Dewycatt112 is an idiot, you dont need some expensive ass guitar to sound good. But since you do that just tells all of youtube you really cant play. Sorry man.
Well" listen here you insignificant one! I have been playing for 28 years and I KNOW MY SHIT! when it comes to to playing and TONE!. I"ve owned a few REAL Gibsons and know what Gibson knows,The better the wood and components, the better the tone!.all that crap you here from people that tone is from the player is BULLSHIT! @dewycatt2112 so if i gave a 57 goldtop to a 3 year old he'd be able to make the guitar talk? hmmm, i guess in 28 years you havent learned all that much my man. maybe you should start another hobby, like gardening or something else that doesn't require thought, because you are clearly retarded. and if evh makes such high quality guitars, why is the 1400 dollar wolfgang special made of basswood?
@dewycatt2112 and if your playing is so impressive, upload some videos. am i saying i'm a virtuoso? hell no, but hey man, you wanna talk the talk, then walk the walk
I wish you would stop useing that stupid epiphone for your demos. They sound like shit and are not a real Gibson.you are lacking BEEF" in the tone and it doesnt do this amp justice.Sounds thin and frail.I have the 100 watt AC head and it kills! hot rodded pyrotech tones and more with my so-cal charvel.my marshall pale in comparison to this amp and are now dust collectors.please use a real les paul and an delay in the loop and show what this amp can really do! thanks.
@dewycatt2112 you honestly dont seem to know anything about guitars. it doesnt take an expensive "real" gibson to get a good tone. It takes a good player... if you cant make a cheap japanese guitar sound good, and need a "real Gibson" to make your sound sound "good" you suck at playing. I've owned both. and i currently own a vintage les paul. but i know (cause i have actually taken the time to learn) that a good musician can make any instrument sound good. he does a damn good job on his reviews.
no, this video's sound sucks because nearly ALL of the guitar world's videos sound tinny. I don't know what their problem is, maybe the ppl at guitar world should hang out with the ppl from sound technicians world or something, lol.
@ j12eilliiot agreed! If you switch those speakers with Celestion Vintage 30's that amp would sound SO much better!!! I have the AC100CPH and use the 30's through a closed back / slant cabinet. The V-30's make the head chunky, smoother and much more even sounding than the "stock" speakers, which doesn't do the head justice at all!
Run this amp thru a cab with green backs or vintage 30's and it really becomes a versatile beast. This is one of the best sounding amps ever made run thru proper cab and set up right.
I bought one of these and it sounds good. I'ts nice clean. He has it dialed in all shitty. You can get way better sounds out of it. I like it a lot. You just gotta know what your doing and use a pedal with it if you don't like how it's fuzz sounds.
I thought it's just this video. Sounds like a coke can full of angry bees. I played on one of these at a local shop. Not the video. These are really quite horrid. Ear fatigue in a hurry. Overly compressed and sterile sounding on the clean channel, way too fuzzy wuzzy on the drive channel. I can see why these are now discontinued. They had a short run. From what I heard, they were somewhat unreliable, but can't verify never owning one.
i had the ac50...it does not sound like an ac30...i sold it and bought an ac30 handwired. the cleans on this amp sound like shit compared to a real vox. the high gain channel is way too over the top to use.
I found one of these used for about $500. I'm looking for something versatile. I owned a VT30 and it's clean channel didn't really stay very clean, and from what I know the typical AC amp clean settings are kind of dirty. is this thing capable of getting a good clean sound?
I've always hated your magazine ever since I realized you only published tabs for classic rock, metal, radio rock, and nu-metal. I realized this when I bought my first issue in high school in 2002. Thanks for publishing "Kitty" tabs, I'd eaten too much that day.
Why pump the bottom on this amp? It's has huge bottom-end, too much if you crank it like this, too boomy.
Plus it has a lot more character if you pump the mids. In this vid the amp sounds thin and weak. Paul uses way too much presence on the distortion aswell, sounds top boosted.
This amp is great for stoner-type sounds if you use it right, that's what I do. More midrange here as well... Paul damnit, you ruin this amps magic :)
@SirCorn Did you buy it new? If so, Vox is usually quick and efficient with warranty claims, and they are at the mercy of the consumer now, especially with all the new "poor man's" vox/marshall/fender/carr/hiwatt/mesa/etc models available for cheap, they really have to stand by their products more than ever before. I suggest (tempting as I KNOW IT IS) not opening it up yourself, and making them give you ehat you paid for. If you got it used, the dealer (or ebayer) owes you a repair.
I have the AC50CPH great sounding amp for blues and rock. They shouldn't have trieds to go for the heavy sound though, it sounds fine but It does clean, crunch and mild overdrive much better.
i bought a 1967 Vox Berkeley III, 4 ohm, Solid State head. Im looking to buy the v412bn cab, i want to know if there will be a problem with the ohmage and if im gonna get the most out of that cab with the vintage head. someone help?
