@webmotion87 Hi!! Im planning to buy a Sony HDR-CX115 or something like that.. Is it good? And Do you know how many this fps can shoot in?? 60fps would be fine can it do that? :) Reply as fast as you can please!!
@LewiNkz Hi! It can not record with 60 FPS. Instead, in full HD it records 50 half frames (interleaved stuff), which later can be digitally "doubled" to get an 50 FPS feel (of course, this means it will be only half the vertical resolution. Search for 25p, 50p and 50i to get more info on that.
@maxwadsten1 it does okay, not great... maybe you should go for something CCD-based to if you're about to film fast objects. You can read about various artifacts of CMOS and CCD sensors at "dvxuser . com / jason / CMOS-CCD"
Hello. Sorry for bothering you but i have a question. If i am a filmmaker, so which cam do you advise me to buy - CX105 or CX305? The CX305 has Sony G lenses so i think it would be better, but, after watching so many CX105 vids on youtube i begin to think that CX105 is also a very god cam (or maybe just half of that CX105 test vids on YouTube are fake).
And is a CX305 more like a half-professional camcorder? Or it is still bad for cinematographic use?
@pshkflms I'm not that into Sony cams, but CX305 seems to cost more than twice as the CX105 and I doubt that it's twice the image quality. If you can afford a CX305, I'd suggest you save up to a Canon or Nikon DSLR (eg. the 90D) with HD video capability, the image quality is just superb, even in low lights. Look for test videos on YouTube and Vimeo.
The factory battery lasts about 60-90 minutes approx, and since it can only record an hour in full HD (if you only use the internal 8GB memory), it's totally enough. However, you can buy extended batteries (I've bought one for about 40 Euros, it lasts for more than 2 hours recording).
Hi man who is better the CX105 or the CX106 for what i know the only diference is the color the CX106 have more Digital Zoom and 5.1CH sound i like the multichannel sound..
CX105=380 Euro and the CX106=335 please if some one can tell me with one is better cuz it is on offer for 3 Days..
Heyhey! IMHO digital zoom is useless, if you want to zoom digitally do it afterwards during the postprocess for better quality, and as far as 5.1CH sound don't expect anything big. I just got a Sony DCR DVD109E which has 5.1 sound and it's really not that big a deal. If you're on a budget, go with CX105, unless you have concrete need for the extra sound channels.
@webmotion87 Thanks for replying. I'm going to buy this camcorder, how would you assess the video quality when shooting fast moving objects? And how about the image stabilization? I intend to shot while riding a bike. How would you rate this product in terms of action filming? Thanks.
I'm not quite sure, I've only tried walking around with the camera, it's pretty good if there's enough light. If you want to attach your camera to your helmet it's probably gonna be okay..
How this original clip look on HDTV, or PC screen compares to this uploaded on youtube? Is the same, or there's a difference in quality? And how much?
It's different, YouTube's version is more compressed, uses lower bitrate, less detailed... I can't tell you "how much", unfortunately I don't even have the original file so I can't send it to you.
Depends. Just as with any other codec: if you use the right settings, the quality's retainable. Make sure the bitrate is high enough (experiment with short clips!), keep the original resolution and keep an eye on the FPS as well, the original HD videos are in 50 "half frames" per sec (interlaced), so you may need to deinterlace somehow and the best bet is 25 or 50 FPS.
In Full HD (1080i) quality, it can record approx. an hour on the internal 8 GB memory. Note that Sony makes the HDR-XR105 and HDR-XR106 cameras which are almost identical to this, but has internal hard drives with much bigger capacity. I don't know about the Memory Stick limit, you should Google it and/or check the official user's manual (download it).
When I take the footage off of the camcorder (I have the one youve got) It's not HD atall. I used the grey cable to take the footage off. Do I need a HDMI cable to see the HD resolution?
yikes! grey cable? what kind of cable is that? to watch the footage on a HDTV you will need a HDMI cable (not included) for full resolution, or you could just watch it on a PC or Mac, for that you'll need the included run-off-the-mill miniUSB cable to copy the MTS video files (which are in HD if you took them in HD, note the |HD|FH| icon on the cam's LCD display while recording).
I have this camcorder but am finding it very difficult to use due to the codec of ".mts". I downloaded the codec so I could use it on Windows Media Player which works now, but whenever I want to edit anything the videos arn't accepted. Windows Movie Maker, it accepts them but the video is just black. I tried 2 other video editing softwares and they didnt work at all? Any advice?
On PC I used Mirillis Splash for raw MTS playback, and used 3rd party for conversion to DivX AVI (Aiseesoft MTS converter, AVS Video Converter 6, Divx Converter or Any Video Converter) or use Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro or newer for raw MTS import.
The same people who make PowerDVD Ultra 9 (which plays HD content, blu-ray, mts, etc..) make a piece of software called PowerDirector. Blows away Windows Live Movie Maker (which supports the HD content on Windows 7 but not Vista).
So in a nutshell - find Cyberlink PowerDirector! Have fun!
No, that's only the 10x optical zoom on the camera. Also there's nothing altered on that video, I've uploaded it straight to YouTube from the cam (the raw MTS file).
It's cheap, it's compact, makes decent pictures, you can use fisheyes with it (just get a 30.5mm one or a converter to use a bigger one)... if you don't have much money, it's a pretty good choice I think.
You mean that crappy little thing that looks like and makes videos like a hi-end camera phone? And where's the zoom on that thing? BTW show me a video made by a Zi8 that looks better than eg. that test footage.
Compared to what? That is an 400 EUR camcorder, and I think it's pretty decent for the price. By the way the original footage looks better in full HD and higher bitrate compared to that 720P lowbitrate MP4 version (generated by YouTube).
Hi this is superb quality? I am a English filmmaker and next year am shooting a small project in Vietnam, mostly on motorcycles. Therefore we're after something light but great quality. Do you recommend this camera? From what you've shot it here it looks superb value for money? many thanks.
Hey Daniel! Thanks for your comment. To tell the truth I wouldn't recommend that camera to a filmmaker, and not because of the quality but because it's simply not for a pro. It does not have an audio input, there are only a few options to configure the picture, no manual focuses, only 10x zoom, etc. Of course if those doesn't bother you and you're about to film something minimalistic, go ahead and buy it: it's in great value, also very sturdy and small. If you have further questions, message me!
I don't remember.. it was under 200 MB, no big deal :) I've just uploaded a 5:54 long video, 724 MB in the original MTS AVCHD format (17158 kbps total bitrate)... used the same cam, check it out.
i have the same camera, but i dont understand, why cant i but the m2ts files into vegas? do i have to convert them, and in case which program should i use?
Sony Vegas 8+ should import the Sony m(2)ts files natively. If it doesn't try converting it first; I've used Aiseesoft Total Video Converter (35$). You could try the freeware Any Video Converter or SUPER first, I didn't have luck with them. Also, the shareware DivX converter handles M(2)TS, but you'll need to download the free AC3 filter to get sound.
Thanks. The song is called In Between (Alternate version) by Leo Der Stapanians. The footage was taken from the last wagon's back window, and it's really just simple zooming between 1x and 10x.

When you have digital zoom, it looks like a Standard Definition camcroder.
Upon zooming out, you see the transition from 'ok' quality to 'great'.
The colour seeps back in from a washed out image, lines become crisp, and it looks a lot better. A great example of quality in my opinion.
