  • There is a god because there is a Kamelot.

  • Like Roy said, "It turns out God was there after all." which were his last words to the press before leaving the band.

All of his songs sound like a religious person struggling to keep their faith strong. It really is biblical isn't it?

  • I'm always so intrigued by the incredibly reactionary stance that people have toward art that raises feelings and questions that have to do with religion.

The silence and "abandonment" of God that this song is a namesake for, cuts beneath the cries for "evidence" that we craft and condition (so that God must speak in the terms we have circumscribed).

Khan helps us feel out the human mortality we experience as the story of the Black Halo unfolds. This song=one of my favorite prayers set to music.

  • Roy Khan's voice is sublime. The band, his voice and their song-writing are a marriage resulting in supreme ecstasy.

  • This music, that cover, this entire album. I need to buy it so bad, sit on my shrine!

  • Im an atheist, and i think this song é beaultiful anyway... Its not about WHAT it says, but HOW it does =)

Stop meanless fighting, its just a song.

  • All this "God loves us all" stuff is very touching and all, but there are those of use he has clearly forgotten about. If he didn't forget about us, he is cruel beyond imagination. Either way, he and I are going to have a very serious conversation when I get my shot at him.

  • @lancasterdrummer I would pay to see that encounter

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7 I like the sarcasm. We need that every now and then.

  • Not religious myself, but I was thinking 'well if god killed all these people and did all these terrible things he'd kind of be contradicting himself in that killing them out of punishment is pretty much rewarding them w/ heaven, etc. since theyre dead' As far as the bible implies, any suffering pales in comparison to heaven/god. Just my 2 cents.

  • @onehundredandfourty4 Maybe he is just being merciful to them, allowing them to go to heaven and God didn't kill them, people did.

  • W/e you believe, if god was looking down, he will probably pissing his pants laughing at your semi-smartass wannabee know-alls.. You are nothing, dust to dust, dust you will become when you die, if there is something eternal out there, human beings are worthless in it's eyes. So know your place.

  • @NightwishMaiden In it's eyes, maybe, but not in God's. Like the scriptures say, "The worth of every soul is great in the eyes of God."

  • Such a melancholy and great...

  • buena rola

  • bien

  • why do people always have to fight? this song is so beautiful, how can you fight and contradict when you listen to this gorgeous song that makes you feel nothing but peace and tranquility...

  • This is a beautiful song. Listen to the cover, its even better!

    /watch?v=xGOphHbOx4c

  • @deadzen Nope.

  • hey If you don´t want to believe in God... DON´T BELIEVE.. I really don´t care.. but what problem do you have with people that do ?... stck to your own business.. you sound like the religious biggots you love to hate so much

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7 We love hating you guys because you get defensive so fast that it is comical, just grow up and accept the fact that you will be harrased until the end of time by us smartasses.

  • @GamerGuyPlus you´re right on that one !!!

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7 Not to mention that you are commenting on a song about loosing faith...

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7 Poor theists, so persecuted...

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7 Yeah, but they're hating the ones who don't mind their own business, the ones who set up stalls at fairs or go door-to-door or START BLOODY WARS over it.

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7 Besides, part of me does want to. I can't. I need evidence, and there is none whatsoever.

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7

I dont want to start a pointless and stupid internet fight... I understand your point and I respect it, every single one of us has the right to belive in Master Yoda if we want to... UNLESS that brings problems, suffering or pain to the rest of people... I know you dont, but... Havent all great wars been started by the same thought? "I DONT HURT ANYONE BY BELIVING IN GOD.... SO YOU SHOULD BELIVE TOO"... The problem is not with god.. but with people. Happy New Year, mate!

  • @ChavaPato man .. did STALIN OR MAO where believers in God??.. no .. my concern with that aproach.. is that people tend to think that is RELIGION that causes the problem.. it is not religion. the problem is that MAN has something wrong within.... thats why you can have an ATHEIST trying to take over the world too.... or a totalitarian goverment like north korea... are they christians now.. maybe they are and I didn´t know.. happy new year to you too(jaja kind of late mate )

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7 You know you are being a religious bigot for making this statement?

