  • Royce gracie es leyenda del UFC ^^

mano aririba los q piensan q royce gracie es el mejor :D

  • @somyabuerabialadw judo won but he had a extreme weight advantage

  • @ksungjin10 Not really. Only the Gracie's claimed he had an extreme weigh advantage. Kimura was only 5'7", and he was well built...but competed in Judo around 175 - 185lbs. He was heavier than Helio for sure, but not by as much as the Gracie's make it out to be.

  • @edyl888 helio was known to be one of the smaller ones of the gracies. Judging by the video it seems to be that Masahiko had at least 10-20 pounds weight advantage. Not that i am taking anything from masahiko, he is a legend to me and he deserves the win completely, but he DID have a weight advantage and it could have gone differently if they weighed the same.

  • @ksungjin10 The Gracie's are known to put their own "spin" on things. I respect them a lot, don't get me wrong...but I just wish they could admit to their own shortcomings sometimes. Kimura did have a weight advantage, I'm not sure if you've read the Gracie website, but they claim it was 80lbs! This is ridiculous of course, unless Helio was built like a small petite girl. I think Kimura would have won regardless, he was just a different sort of athlete. But admittedly, we can only speculate.

  • @edyl888 yea i would say 80 pounds is a bit of an exaggeration. And they really can't say Masahiko does not deserve the win. But in my opinion, if you look at athletes today, 10 pounds is a really big difference. At this level everything counts. And I truly believe that Gracie would have won if he didn't have the weight handicap, BUT we can only speculate.

  • @ksungjin10 Indeed, but 10lbs or indeed any weight difference really only plays a part when all else is equal. I believe Kimura was far superior standing, so he would dictate where the fight goes...and he was at least Helio's match on the ground (technique-wise), and perhaps even better. Helio Gracie was an absolute warrior though, so anything could have happened. I respect your opinion, and agree it was certainly possible for Helio to win under those conditions, just not probable. :)

  • @edyl888 its sad warriors like these guys arn't immortal. you would think people who push their bodies like this would live at least a hundred years. sadly we lost kimura to cancer. Kimura himself, declared helio a winner because he didnt think a man helio's size would stand a chance against him. and the fact that kimura had him in a "kimura lock" and helio didnt tap, instead he faced the pain like a true warrior and suffered a broken shoulder.

  • @ksungjin10 Indeed. Imagine if we could continue to learn from them until the end of our days. :\

Actually, Kimura's bio claimed that Helio was around 80kg, which is probably a guess and a bit high. That stuff about a "moral victory" due to size was more fluff made up by Rorian Gracie, without Helio's knowledge I might add. Kimura did respect the hell of out Helio though (who was also a 6th dan black belt in Judo), and apparently invited him back to teach in Japan.

  • @edyl888 i wish i was there in person. Those two are one the greatest legend out there. Helio lived a long life but most of these great masters die at such an early age. ironic isnt it?

  • @Mrjonplane does he use it? Nope. It's almost useless in mma. Bjj wrestling and strikes. Sorry loser! Bang your mothers asshole.

  • looked like spiders fighting

  • Bottom line, you will be a better martial artist if you cross train. Do both. Bjj and judo

  • JUDO RULE BABY , jiujit su are gai

  • @somyabuerabialadw

    Judo Won!

  • Heavy (cain) wrestling, light heavy (bones Jones) wrestling, middle (silva) bjj, welter (Gsp) bjj, wrestling, gymnastics, karate, Muay Thai, .... but not judo! LOL... light (edgar) wrestling, feather (aldo) bjj and Thai. have any of these fighter said "I'm going to japan to learn judo from the best in the world"..... not one. Take a poll.

  • @bloodline321 Silva is a Judo blackbelt, dumbass.

  • @bloodline321 MMA is not just UFC. Fedor is one of the GOAT's for HW, and he used Judo/Sambo...and never trained BJJ at all. Funny you bring up "Bones" Jones as he has openly admitted to studying and using Judo in his fights. You seem to think Judo only consists of high altitude throws and nothing else, many fighters with Judo backgrounds (DHK, Okami, Jacare/Nog) use it and you probably don't even recognize it. You seemed respectful in previous posts, not sure why you're hating on Judo so much.

  • LOL. repeat > another dude had a good point. Helio beat Kimura's top student. Kimura was the master. Of course he was going to have more waza than helio. In that time, helio took the position of # 2 best guy, above Kimura's top student, who was choked out by helio. Judo guys. All you have is this victory. Get over it. I haven't seen anything else from judokas. All the champions in combat sports (mma) have been bjj or wrestling.

