I have never seen people so critical of one another as arborists . Its like half of you were born with sticks up your butt that the doctor refused to remove. now they are permanent.
I have been working on educational videos for arboriculture that I hope you may find useful in your training programs. search for Arborist Blair Glenn at YouTube and you will find me.
@Kolespace912 Can you please send me the formula that you use, include different size timbers diameter piece, at what length, weight, lean, scarf size, angles also how many rotation per metres in hight, will a tag line effect the rotation and what about if the ground slops. I'm looking forward to use your timber rotation methodology on my next tree job, what would be better, if you can post a youtube video on this action that you do very well every day, just a nice though.
This guy cuts too fast. He is either showing off or nervous. I can't tell. And I have to agree with the guy below, what techniques are new? Going fast, and yes I do understand the job because I am an arborist too.
@jordan3222002 .. if you think that guy is fast, its only because you are slow.. I don't mean to be critical, BUT it would be nice to see people like you give up the thought that just because you haven't seen it or done it before, there must be something wrong with it.. He was not hurrying, or rushing or showing off, he was just working efficiently, not wasting time, he had his system honed.. I think he could even go a little faster with less risks if he'd cut his top cut first on the notch...
Uh arborist techniques? Not only just a removal or huge pruning "in spurs" no technique newer than the 1960's. With all your boasting lets see something good eh?
dont understand the point of a vertical zipline on this vid..why not just block out normally? or is it to stop the blocks rolling away after they hit the ground ?
Ace, can you suggest somewhere to buy harnesses & boot spikes from in Aus please. No it's not for felling work... You guys can have that - I wish to live a while longer ;)
just wondering is this a training session because it seems like he could have just fallen that entire branch at once since there isnt anything below it anyhow ... as far as I can see
I'm in the OH&S game and have done a bit of mountaineering (badly) and climbing (not much better). It always impresses to see the combination of efficient tree work, and precise control over rope work and anchors. Very, very excellent camera work.
Why would you pay more for a saw thats heavier... Husky's are better balanced and weight for size are a much better saw in the tree with one exception, the 200T...
I've been trimming trees for 5 years now, but NEVER have I seen it done from heights like this. Nicely done. That's too scary for me. (Of course I don't use ropes either, unless I have no other way.)
@TheSib learn to use ropes ... all it takes is one slip from as low as 5 feet off the ground and you could easily lose an arm, or wind up peeing in a bag for the rest of your life. That's if you make it out alive of course!
#2 is a good question. I was cutting down an overgrown hedge years ago, my saw binded, the chain flew off and scraped my knuckle. I just sat there for probably 30 seconds thinking of how lucky I was. Just another eight of an inch of slack in that chain and it would have severed my tendon.
Sounds like you got lucky bud! I wear gloves even still. But yeah I'm going to get spikes and ropes soon and start doing free tree removal to get experience and then hopefully add it to my business services.
Sounds like a plan. I live on 8 acres in a major city, and I've been selling wood for $320 a cord. I am seriously considering gearing up myself and doing the easy jobs for next to nothing.
I think that tree might be slightly dead. I can tell by the 3 tons of saw dust on his cuts. Any way been there done that 1000's of times. Great video!
man cuts wood. wood falls. Ace, you make some great vids, this has a cool camera angle, but lacks much substance. Second cut took over 40 seconds. I could cut it under 15, that's a secret for now! seconds adds up over the course of a day. Looks like he's climbing on a tautline or a blakes. advanced friction hitch with slack tending micro-pulley will save time too. all the little things do really add up to make a big difference in productivity over the course of a day/week/month/year/career..
it normally occurs when a step cut is used on a large piece of timber that is towards horizontal and the back cut is longer( and performed to quickly )than the front cut so when the wood snaps theres a layer of wood underneath the bar. bit of a waffle to sum up take your time speed isnt everything as the gentlemen above assumes thats when accidents happen.
you can reduce the risk of your saw being taken with the timber on step cuts, you put the step cut in below the first stepcut you made, instead of above, im not sure theres is any way on normal felling cuts, :P just unclip it quickly.
yea nice vid, fluent climbing. I pinched my 036 aerial once it ripped my saw clean in half, ended up with the handle and fuel tank on my strop and the bar and engine on the ground, and me unhurt. Scary day! lol
Great job your a good climber!...but as a fellow tree climber one thing id never do is use a rope lanyard to my chainsaw...if you ever get pinched its a good way 2 get ripped off a tree if the piece breaks off. Saw may cost $700 but broken bones or worse not worth it.. Stay safe out there!!
@Busabull18 yeah for real ive been pulled 40 feet down a 80 foot stob before my bar bent to a right angle and released the butt of a 20 foot log, you do the map.
because it sounds daft i no but it is easier cutting from the tree than the bucket because you can position things alot easier like where you want the log to land
you can stand in the trees by climbing spikes attached to your feet and then he is attached by his strop in front of him which he can lean back on and dig his feet into the tree :) hope this helped
at the end of the video climber saftied in twice with the tail of his safety? Climber made great time, I've never seen so much fine particulate dust, Cough cough, is my rope burning, no thats saw dust.
well i'm just an apprentice but in my opinion your climber knows his shit , check out our clips type in CLC tree services ... it was a crane removal we do alot of them ... but i have to say what a great job to have eh guys getting payed to climb trees ,,,, well stay safe guys
nice job I used to climb for 3 years and I had my fair share of terrifying moments. Being roped to the bucket would have been a good piece of mind for those rotten ones. GREAT JOB
well done, as a fellow arb that was very good not that you need my say that you are but vary well done. no messin about whith your undercuts fast and cleen you can be on my gang any day, as "trty5" sead stay safe boys
nice job, undercuts were a waste of time IMO, in this instance, get just as clean a drop with a drop cut and not fucking around with an undercut when theLZ is good to go. Dont get me wrong, it is a small point, and a personal one more than anything, but vids are posted, you got expect a bit of critiquing, for the most AceTree looks like a crak outfit, stay safe boys.

5 stars like normal Ace, I have some questions maybe you could answer or some of the viewers.
1. Is the second set of ropes coming from the camera man an extra safety line or a line for letting down timber?
2. Why do 99% of tree feelers never wear gloves? I figure there must be a reason?
3. Is the camera man in a tree or a bucket lift? If so why not cut from the bucket?
Thanks in advance.
=)