  • @1dew

Also, he didn't say anything about his own religion. All he is talking about people's right to think for themselves. He could be an Atheist himself. He is pretty wise too.

  • @AlejandroRasmussen7

Thank you. I don't believe in god. But that doesn't mean I don't respect other people's beliefs.

  • Love this song! Makes me happy

  • My god. Every time i listen to this song I want to cry. I don't care about if god is meant or someone other, I just can think about my own situation and how perfectly it fits.

  • Lool, why's everyone on here fighting about whether God is real or not? Doesn't matter right now, just listen to the song you immature idiots.

  • After 2 years of searching, I finally found the song.. God lead me to this

  • @DirtyMentosz Damn, God's a lazy fella, ain't he?

  • @HistoryOfHoles Okay, you realy made my day xDD

  • @DirtyMentosz god? or you? you found it by yourself.

  • Yay, religious flame war. For fuck's sake, people, have you not anything better to do than bitch about religion on the Internet?

  • excellent album, excellent history

  • excellent album, excellent history

  • Kamelot was very cool live. (Insert flaming internet comment to spike another debate about the existence/non-existence of someone's supreme deity)

  • I'll kill myself on this song

  • ice cold

    winter :)

    lovers voices

  • Exactly what Jesus asked while on the cross. But it can be taken literally... It's a question that goes further deep into the soul, as if not directly aimed at God Himself, but instead at the adversities of life.

  • why is everyone talking about god i have a personal way of relating to this song and it has nothing to do with God the way i see this song.

  • all these arguments about the band's religious beliefs!

ever you guys realized that this song is a part of a story, a concept album which is told in two parts (Epica and Black Halo). Their is a "God" and a "Devil" in the story. This is not about what the Kamelot members believe in... this song's a part of a concept album, they're only telling us a story...

  • @FatToti

    *slow clap and tears form*

    Well said sir. Well said.

  • this song is soooo amazing!!!

    I wanna cry

    :'}

  • great song i love it...

  • hey, god doesn't exist, but roy khan does, close enough so stfu everyone

  • Religions? They're religious? Heh, I never knew. Oh well, it inspires me one way or another.

  • @Cidiyance

Actually, the guitarist and bassist are atheist and the drummer has no affiliation.

Not sure about the keyboardist and from what I've heard I think Khan was religious.

  • I love the meaning that is put into every lyric piece. "Ice cold wind, swept my heart away" he talks about how sin has corrupted him. "bring me back to you" I feel as if he's talking to god, telling him he has strayed, and he wants to be with god again. This is what I thought of it, I get everyone has there own opinion of it :/

  • amazing

  • 3:07, if you wanna just skip to the best part.

  • @worldemperor85 how about 0:00 listen to it then put it back to that part and listen over and over :D

  • Essa música é mto linda....

Ela sempre está cmg nos momentos tristes..

  • I personally don't believe in god, I DO believe in Satan. but if anyone else understand where I'm coming from then tell me.

Everyone is right, their's NO evidence god exists at all, especially for me, and my friends. We believe in Satan but not God.

    Why?

Because God has never done ANYTHIGN for us good, we've always experienced things of evil will, not good will!

I'm not trying to piss anyone off, but in my Opinion God is a lie.

  • @TheLove4Inuyasha God is a lie... But what people need to understand is... The devil lives in us... So does God. What do you think the bible tries to? It tries to make everyone live as a good person. God is in us, but so is Satan.

But sadly.... A lot of people takes the other side. Thats why you see almost nothing good left. Because you're right... I am not proud of being human sometimes... And I once heard... If you prayed for something, do you think god just gives it to you? Or gives you 1/2

  • @TheLove4Inuyasha 2/2 or gives you the orpitunity for it... People do the mistakes and waits for what they want, instead of looking for an opitunity for it... Thats why people stops believing... And takes the other side. And I am trying to argue with you... I am just telling you my opinion.

  • @TheLove4Inuyasha I understand what you're saying, but I think this is not about God/Satan. It's just about us. All the shit that happens is human action. Blame Satan for all this is simply ignore that everyone has its own free will and is responsible for their acts.