  • @bloodline321 Helio beat Kato, who was neither #2 in Japan (as the Gracie's like to say) nor Kimura's student. The best Judoka aim for the Olympics, and only come to MMA when they are unable to compete at that level anymore. Again, why the hate? PrideFC's HW champ was a Judoka/Samboist. Sanae Kikuta won 01' ADCC, Sakurai beat a nearly 100lb heavier BJJ Blackbelt in ADCC in Rodriquez. Does this prove Judo is the best? No...my point is that it is more than you make it out to be though. Fact.

  • Judo Newaza doesn't match bjj ground game. Visa versa . judo takedowns are sick. judo has too many rules. no leg attacks first. Bjj and judo together, wow! Monster!

  • @somyabuerabialadw my bad i thumbed down this by mistake. it was judo that won and since the victory a famous move called the kimura lock was invented and added to the judo and bjj move list

  • I'm sorry, but Kimura absolutely dominated that match. Yeah yeah, the weight advantage, I know. Even still. Dominant.

  • What's with the stupid heart beat bullshit? I'm surprised there isn't more BJJ nut hugging going on here. I'm still waiting for the "ughhh it was unfair, kimura had a weight advantage" bullshit.

  • This happend whrn BJJ was being develop...The only way Judo would give a BJJ athlete problems on the grond is if the Judoka is Olympic level...

  • @chopo141 I disagree, I believe that success is dependant on the type of athlete practising the style, not the style itself. victory will go to the most determined committed and focused. In my opinion there is no superior style, just superior athletes.

  • @themusicman555 Yes, I agree with your comment. I believe that there is no superior style or dominant style in martial arts. Only the person's skill level in martial arts will dictate in a fight.

  • Masahiko Kimura is the strongest judo athlete.

  • judo

  • put it dis way bjj fighters when u get to the real world no 1 is gonna get on der knees n say come on lets fight u have 2 take them down first den finnish them with judo you learn how to throw them and grapple them bjj u just learn how to grapple iv done both sports and my choice is judo

  • wrong, sport jiujitsu does just grappling, but Gracie jiujitsu teaches clinch takedowns and ground grappling, make no mistake between sport and REAL GRACIE JIUJITSu

  • i understand how BJJ and JUDO came from the original jujuitsu in japan...but i see JUDO as more effective for the reason that it simply uses the most effective techniques...for example just in mma in which is applies more than just grappling..the "armbar" which is quoted as a judo move..is always the most effective submission...same with the kimura...im unsure about the rear naked choke..it seems to be in all martial arts..from BJJ guilotine and the "platas" seem to be very complicated

  • judo comes from jiu-jitsu and they're both forms of jujutsu.

  • It's the opposite. Jiu Jitsu comes from Judo.

  • @epics7

then what do you think Kano practiced before he came up with judo?

  • ARGHH. WHERE IS THE ENTIRE FIGHT?

I always only see 2 minutes of this great legendary fight. Can somebody please tell me if the entire fight is somewhere out there or if it even exists and why? Thanks.

  • Kosen Judo consists entirely of groundwork (newaza). Most grapplers are surprised to find that nearly all of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques were being practiced in Japan before WW2.

  • Actually, it was being practiced even before 20th century. And at that time, they sure didn't do it for competition...

  • yo, im more of a striker, and this might be a noob question. Does Judo do joint locks too or just takedowns? What's the main difference between BJJ and Judo?

  • Judo vs. BJJ may be the greatest rivalry in martial arts history. They stem from the same source, and are extremely similar nowadays, but the biggest difference is in strategy. Otherwise, they consist of many of the same techniques.

  • Leglocks and footlocks were banned from judo in 1911 due to injuries. In 1925 Kano Changed the rules so that judo would be 70% nagewasa and only 30% newasa, and from those 30% mostly wold be osaewasa. In 1925, they made a decree to force the change of the name from Kano jiu-jitsu to judo.

  • Leglocks and footlocks can be practiced perfectly safely, even in competition. Sambo is an excellent example of this. In BJJ they are also taught, but only footlocks are allowed below Brown belt level competition, and then all leglocks are allowed.

