Alright audiences nowadays are really stupid this film deserves all of the credibility Avatar received. What the fuck is avatar about-Pocahontus with big blue cat people. This film is completely original and over the course of a year or two, Neill Blomkamp conceived a screenplay that was nominated for the best screenplay oscar. James Camerons screenplay got no nomination despite what people call "original". This film was nominated for best picture as well-which it completely deserves.

They couldn't fit in modern civilization, and they also didn't share their technological secrets, which means they were pretty useless, but the only reason the humans didn't exterminate them is because they were afraid of an invasion.Once they found out how Wikus can fire the alien weapons...

Sure it had some sci-fi elements,

Alright audiences nowadays are really stupid this film deserves all of the credibility Avatar received. What the fuck is avatar about-Pocahontus with big blue cat people. This film is completely original and over the course of a year or two, Neill Blomkamp conceived a screenplay that was nominated for the best screenplay oscar. James Camerons screenplay got no nomination despite what people call "original". This film was nominated for best picture as well-which it completely deserves.

Because that movie isn't about the technological advantage off the "prawns", how did they get there, where are they from, how have they evolved into bipedal insects.
District 9 is a movie that fits well in the Realism, as in literature, mostly because the main character is a nervous, mild-mannered man, who hasn't any special traits or motivation, and the movie show us how do those people, that goverment, reacts to these aliens and how they treat them.
The message is clear:

They couldn't fit in modern civilization, and they also didn't share their technological secrets, which means they were pretty useless, but the only reason the humans didn't exterminate them is because they were afraid of an invasion.Once they found out how Wikus can fire the alien weapons...
The human nature is just like that:"Take what you need,destroy what you don't".
Sure it had some sci-fi elements,
but a movie that close to reality is not likely a "science-fiction".

@paleobc65 btw district 9 had a much better screenplay, it had great visuals, and the storyline is basic? I'm sorry but the character from the beginning unlike Avatar, was a complete jerk and he turned into a man who comes to his senses and helps aliens escape. Yes there may be some man vs man elements, but then again you have to understand that the story stands out here more.

I have to agree. Avatar had no memorable characters or plot. It was all about spectacle. I enjoyed Avatar, but strictly from an aesthetic standpoint. It was visually beautiful, but that is pretty much all there was to it.
District 9 is MUCH more original and special in a lot of ways; overall, a better movie.

but seriously, all of you who talk about how humans are evil are being irrational. it isn't all humans, it is just the corporation that did that. you even saw around the beginning the alien rights protesters. and also, the aliens in it were just from the worker caste of their species, with a few leader workers among them (I.e. Christopher and the other green ones.) so imagine what the warriors of their species have in store.

@rjamesify The alien didn't do anything wrong. It was simply unlucky enough to have been rounded up by these guys, to be used in experiments. The government wants to learn how to use their technology, and also want to know their weaknesses, etc.
