I support Ralph Nader, I support Ron Paul. Why? Two people who have different solution to the lies denial and corruption. Nobody can see the future of change, but it's clear to me that war, artificial scarcity, elitism, false flags, and presstituion are not the actions of a species I want to associate with. Honesty gets my vote. David doesn't get my subscription.
David is such a baby. He doesn't actually want to talk about the topics. He wants to cherry pick quotes and issues, like FOX news, and try to paint an incorrect picture of a candidate. It takes all of 10 - 15 minutes online to see how Ron Paul actually feels on issues, and when you try to make arguments based on your own stubborn ignorance, it only hurts your own credibility. The days of my team vs your team politics are fading, Americans are waking up and seeing through this demagoguing.
Mr. Pakman should look up the definition of Isolationism and read it aloud...and then use it in a sentence. Then explain on air exactly how it pertains to Ron Paul's foreign policy compared to other countries foreign policies over history.
Think he would bother to look up the definition? Think he would bother to educate himself on historical political science?
Ron Paul hates Israel, obviously a Dem running as a Rep. His economics may be decent but his foreign policy sucks. He even would let Hitler (or any one today)take over and annihilate countries and races as long as didn't attack us. Wonderful man.
I used to be a Democrat. Now I am an independent who will be voting for Ron Paul 2012. The problem with many democrats is that they focus on issues of lesser importance.
@TheAlibabatree No, we are actually awake, sorry it took me 4 years of obama to realise what a self entitle prick I was and how the government took advantage of me. I am much more mature now and I assume responsibility for myself, I am a democrat who actually just registered republican in california and I am voting for Ron Paul, and I have convinced a lot of my friends to do just that.
Koerner destroys Pakman in this video. According to Pakman's reasoning, mainstream liberals shouldn't have supported Obama because Obama appeared at a fundraiser at a former Weather Underground member's home. This smear of Obama (which is completely idiotic) is at the same level of reasoning as the mainstream Democrat smear of Paul. Big kudos to Koerner to demonstrate why Paul is the better candidate on civil rights.
Sorry Pakman you're no better than Bill O'Reilly or Tucker Carlson here.
David Pakman = biased media, only WORSE! 1. DR.PAUL is NOT AN ISOATIONIST, he's a NON-INTERVENTIONIST. 2.To characterize Dr. Paul as anti-civil rights, JUST because he understands the Constitution better than you? Really? 3. Saying "I know people who won't vote for Paul..."; YOU'RE a JOKE & a HARMFUL one at that! 4. You could've asked Koerner about how basic mathematics conclude Paul WILL BE the front-runner; BUT you BLEW it! Apologize publicly for your despicable bias while there's still time!
I cant vote for Ron because of my progressives ideals. I believe in voting for someone who best compliments my ideals, not just single issues. Much of the problem we are seeing in the federal government is brought on by corporate lobbyists and corrupt politicians and regulators who'd rather fill their pockets than look out for the American people.
If you eliminate money from politics (through an Amendment) and vote out the current body (Congress, Court, and Obama) you could see real progress.
oh because the "john birch society" sponsored events you shouldn't vote for him? What about the whole bill ayers BS that people were pinning on Obama?
typical liberals, just like typical republicans, being TOTAL HYPOCRITES. For the republicans, it's "SOROS", for liberals, it's "the koch brothers" or the john birch society. STUPID
@awsumpossum1 I am a Bircher and in all the literature I've seen and all the historical evidence regarding the organization, I have NEVER seen one iota of racism. EVER! The Birchers are for treating everyone equally under the Constitution. They were smeared in the '60s because they were against the further enslavement of minorities with entitlements and set-asides. Americans today...can't think for themselves, no idea how to care for themselves...NO FREEDOM...just slaves of the government.
@awsumpossum1 Government must apply justice equally, but individuals are not bound by the Constitution. Individuals are permitted to discriminate if they so choose. Maybe it's important to protect people's right to associate with whomever they want. Are you one of those who believe the Constitution gives us rights and puts restrictions upon the very people who created it? It was written to restrict government, NOT the people. JBS is merely supporting your rights, like them or not.
Why vote FOR Ron Paul? - to honor the Constitution & restore our Bill of Rights - bring our troops home & never start pre-emptive, undeclared wars - repeal the Patriot Act & Obamacare - end the War on Drugs & the War on Terror - restore the value of our money - get rid of the IRS, the TSA, the FED & FEMA - to put an honest man into the White House - to balance the federal budget - to heal our economy & allow business to create jobs - restore the rule of law & reduce the strangle of regulations
David, you are not a progressive; you are a partisan Democrat/Obama supporter. True progressives would recognize that Ron Paul would unilaterally end the wars, bring home the troops, stop the war on drugs and stop the civil liberties abuses. He would not have the votes in Congress to affect the domestic agenda you are obsessed with. Good grief.
This is a really weird interview. The guy never even gave any real reasons why progressives or liberals would want to vote for Ron Paul. He's basically just saying that he likes Ron Paul, so for that reason everyone should vote for him.