Now imagine you have a son and warn him not to use drugs, cause drugs will kill him. Yet, he uses and die. How would you feel? If there's a God, he may feel the same way.

  • @TheLove4Inuyasha What I really believe is... I dont really believe in a God or Satan and I'll never step into a church, but I KNOW anyone can be some kind of god sometimes. We can be the "miracle" someone needs by simply making something good or someone happy. And whatever I believe won't change the consequences of my ACTS and my peace of mind when I sleep at night.

A lot of people talk about God or even pray to God, but act the opposite way. So, I still think I made a better choice.

  • @TheLove4Inuyasha dont say that. good and evil are pretty much equal, its just that evil sells better so thats wat u see on the news. people like to moan and groan about how their life sucks and is full of suffering, but they conveniently ignore all the good. i'm sure that if you took a guy who knew nothing about anything and gave him a few lines about gandhi and hitler, and asked em which one he wants to learn about, 97% of the time he'll go for hitler. cuz he's fascinating, he's such a 1/2

  • 2/2 bastard, and no one wants to know about how good someone is thats boring. thats wat most ppl think, tho they might deny it. suffering sells well, so people try to dramatize their own lives to say they suffer too. why dyu think that one of the big american pastimes is soap operas? dont let yourself fall in that rut.

  • @worldemperor85 Most of Kamelot's songs aren't this depressing, this is not a depressing genre. Power Metal is about loving life and rockin' out, but like all metal they have a few ballads here and there. And Gandhi is boring and an asshole. It is not the fact that we like the pain, it is just the matter of what is interesting, Gandhi helped get India out of britich control with no violence, whooptie fuckin' do.

  • @GamerGuyPlus Youd be surprised at how many power metal songs really have very depressing lyrics when you look at them.

Also what makes Gandhi an asshole?

  • Khan has never publicly mentioned bout his religious views, but you can tell he was pretty upset with God by listening to most of his songs. He has gone through a deep depression and even to the point where he could no longer be in Kamelot. He left because he believed once again and felt he needed to reunite with his family. Honestly I'm upset that he left, but I'm happy that he has found peace.

  • I'm stuck, my brain is going wild. I don't know what to believe. I have worked through all of the evidence and in my opinion there is not any evidence to support God. but then I want to believe in something. Can someone help me.

  • @Dparkes26 I feel the SAME way!

  • @dogs4ever129 High five!

  • @Dparkes26 God is beyond evidence, which is actually a great argument for atheism. It's easy to believe in something that can't be disproven.

However, I am a Christian because I have concluded that the prospect of God is not inconsistent with reality, and that the Christian faith is not irrational. This opened the door for both self-reflection and an honest review of different faiths.

I suppose it just requires a willingness to examine the best theist and atheist arguments.

  • @7thHanyou Well, can I ask two things, First of all... When me and my mates were young, we thought (don't laugh, we were 10 ) that if we threw rocks into the sea, somehow the waves would enlarge and take an effect on what we did. And recently i thought, possibly the religions could have been formed in a similar, yet much more complex way, Oh and the second question... I went to my local church to ask for help, and they were all completely elitist about the subject.are all Christians similar?

  • @Dparkes26 We have two alternatives:

    1) The universe came into existance in defiance of the very laws that govern it ("matter cannot be created or destroyed," 1st law of thermodynamics). That seems impossible.

    2) There is a God who transcends physical law and created the universe and everything in it.

It's clear to me that there must be a God. And I'm very confident that it is the Christian one.

    Hope that helps.

  • @subsurfacestatic1 Who said matter had to be created or destroyed, and that it didn't simply change form?

  • @Gokira666 It would have had to have changed from SOMEthing into the universe we see today. That brings us back to the question "Where did it come from?" "It" in this case being the hypothetical whatever-it-was that pre-existed matter. Hence the logical need for a Creator, since neither matter or the SOMEthing could have come into existance by itself.

  • @subsurfacestatic1 It doesn't have to be a creator at all, it's just a supreme cop out due to lack of understanding.; the reason religion was created in the first place. There has to be evidence of something to consider it as a legitimate source, and there is none for god. Case closed.

