@tinkerbell1984arw just make sure you read up on the "duty of retreat" clause in your states use of deadly force law if in fact your state does have such a clause. People have actually gone to prison for defending themselves with deadly force because they didn't make an attempt to "get away" before defending themselves. And when the police get there make sure you swear up and down that you feared for your life. Oh, and make sure you kill the intruder. That way there's only one story.

But the idea that any "law abiding" citizen, has the right, regardless of their knowledge of firearms safety, to conceal and carry in public, is not something I subscribe to. When asked what their biggest fear is when committing a crime, it wasn't a dog, or a policeman....it was facing an armed victim. Criminals are cowards, and they seek easy pickings. While I understand that not EVERYONE should be allowed to carry a gun, there should be NO law that keeps a sane, lawful adult from owning one. There are hundreds of thousands of cases every year where a gun was used to deter a crime WITHOUT a shot being fired. That FAR outweighs the number of accidental deaths, as well as homocides that are committed each year with firearms in this country. Funny that politicians want your guns, but stand behind armed secret service men when they speak.

Two years ago, my wife and I had an incident at a movie theatre where a young man apparently took exception to my telling him to please be quiet after several minutes of his profanity-laced commentary. He and a few of his friends followed us out to the parking lot. Whether they wanted to jump me or simply intimidate me, I have no clue.
I do know that they had a change of heart once I retrieved a .45 that I keep in my glovebox. Peaceful resolution.

@tinkerbell1984arw just make sure you read up on the "duty of retreat" clause in your states use of deadly force law if in fact your state does have such a clause. People have actually gone to prison for defending themselves with deadly force because they didn't make an attempt to "get away" before defending themselves. And when the police get there make sure you swear up and down that you feared for your life. Oh, and make sure you kill the intruder. That way there's only one story.

I'm a member of the NRA. I own guns. I am a believer in the idea that a man or woman's house is their castle. But the idea that any "law abiding" citizen, has the right, regardless of their knowledge of firearms safety, to conceal and carry in public, is not something I subscribe to. Carrying a loaded gun is a major responsibility and there are millions of irresponsible "law abiding" citizens in this country.

I would need to see proof of holstered guns being 'very effective at curbing crime" before I could agree with that.A visible weapon may deter some criminal acts, but a criminal could just find an easier target, or possibly just shoot the armed person to get rid of the threat. A desperate person intent on a robbery isn't gonna just give up and go home. And you must have more faith in the intelligence, rationality, and responsibility of the general public than I do. Criminals are opportunistic parasites, and in the vast majority of cases, a criminal will tuck tail and run at the presentation of a firearm, because it is simply not worth the risk; as there are other more vulnerable targets elsewhere. A desperate criminal isn't going to give up and go home, he's going to go across the street to the unarmed liberal's house, and take their shit.

Thing is you can be confronted by the meanest, sickest, bad ass mofo criminal of all time and shoot him dead but in a court of law , and if there are no other witnesses to back you up, the law just sees the facts , you shot a guy and it's then up to you to prove his intent, like I said he's dead and you're arse is in jail . hi, this can go so many ways. there are pros and cons to both sides of the arguement, but just remember the one similarity between you both sides, no one wants anyone victimized/ killed. just remember that before you folks take the gloves off because that's what these bottom-feeding politicians feed on.
my opinion personally is I am for having whatever gun in the home, but I'm a little worried for concealed carry..........continued........

concealed carrry can be both good and dangerous. good - in terms of you possibly BEING victimized then yeah, you have the option of defending yourself. bad - being the fact that in concealed carry, a law abiding citizen can walk into a bar, during a stressful time in his life, and just open fire on anyone he wants before someone finally pops him. that scenario may seem rare, but it can still happen. it's a double edge sword. (as you can tell I'm a centrist independent)

Here is an interesting point for you gun control fags. How many crimes are stopped at the mere display of a firearm? Without a shot fired? Hard to tell because after all, who reports a crime that didn't happen? All you gun control people please do me a favor. Put a big "GUN FREE ZONE" sign in your front yard. Bottomfeedar: By your logic, no one should use fire extinguishers because there are firemen. I have a firearm because I know that police officers can't just teleport to the scene of every crime. It would be unreasonable to expect that of law enforcement.
Therefore, I have a gun for the same reasons I have a spare tire in my car and have a fire extinguisher in my house. I don't want to be at the mercy of a murderer. That would be me not fulfilling my role as a father and a protector.

its actually a fact that in washington dc, when guns were banned, gun related crimes actually increased. why? because the criminals almost never get their guns the legal way that law abiding citizens do. The criminals are the ones who want there to be more gun control, that way they have the advantage over the house they break into

The legal system can only do so much. The police can not be every where all the time. So what is the legal law abiding citizen supposed to do when threatened with violence against their life or their loved ones lives. If you don't have the means to protect yourself then you and your loved ones will be one of the victims the police could not save.
