nebraska, Faith Hope Love, -ALL classics. And what a mammoth guitar tone! Figures every "record label" rejected them..The mind-controlled corporatist robots & their "bottom line" BS don't know passion & Truth when they hear it. No wonder what passes for mainstream "music" nowadays is mostly uninspired soulless SHIT..look at the spiritless, unfeeling garbage they sign..

  • bruce dickerson agrees.

  • I always thought Ear Candy was the truest King's X album. The lyrics are very personal... It's one of my favorites i guess the band doesn't like it though lol

  • i agree. i've loved it since i've heard it. it is quite different from everything else, though. i also love their self-titled, which many don't like...

  • @nexusofthecrisis same here, LOVED ear candy as soon as I heard it. Strange they're not fond of it. Ah well.

  • I love Ear Candy, hahah, along with all King's X, so good

  • Comment removed

  • i dig ear candy. w/e

  • Classiest band ever. Long live the Kings

  • Such gentleman! Gracious Pros! If only the Beatles and Floyd had gotten on this well!

  • Thanks for the interview Musician1. The best rock band around. It's a damn shame they don't often get the recognition they deserve. Awesome interview, thanks.

    Long live King's X!

  • Jerry Gaskill talks to much You mean TY NOT Gaskill. KINGSX RULES!!!!!!!!

Ck out Maudlin of the Well great band.

  • as usual Jerry Gaskill talks way too much

  • Great interview. Only wish it was longer. I love these guys!!!

  • Killer post, thanks. Always good to hear them talk a bit.

  • What a sad commentary on music that a band that has it all, great vocalists, harmonies, incredible musicianship, groove, hooks, blazing guitar solos, loyalty to each other and fans isn't a huge act. Like their credo "Go Tell Somebody" turn everyone you know onto King's X.

  • There is no reason that they aren't the biggest band on the planet. King's X #1 FO' LIFE

  • Someone once said to me: "kings x are the greatest band youve never heard of" and i couldnt agree more!

  • I agreeeeeee

I'm the only damn fan of King's X in Chile!

    Greetings from SouthAmerica!

  • @azron86 Couldn't agree more, I think their influence on 90's rock is still not fully appreciated mainly because the 90s was filled with a bunch of no talent hacks trying their best to sound like King's X and failing miserably. Although I find it funny that they associate themselves with grunge and I can't stand grunge (for obvious reason stated above) but totally love them.

  • I've studied music, I'm a musician. I studied about rock in every style you can imagine in the world (from british prog-folk-rock like Jethro Tull, grunge, power metal, to japanese ska-rock bands as Ore Ska Band, even reaggae! and everything where a distorted guitar is involved in...) and my conclusion after a couple of years of research was : KING'S X IS THE BEST F*CKIN' BAND OF ALL TIMEEEEEE!!!

(BTW sorry for my english. Greetings from SouthAmerica)

  • @AlanLeviYYZ not really

  • Great interview! Thanks for posting!