  • ok so 2 really shed some light on those that think bjj is better than judo, if it was better the police would be using it in japan, after all they did a match between the best judo players and best jj players, judo won 9 of the 10 matches. ITs better, more refined, bjj is a quick fix, they teach it fast, but 2 master judo takes time Kano Jigoro players beat &won all of the fights& competitions against jj ALL of the time, thats ythe police use it on the streets of japn. BJJ from JJ Judo is better

  • That's not true at all. It takes longer, in fact, to move up through the BJJ ranks than it does Judo. I know because I've been training both for about four years; I've had my Blue in Judo for a year and a half, but I've only just recently got my BJJ blue.

They are extremely complementary arts. The Newaza in BJJ is much more comprehensive, just as the standup in Judo is much more comprehensive than that of BJJ.

They're two sides of the same coin.

  • "It takes longer, in fact, to move up through the BJJ ranks than it does Judo."

You mean today, right? Because I know some black belts from the Old Judo school and they said it took half of their lifes to put their hands on a black belt.

  • That doesn't make even a slight amount of sense, especially given the fact that the further back in the history of Judo you go, the more a black belt was viewed as a belt of proficiency rather than mastery.

In fact, the original belt system used did not contain any coloured belts at all; a practitioner progressed from white to black when they were deemed skilled enough.

Half a lifetime is simply untrue.

  • Well it depends on how well you do as well. If you suck it will take longer obviously. Martial arts are not like unions. They don't give you a higher rank for time served even though you suck at it.

  • yeah dude you may be thinking of aikido

  • I see. I suppose that's why Yoshida and Royce were so amazingly close in skill, and fought extremely lengthy matches under MMA rules.

And I suppose that's why Helio lasted that long against the best Judoka of all time. And I suppose that's also why the Camarillo brothers, two of the best grapplers in the world, strongly emphasise crosstraining between the two arts.

Judo is not a superior art. BJJ is not a superior art. They're both effective, comprehensive systems which complement one another

  • judo dude

  • Kimura Won.

  • otimo video!!!

  • ok im here to shine the light on u guys actualy JJ or jiu jutsu was the original martial arts used by samurais but then when the death of all samurais occured they all died but before then Kano Jigoro created judo than a japanese samurai that knew jiu jutsu moved to brazil who taught jiu jutsu to a brazilian family and it is now know as BJJ or brazilian jiu jutsu which is slightly modifed so judo and BJJ are connected to JJ but i think BJJ is a lil bit bettr then judo since they have more chokes

  • In fact, BJJ came from judo. Mitsuyo Maeda was a judoka and learned from Kano Jigoro the so called "Kano jiujitsu" and when he came to Brazil the name of the fight was Kano jiujitsu or just jiu-jitsu. The word judo was not known in Brazil until the 50's. In Japan the distintion came officialy in 1925. There were more than a hundred styles of different martial art systems called jujutsu. But the BJJ is the newasa part of the judo. Any doubts, check who was Mitsuyo Maeda.

  • I heard that one of the main diffrences is the jiu jitsu focus more on grappling than judo.

  • By 1925, Jigoro Kano changed the rules so that judo would be only 30 % of newasa and 70% in nagewasa. And as well in 1925, they made a decree by japanese governmente that made the name "judo" obligatory, instead of jiu-jitsu.

  • yupp with a few leg locks and you have Fedor!

  • sorry you are correct i always get the names mixed up

  • jiu jitsu foi criado na india depois foi pro japao e no seculo 20 chegou no brasil e judo vem do jiu jitsu pelo menos eh o q quase todos dizem

  • I found some forum that said Judo is just throw, and BJJ is more complete style of...

And some said Judo comes from BJJ!!!

    Ahhhhh, Bull shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • qual é o do jiu jitsu?

  • o lutador do jiu jitsu eh o q ganhou mas se nao mostrou kem ganheu nao faço a minima ideia

  • hell yesss!

u can yap about which is better.

better yet why dont you learn BOTH and use the together.

just to find out how much of a beast you'll become at grappling.

    judo+jiu jitsu=guerrila jiu jitsu

  • there is a video somewhere where gracie admits he was unconscience for a few seconds in the fight

  • soldier is exactly right. If they are to be effective in a fight, you need to know both. They both derive from jujutsu and compliment eachother perfectly.

  • Great Video...thanks for posting this!...

  • The smart man learns both Judo and BJJ. Those two arts go hand in hand. Dave Camarillo, Paulo Filho, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Jacare all have black belts in both Judo/BJJ

  • I could be wrong, but I heard that many of the Gracie's have crosstrained in Judo, and hold black belts as well. I'm sick of all the ignorant, proud people that claim that Judo or BJJ is better. Keep in mind that everything is relative, and the 2 complement each other beautifully.