  • @rcg1989 Of course it has to be a Creator. Either that or the universe acts in defiance of its own laws, take your pick. The evidence for "a" god is the exitance of the universe itself, since it could not have sprung into existance by itself (how can something that doesn't exist yet create itself?). The evidence for "the" God (the Christian one) is in part the prophetic record of the Bible. But there's plenty more than that.

  • @subsurfacestatic1 The basic fundamentals of modern astrophysics is entirely based on "Something created from nothing," while I may not completely agree, the mathematics fit. Plus, if you look at particles, or even pixels of the atom at the quantum level, you can see that things don't quite act as you would expect them to in nature. In fact, particles blink in and out of existence at all times between dark matter and open space.

  • @TheNatureOfBetrayal There's a lot we don't yet understand about how the universe began, but what we DO understand precludes the creation of something out of nothing. If modern astrophysics is truly based on "something created from nothing" then it's flying in the face of the Laws of Thermodynamics, which the physists themselves discovered and proved. One would expect astrophysists would know better...

  • @subsurfacestatic1 I'd rather believe in no god at all than the cruelty and terrible nature of the Christian god. What a terrible diety...

  • @jkhaleel I'm guessing you're just trolling, so won't get into the "terrible deity" part, except to say that Jesus (God incarnate), in taking on the sins of all mankind, on this earth suffered under God's hand more than anybody ever did...

But it doesn't matter what you'd *rather* believe. What matters is what's real.

God is real, and we'll all face Him someday. If you ARE trolling, maybe another subject would be safer. ;-)

  • @subsurfacestatic1 I'm not trolling in the slightest. Have you read your own bible? Your god is cruel, jealous, unreasonable and sanctified everything from genocide to war. I'm not even going to go into your unbelievable arrogance in claiming to know that your god is the right one and how unbelievably ridiculous that claim is. Just suffice to say that your loving god is indeed terrible, and not at all benevolent.

  • @jkhaleel Epic is right that this is not the place to have an extended religious debate, so I'll close my end of it by just saying that there's clearly a lot you're ignorant of. If you ever want to know the truth--most people don't, btw--seek it with all your heart and I believe you will find it (Jer 29:13).

The last word in this conversation is yours if you want it.

And Epic, I wish I had had the chance to see Kamelot live while Khan was still its singer. :-(

  • @Dparkes26 God is in everything you see. Haven't you ever looked at a sunrise or sunset and wondered how such a beautiful thing could be in this world. The world is the way we made it but God has a higher plan and we all have something of him in us whether we see it or not. All those who think that God does bad things to us are wrong. God lets us go through things to make us able to be who we are ment of be in his plan but he doesn't force us to see that because it is our choice.

  • @1christianhope

If I capture and torture another person in order to "show" them what it can be like or what I want them to do, I'd be considered a monster, no matter how many beautiful paintings I've made.

Yet for "God", apparently devising a "plan" full of unfathomable suffering (for some, not for all, and pretty randomly distributed) it's apparently alright because he... creates pretty sunrises?

Sorry, you may accept such double standards, but they don't REALLY fly ;)

    But whatever.

  • can anyone recommend me to any great metal ballads i dnt mind huge lists because i need some new stuff to listen to cheers!

  • @YorkGod1 Try some song from Dream Theater. They have alot of amazing ballads (:

  • @YorkGod1 navigate the seas of the sun by bruce dickinson.

  • @YorkGod1 X-japan - forever love

  • Chills down my spine. And it's heartbreaking...

  • 2:58 to the end is fucking deadly!

  • 20 people had in mute the video when playing.

  • We will miss you Roy Khan. Get better soon!!

  • This song moves me to tears every time I listen...

It can be so depressing, but by the very end, you can hear the very strength behind it.

  • Im trying to learn this on piano so I can play it on the talent show sometime in the next 2 years (however long it takes me to learn it perfectly; im a slow learner xD)

  • @TMCKookeh You should totally do it! Then get someone to record it, and post a vid on youtube! This would be an amazing song to play for a talent show :D

  • This song it's about Goethe's Faust hence the epicness.

