i doubt the remake will be better. Its supposed to be done by "Larry Clark," which i think the guy would ruin it. I like his movies but personally i think he involves TOO MUCH sexuality. Which is most likely what he is going to add to this film. WAY more nudity and sex scenes. wait and see.

Bob Hoskins in this movie is probably one of the biggest Oscar crimes EVER! How can you win the Golden Globe, the BAFTA, all of the critics awards and not win the Oscar? That is ridiculous.

but in 1986 paul newman was given the oscar entirely out of sympathy because he had been nominated so many times before and had never won.

i think most people can agree that overall paul newman is a better actor then bob hoskins,

but paul is dead now and it would have been even more ridiculous if he had died without ever receiving an oscar.

in 2004 every single award for supp actor went to clive owen for 'closer' but because M freeman hadnt won before HE got the oscar:(

@ev11 well bob is getting older too and he certainly deserves an oscar too... bob in general is a great and versatile actor. he deserves more fame than what he is getting now. i really do hope they would give mr hoskins a role that is truly worthy of an oscar instead of just a career or sympathy award that would be a real shame of his talent. he may not be the hollywood cookie cutter for a male movie star sort but he has his own charm and sex appeal that really makes him unique.

Anyway, I remember seeing this years ago and being floored by it. Hoskins is a great actor. I really liked him in the romcom Mermaids with Cher.