the ac100 classic plus has been discontinued which is why the price is so low right now. Vox couldn't appeal to the right market with a high gain amp.
just bought this amp on a boxing day sale for $150.00. Think some nicer tubes would make it sound better, But HELL YES On the deal!
I agree it is more hardrock then metal.... my Randall sounds WAY better for metal then this amp. but then I like the scooped dimebag sound for my metal...
Im saving up for the AC100 head. I cant wait to get it! Any pedal sounds good with this amp. I go to my local music shop to play this about once a week lol.
Tom shut the fuck up with the "hardrock" the're many other heavy musicstyles you can play whit this thing i play punkrock and i played the amp and it sounds awsome
at like 3:09 he says "dial up the gain a little bit" and when he played it, it sounded so loose and high gain-ish. He is so into that one sound and he needs to show all the other features of the amp. Not many people like that loose gain sound where you can barely hear the notes over the distortion. Wow paul....
I think this amp has potential. With the right pedals I think this amp would be the shit. I'm definitely gonna have to try it out with my pedal board.
Terrible demo. This guy obviously loves his hard rock, because he focused the whole time on it. It's a one trick pony. The AC50, on the other hand, is not.
the ac100cph is weighs more because it has double the amount of tubes, though the 50 extra watts only realistically adds about 3db in volume. i dont know why they make a 100 watt model to be honest, its just 4 tubes to replace instead of 2.
If you wan't the AC-30 sound out of this head.. it's totally there, but remember that an AC30 (combo) is an open-back combo, so try an openback cab otherwise you won't get the AC30 tone out of this head's channel 1. Second thing is to set the mastervolume to at least 12 o'clock and use less channelvolume, also start with not to much gain and just listen to at which point it loses the articulation. There are more brands that work the same way, just try ...!!
AMS has a close out sale on these . I've heard these will be discontinued . I wanted to at least try one out , wich AMS gives 45 days . I liked the idea that the tubes are easy access and theres a plate that can be removed for biasing the amp . And also easy access to volume and tone knobs .
i won this amp .. trust me .. it has the best clean tone i have ever heard .. now .. it depends what musical background you come from .. but in general .. this was a bad demo ..
the guy has some great vids using a Vox AC 50 CP. A couple of them are long but be sure to listen to the entire lengths of his videos. Guarantee you that if you`re a true guitar player, you`ll like the sounds.
You`re so right. The guy is an awsome guitar player. I`ve got to hear him live and WOW!! He should be cutting albums now. I`d love to see him cut heads with people like Keeny wayne Sheepherder...lol I`d put my money on darin. His vids don`t do him justice even though the vids are awsome.
I'm thinking of getting this amp. sounds nice and trebley (I own a vox vt30 and my treble is usually up all the way :P). One question: will the 50watt head be able to get loud enough to gig with? I'm a little unclear as to how much a cabinet size affects the volume of a head
This is an all tube head. It's a whole different animal to your hybrid vt30. Whilst you may like to think you have a tube amp you just have a warm solid state. This amp will be loud enough to fill a stadium (well maybe an exaduration). Basically 50 tubes watts will sound like 200 solid state watts. Whilst i physically isn't any higher wattage the under and overtones created by the tubes make it seem louder and cut better. Cabinets only shift air and don't effect volume too much.
i've heard mixed things about the ac15, but i haven't tried it myself. they're kinda different beasts anyway. and i could use 50watts of headroom more than 15.
but that's just me, everyone's got their own thing goin on.
I hear yeah man. I'd opt for the AC30CC2 (I think it is) if anything. If you needed more watts you could get an extra cabinant for about $500. I've never played through a vox amp, but I've herd alot of good things.
Also because they were a limited product and aren't really being made or sold anymore (so I've heard) so what's left is being sold for a discount. Originally they were like 1200 bucks.
i use that cab in conjuntion with an orange412 cab with a 50w vintage modern marhsall to get a stoner rock/doom sound and i think it sounds great has plenty of bass and doesnt sound thin at all. cab is alot better quality than people think
Thin and fuzzy.Maybe with a better cab will it sound better but i know now why Musicians Friend is blowing 'em off at $549.Even at that price i'd go with a Bugera,or should i say take a chance with a Bugera...
Epiphone headstock. Definitely Epiphone. I really should try out some Vox amplifiers... Spending too much time with pedals these days. I like the sound of this one that's for sure.
Fave tone was the 2nd to last. Gotta have those mids coming through. Wasn't that impressed with the clean combo sim, but then I wouldnt be using a LP for that anyway.
I was able to try one of these on a gig and, it was freakin' weird. What happened was, I set the volume on 12:00 then i played my guitar. The sound was good . Very good indeed but when the band started playing, the amp sounds like i set the volume on 1. I really couldnt hear myself playing. It kinda like has a mind of it's own and whenever its my turn to show my playing skills to the people, it would lessen it's volume