  • whoever hit the dislike button needs a facepalm

  • This song is so beautiful

  • it super sad, but at the same time so freaking moving

  • i love this kind of songs ,, so sorrowful

  • I CAN'T really uncerstand how people can dislike videos with music like this

  • A true God would never abandon anyone. Or so I think. Which is why I think many religions are self-contradictory.

  • @lordmithharn love this beautiful song, but dont draw conclusions on religion based upon a song. Just think, was he really abandoned, or just being tested?

  • @valekdmog He felt abandoned, and if a God is truly almighty then Ariel was indeed abandoned.

  • @valekdmog ooooh, the fun I would have with YOU in a religious debate ^_^

99% of ALL the religions out there contradict themselves so many times that it's just... whatever, anyway

If you're a believer then by all means, believe. BUT... please believe on YOUR own time, not on youtube spreading around what YOU believe to other people

unless you'd like to support your statement by fact (and no, what's in the "bible" doesn't count as fact, it's EXTREMELY biased) then please keep quiet... thanks

  • @pandatrueno1 @pandatrueno1 "If you're a believer then by all means, believe. BUT... please believe on YOUR own time, not on youtube spreading around what YOU believe to other people"

We Christians are not supposed to spread our belief on YouTube, yet it's fine for you, a non-believer, to spread your disbelief here? How is that either logical or just?

  • @subsurfacestatic1 As you seem to have missed the main point of my last comment I'll add it for you again.

unless you'd like to support your statement by fact (and no, what's in the "bible" doesn't count as fact, it's EXTREMELY biased) then please keep quiet... thanks

I'm not "spreading" MY disbelief, I'm simply stating FACT, 99% of all religions DO contradict themselves at some point. I wasn't saying no one should believe, I was stating a FACT, what you're doing is spreading your FAITH.

  • @pandatrueno1 Didn't miss your main point: I just didn't figure an extended religious debate was appropriate, so limited my observation to your feeling it's all right to post your beliefs but that it's not all right for me to post mine.

If you wanted to have a discussion re: supposed Bible contradictions, you could Google "Bible contradictions" and I could Google "answers to accusations of contradiction" but we wouldn't accomplish much. So I'll just let my original valid point stand.

  • @lordmithharn In Islam God pretends that he himself has made the atheists to be this way, to reject every sign of God's existence. Why the heck would he do that? He says he has the power to make them become believers but does not do it. Then stop asking people to do it you sick bastard O_O.

Truth is, the real divinity doesn't ask anyone to pray to it, it doesn't punish and doesn't judge, it just loves. if you can let go of your ego you can feel it

    Anyways, great song!

  • @InfinityDz I can feel a lot of things. Some are easy to make sense of, others are not. I, however, would never label it anything. Being so certain that what you cannot explain is indeed divinty, is a shameless sign of ignorance. The only wise thing to do is always to wonder about what it is, and being open-minded. This is why I despise religions claiming to be preaching the truth, and knowing the answers no one can know. I would not trade doubt for tunnel-vision any day of my life.

  • @lordmithharn thanx for calling me stupid

  • @InfinityDz Whether you are truly stupid or not depends on how open-minded you are and your ability to learn. I have thought many stupid things, and I probably still do. What is important is your ability to dismiss believes if they are challenged by a newer, more logical belief.

  • @lordmithharn well, I'm not convinced of anything (not even my own existence), my point was just that I'd rather "believe" in the divinity I've described rather than an ego driven and vindicative man in the sky.

  • @lordmithharn: It's part of a story.

  • @CallingCrowe I know, and it still applies, if you know that story.

  • @lordmithharn thank you someone who can understand ^^

  • @lordmithharn ah, people who tell it like it is. Can't get enough of those.

  • @lordmithharn True God, fun stuff.

  • @lordmithharn : listen to the lyrics. It's "Why have You abandoned me IN MY SOBRIETY" And that's actually what happens when your heart hardens toward God.

  • @subsurfacestatic1 Valid point, that interpretation does make sense.

  • @lordmithharn Hmmm... In many ways, I have been abandoned by many of my gods over the years, if you take a god as anything your universe revolves around for the moment.