  • god dammit, rather than argue about what style came from what, how about everybody look up the styles on wikipedia. then you will all know the truth.

  • why does it say this video got removed?

  • So we can say that Ju-Jitsu > Judo > Jiu-Jitsu. That dont means nothing about fighters. Sometimes an good specialist its better than an generalist, sometimes the opposite happens. the fight is not just about martial arts styles. It includes fitness, strategy, tactics, good study of the adversary, intelligence and of course luck.

  • I shoul say that ju-jitsu its practiced today, that old school martial art its still alive by its own. But...

Ju-jitsu its not Jiu-Jitsu or Brazilian Jui-jitsu. This latter martial art evolved from Judo. We can say that its an subdiscipline of judo. Basically its the ground fight - Katame Waza (Control Technics - Osaekomi Waza + Articulation locks - Kansetsu-Waza + Strangulation Technics - Shime-Waza) of Judo.

  • Ju-Jitsu its an Ancient Japanese Martial Art. Its the "mother" of all Japanese Martial Arts. Was the Martial Art of the Samurais, and of course was very complete. We can say that modern Japanese Martial Arts are "disciplines" of the Ju-Jitsu. So Karate, Judo, Kempo, Bo-jutsu are "disciplines" of ju-jitsu, exploring each one different aspects of that martial art.

  • noo...the mother of japoneses martial arts is a JU jitsu, not a jiu jistu.

    ;]

  • I bet Helio started to regret publicly tauting Kimura about how badly he was going to get beaten etc. right as his arm started to snap.

  • jiu jitsu is not about strength but form

a big judo guy is more likely to lose against a small jiu jitsu fighter but if they are both big or both small its more of a fair fight

  • sorry man, its depend on the person, but a well trained judoka and not ones of these guys that u see in some videos around here a Well trained, would give a lot of shit to a bjj.I stopped train hard for ejuries and age, but my 30 yrs, old fashion judo, never betrayed me against a bjj.Judo well stadied is way more compleat

  • judo is less about strength than ju-jitsu. it has no punches or kicks its its all about momentum unlike ju-jitsu.

  • Then why, when judo was invented, did they call it, 'small mans jujitsu' ?

  • because Kano was of slight build and created Judo to fit his style of fighting

  • correct me if i am wrong but i thought that bjj was crafted FROM judo, not the other way round

  • There are many forms of jiu jitsu

aincient forms and the gracie shit

and many others judo is more for takedowns

but jiu jitsu is ment for ground fighting and a bit of takedowns they are both good like judo is cool but the real jiu jitsu did come before judo and really they were not formed off of each other but quite the same and diffirant

  • judo was created directly from jujitsu. brazilian juijitsu was directly created from japanese jujitsu.

  • well i have seen helio gracie before along with most of the other gracie family member like rodrigo gracie royce gracie and of course helio gracie they all come to my tkd/juijistu class about every 2nd month for about 4 days

  • jiu jitsu derived from judo u got it backwards buddy and bjj came from the japs.

  • No it didn't moron. Judo is less than 100 years old, juijitsu is 100's and 100's of years old.

"And bjj came from the japs".. wow, gee thanks for repeating exactly what I said moron. thanks for contributing. Go wear your hat at an angle and buy some mcdonalds.

  • judo came from jujitsu and bjj came from judo and not directly from jujitsu. Mitsuo Maeda taught judo to carlos gracie and the gracie's later created BJJ

  • Actually Judo was first developed over 120 years ago (Jigoro Kano first introduced the system which he called Judo in 1884) so it's older than 100 :)

And Maeda never taught the Gracies "japanese jujitsu" because he never learned "japanese jujitsu" he was a Judoka who trained under Jigoro Kano and was sent by him to spread his new art - Judo.

  • Dude you are a dumbass. Jigaro Kano did jiu-jitsu when he was younger and later on developed Judo. Judo was created roughly around 1900.

  • obviously you do not know shit about judo so neither your own martial art

  • this is pure JIU-JITSU!!!

    and judo cames from JIU-JITSU!!!

  • wats worse is a strong guy who knows jujitsu or judo...

  • Man Kimura really dominated

  • this isnt just regular jiujitsu this is gracie jiujitsu

  • this is pure JUDO!!!!

  • yes; judo newaza.

  • its all the same its all Japanese

  • Kimura is built like a freaking tank!!!