x3vanG21x 2 years ago
I own this one and there are 2 things you should do to get a good articulation
- set the mastervolume at least half way, but better is on 2 o'clock, so use just less channelvolume.
- stay before 3 o'clock with the gain on both channels, stay (way) before 12 o'clock with the bass also on both channels.
Vox really gets it's articulated tone when 'use' the mastersection in stead of using the channelvolumes.
The way it is tested here is not a compliment for the skills of this fantastic amp

I'm thinking of getting this amp. sounds nice and trebley (I own a vox vt30 and my treble is usually up all the way :P). One question: will the 50watt head be able to get loud enough to gig with? I'm a little unclear as to how much a cabinet size affects the volume of a head
FarrellMusic 2 years ago
This is an all tube head. It's a whole different animal to your hybrid vt30. Whilst you may like to think you have a tube amp you just have a warm solid state. This amp will be loud enough to fill a stadium (well maybe an exaduration). Basically 50 tubes watts will sound like 200 solid state watts. Whilst i physically isn't any higher wattage the under and overtones created by the tubes make it seem louder and cut better. Cabinets only shift air and don't effect volume too much.

o yeah this head with a marshall 4x12 cab is awesome
johnguitar91 2 years ago
marshall or vox for punk rock

Great palying but his settings always sound SOOO harsh
Billdozr54 2 years ago
How loud would this amp get while retaining the desired sound? Would the ac100 make much of a difference?
apguitarguy401 2 years ago
haha why is there a bright switch...
gotta admit doesn't sound too bad as an amp for $550, but it's obviously not an ac30.
itsjonduhh 2 years ago
The AC15 is the same price as this amp($550) and I'd much rather have it, since it isn't mudded down by and extra gain channel.
joebrassmonkey 2 years ago
i've heard mixed things about the ac15, but i haven't tried it myself. they're kinda different beasts anyway. and i could use 50watts of headroom more than 15.
but that's just me, everyone's got their own thing goin on.
itsjonduhh 2 years ago
I hear yeah man. I'd opt for the AC30CC2 (I think it is) if anything. If you needed more watts you could get an extra cabinant for about $500. I've never played through a vox amp, but I've herd alot of good things.
joebrassmonkey 2 years ago
yeah, the bright switch is on the wrong channel. the classic channel sounds muddy unless the treble is past 3/4 of the way up.
purenectar 2 years ago
haha yeah the heavier channel is bright enough as is. oh well...

would anyone recommend this for punk rock
SpandyAndy87 2 years ago
great for punk
hotfudgemoney 2 years ago
The gain channel is o.k., but there is no way that has an A 30 sound. I'd rather go AC30, put a Wampler Cranked AC in front for the dirty sound.
myway43 2 years ago
How tall is the guy cause the guitar and amp look huge next to him.
tab1990 2 years ago
the amp would be pretty massive cos its the 412 cab. its 60cm wide and about 1.2 metres high
dilligaf1942 2 years ago
no where close to the ac 30
andreww817 2 years ago
Also because they were a limited product and aren't really being made or sold anymore (so I've heard) so what's left is being sold for a discount. Originally they were like 1200 bucks.
Andyrooten 2 years ago
What sort of cab should I get for the head. I have the 100 watt version but I've heard the vox cab isn't that great.
Andyrooten 2 years ago
your looking at just the head, its not a combo amp.
bigmasterman 2 years ago
EL34s for an AC30 sound?
watcher33 2 years ago
they use the 12ax7's for the ac sound....
minihendrix12 2 years ago
@ watcher 33, Yeah 12ax7's for top boost channel, but most have EL84's for power amp tubes.
davidarlette 2 years ago
is this amp worth getting?
hodowncorexxx 2 years ago
I love it.
Andyrooten 2 years ago
i use that cab in conjuntion with an orange412 cab with a 50w vintage modern marhsall to get a stoner rock/doom sound and i think it sounds great has plenty of bass and doesnt sound thin at all. cab is alot better quality than people think
bulldogfan17 2 years ago
Amps are made to be used with the most improbable combinations. I love it.
Bollehamsteren 2 years ago
is the vintage modern a good head...does it have a good amount of gain
johnguitar91 2 years ago
the amp is great, the cab is terrible, wharfedale speakers suck

belafarinrodisgod 2 years ago
Thin and fuzzy.Maybe with a better cab will it sound better but i know now why Musicians Friend is blowing 'em off at $549.Even at that price i'd go with a Bugera,or should i say take a chance with a Bugera...

Epiphone headstock. Definitely Epiphone. I really should try out some Vox amplifiers... Spending too much time with pedals these days. I like the sound of this one that's for sure.

One question how does he do the sound at 5:35, been trying but I cannot make it out =(
originalgena 2 years ago
He using pinch harmonics, if you look them up, you'll see they're not that hard to do.

Fave tone was the 2nd to last. Gotta have those mids coming through. Wasn't that impressed with the clean combo sim, but then I wouldnt be using a LP for that anyway.
seekah1 2 years ago
what guitar is that? a lp?
anyday82 2 years ago
i think its an epiphone les paul ultra II, not 100% tho
sodapopman5000 2 years ago
I was able to try one of these on a gig and, it was freakin' weird. What happened was, I set the volume on 12:00 then i played my guitar. The sound was good . Very good indeed but when the band started playing, the amp sounds like i set the volume on 1. I really couldnt hear myself playing. It kinda like has a mind of it's own and whenever its my turn to show my playing skills to the people, it would lessen it's volume