  • @lordmithharn this music tells about the history of Ariel, the pact that he does with the devil... and now he is looking for god

  • @lordmithharn this music tells about the history of Ariel, the pact that he does with the devil... and now he is looking for god

  • @lordmithharn What do you know of god? As a agnostic/deist, I think god has abandoned us all. Think of him as a parent, he was there when we were young, but now we need to figure out our problems on our own.

  • @Seekcro I know nothing of God. But I get a lot of interesting replies to my comment, and that was the best God theory I have read to this day : )

  • @Seekcro "God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him." - Nietzsche

  • @Darkflare221 “If there were no God, it would have been necessary to invent him.” - Voltaire

  • @Seekcro I most certainly agree.

  • @Seekcro "The history of Religious Wars is the history of people fighting over their imaginary friends." - Yasser Arafat.

  • :' |

  • 18 people have been abandoned.

  • sad

  • her love just vanished :\ this music really helps me

  • when 2% of the human kind is different they are called crazy, mentaly insane.. ohh look at the humbs up 1070 vs 18.. wonder what those 18 people are

  • God. Kamelot makes the most beautiful and epic metal I have ever ever ever heard.

  • He basically said,"Have you abandoned me in my state of being sober?" for "Have you abandoned me in my sobriety".. What does he mean by that.

  • @Viz731 i havn't read Goethe's Faust but i interprit this as him talking about Mephisto, before ariel was with him he could feel god there, when Ariel met mephisto he was got drunk basically he made promise to Mephisto that he regrets, he realises that he can never enter heaven, so he can never se helena again. Now hes sobered up he feels like god is not with him anymore, because of the drunk promises, so he calls out asking god when he is no longer there for him now he is sober again.

  • @K3STR3Lx i think that is correct but again i havn't read Goethe's Faust so i can't be sure

  • "Ice cold winds swept my heart away."

Amazing how they have so much meaning in every little lyrical fragment. The one above, alone, talks about how life corrupts the innocent heart.

    "Bring me back to you."

  • 18 people thought the 'dislike' button 'Dis I Like'

  • From 03:11 on- powerful stuff!

  • @bolix67 indeed, my favourite part is at 03:11 <3

  • The music is best live

  • One of the greatest voices I've heard.

  • 18 people need to do the following: Take about 30 minutes out of your day, first of all. Second, spend 4:10 to listen to this song one more time for good measure. Then finally, spend the next 25:50 sitting quietly thinking about their vote.....before going to fuck themselves.

  • To say that Khan somehow doesn't "need religion" when he sings about religious themes seriously short-changes the music. I would certainly hope that he believes what he is singing with some level of conviction. Songs about spirituality are birthed out of a spirit with a particular religious understanding. The stupidest thing anyone can say, is that it's just music, and we should simply "rock out" to it and enjoy it...

  • A magnificent piece of music.

  • Another great song from the Black Halo Album.

  • Seriously, though, Khantatat...jus sayin. Anway, I love this version of Abandoned because it's so peaceful, but the live is epic and awesome, Kamelot cannot do wrong!

  • @MurtaghXFreakX225 i see the peacefull ocean in abandoned, and in the pandemonium i see zombies, epic

  • you guys know his real name is Khantatat right? he just uses khan as a stage name and khan is a central asian name thats not exclusive to musloms

  • This and Epica are ready for Broadway.

  • Lovely song.

But what in the hell. I'm reading the comments to see what the fuck is up, reading how a arguament was actually resolved. And I read some unorganized chicken scractch about Khan being Muslim. Not that there is nothing wrong with Muslims but how in the hell can some one profile an artist due to their name. But whatever going back to Kamelot this is one helluva song.

  • unique song!!!!

  • Beautiful song

  • he can sing

  • I want to make love to roy's voice:P

  • @guitarsnroses90. Yes alot of queensyche ballads sound similar. In fact roy's voice especially when he sings baritone is nearly a dead ringer for geoff tates.Check out lady jane by them

  • Roy Khan is the great voice of Kamelot.

  • In my opinion.... this is the best song from any Kamelot's Album....

  • I LOVE this song!!

    @Burgerboy: you're right :)
