I a 06 rx8 auto owner you are rigth 04 & 05 has 4 speed & one oil cooler. 06 to 2010 automatic has 6peeds & 2 oil coolers. well I like the car couse of perfect handling & unique style well handling & amooth & great ride thanks to rotary engine.for my needs I went for auto you I lose 20 hp but is ok in LA CA some time s you get stock in traffic & spend 1 hour in 15 miles .Is a great car require extra care & normaloil consuption & low gas milage but most rx8 owners agree ........

gotta say i hate that power kill at 9k and the fact that it sounds as bad as if you redlined a clutch that would make me nervous. under no circumstance would i give up my MT rx8

@adp29501 lol's, nitrous, supercharger, decrease drivetrain power loss(i.e. pulley), fuel upgrades... hahaha most cars can be fast with money spent on them even AT's ;D

@adp29501 sell the 04 auto go with an 06 auto. The money spent in mods will basically give you what the 6 spd auto rx8 gives you. OR better, sell for an 04 6spd manual. way faster. much more fun. I own an 04 6spd, wouldn't trade it for any car under 100k.

Goes pretty good. I counted 7 seconds flat to 60, only slightly behind a manual RX8. What did you do to it, a reflash?

if the factory had it max rpm at 7500rpm or something, there must be a meaning to it.

The car can handle 9000rpm for sure just like the manual but ur auto gearbox might die quicker, i think that is the reason they the factory had it at 7500rpm max for the auto rx8.

The 2004-2005 automatic transmisson models were 4-speed. In 2006 the automatic transmissions now came 6-speed. Increased by two speeds over the base 4-speed, enabled the overall gear ratio range to be widened and the gaps between each gear to be reduced to achieve a better close ratio. Okay guys the 2004-2005 automatic transmissions was a 4-port 192 based horsepower, in 2006 they made the Automatic transmission 6 port just like the manual transmisson but only giving it 212hp.

there is definitely still a slight power difference between the MT and AT, and sure u may be getting clean shifts, but whos to say somebody cant shift that well on a MT? and it still doesnt account for the two extra gears in a MT

plus its entirely too much fun to drive a manual, especially on this type of car

Two extra gears? Mine is a 6spd AT hahaha I dont know of the 8spd MT? No no im not saying it is worse or better I was just showing how you can work with the AT.

since when do they make a 6spd AT that isnt with the paddle shifters or whatever...i have never seen a AT that isnt a 4spd and not have the paddle shifters.

maybe its only on the newer models that they use the paddle shifters, but i personally have never seen it thats all

plus its still more fun driving the MT lol

for the year 2004~2005, is 4 speed

year 2006and up, is 2 more gears, become 6 speed and 250more rpms, 2 more ports and 15more hps

Yea the car can handle it, point is now there is not much power difference with the MT and always getting clean shifts.

@BlAck0uTB4 you can choose how fast you can shifft you cant double clutch you downshift when you want to manual will always be completely different from auto man and you cant even drive semi auto i can only imagine stick