HELLO!! i am sorry, but do we even consider the man's age? He is 76 years old now, he'd be 80 before his 1st term was over?????? This is just my 1st issue with Mr. Paul. The list goes on & on. He may be anti-war, but LOOK at WHY he is anti-war. Now go on from one issue to the next and tell me WHY i should support him as a female, "over a certain age", hell a female AT ALL!! He is, to say the least, anti-woman, anti-minority, anti, anti, anti..... WHAT is Mr. Paul actually FOR???????? PLEASE!
Why is he anti-war? Because A) what we are doing is unconstitutional B) we can't afford it and C) it is immoral.
WTF else do you need?
Anti minority? DID YOU WATCH THE VIDEO? No, I guess not. Please tell me how ending the drug war that disproportionately jails minorities is "anti minority". Tell me how wanting to stop bombing all brown people is anti minority.
Further, tell me how an obstetrician who has delivered thousands of babies and probably saved many lives is anti-women
Hope you're all truly studding the issues and voting records of the candidates. A look back to history and the global struggle between tyranny and liberty would be worth while also!
**Earth to DAVID... thanks to Bush and Obama's "non-isolationist" foreign policy of constant intervention the United States is more isolated diplomatically, and more hated in the international community than EVER.
Take your self-righteous "faux-humanitarian" NATO imperialism and shove it up your ass. Do you have stock in Blackwater/Haliburton??
It doesn't take a racist to agree folks might have the "right" to be racist, so long as they don't infringe upon the rights of others. If somebody won't accept business from "race X" FINE... see how quickly they get boycotted and eventually go under!!
Today, Big Brother merely forces racism underground or incognito... Isn't it better that they are out in the open and exposing themselves? Race politics has become completely divisive (albeit well-intentioned) and counter-productive in the US.
...Ron Paul's look at rights. Liberals and republicans find it very hard to look outside their party lines, Ron Paul is logical on civil rights. Progressives could easily get behind Paul. Dunno why David keeps laughing about it. However David is right about trade, etc, the left couldn't get behind that.
Well i understand both sides of the argument. But this is what i ask people who claim that Ron Paul would only help big business and the banksters on Wall Street... if that is in fact true, why on Earth is the establishment so afraid of Ron Paul??
Why did Goldman Sachs throw their support behind Obama (who was supposed to be anti-banker), and why is Ron Paul's campaign donations almost entirely raised from grassroots individuals?
@TrueLibertine I don't think he's right about trade. Dr. Paul's constitutional foreign policy is PRO TRADE, just anti occupation and bombing! What's "isolationist" about that?
I can't in good faith support Ron Paul. I had a momentary Paul phase but after realizing that his admin would slash and burn the EPA, CDC, Domestic spending in general is a deal breaker when coupled with his Christian right attitude on things like abortion. Our best option is to primary Obama. Get to it people.
@Mestilf22 I'd love to see Obama get primaried. If he's the (D) candidate, however, I'll be writing in Paul. Have you heard about the Concord Project? Thom Hartmann did a nice piece on it. It explains how the teabaggers hijacked the GOP. We could do it to the Democrats if people got with it.
Pakman's argument is that progressives shouldn't back someone who is backed by non-progressives whether or not that candidate is truely more in line with progressives. He's a non-interventionist, not an isolationist. He doesn't support the CRA because of only 1/5 of it, which is only ONE reason, not a number reasons. This kid like so much of the left just plain mischaracterizes Paul and honestly, is just too brainwashed to understand his stances.
Reminder : Many former Obama supporters are now crossing party lines to go with Ron Paul. In about 20 closed/semi closed primary states, U wont be able to vote for Ron Paul if U R a registered Dem.So change that affiliation to REPUB today ! Don;t let them cheat U out of a vote and dont let them cheat Ron Paul out of the nomination ! That will be the ONLY way he wont win - if people don't realize they have to reg. REPUB in many states to make their vote count
@stephen36305 "The founders knew an unchecked government would grow to unsustainable proportions,"
They did? Interesting. I thought they were more afraid of letting banks and corporations run amok.
"this is why the constitution was written to limit the power of the fed gov. All these social safety nets are fine at the state level if its what the people of that state endorse."
Wow, you must be really old to have been a fly on the wall while all this was happening.
@stephen36305 "I think had the founders intent of the section in the preamble that reads "promote the general welfare" been countless social welfare programs, this is something we would have embarked on from the beginning."
Um, I can count the programs, can't you? Even if you take your shoes off? Are you cognitively disabled or just really bad at math?
And you believe that the founders knew at the time they'd be talking about 300 million multicultural people, huh?
Regarding civil rights, Robin neglected to mention the Patriot Act which basically nullifies the 4th Amendment in addition to the other police state policies embraced by the Obama administration. But the host would rather have an academic argument over legislation that was passed over 40 years ago, and disparage Ron through guilt by association. Progressives have become lapdogs for the ruling elite, just like their neocon counterparts.
@gjdavis I don't think guilt by association means what you think it means. Considering that we are dealing with explicit Ron Paul beliefs, it's safe to say the criticism is valid. As is any criticism of Ron Paul's dislike of civil rights advancements in history. Hell, Lawrence V Texas showed us he may have thought sodomy laws were ridiculous but he had no interest in advocating for the law's death. And at the same time, demonstrating that he thinks the right to privacy doesn't exist.
@snipzor Guilt by association means exactly what it says. Please see 6:48 of the interview. The host attempts to conflate Paul's views with the JBS and the Constitution Party purely by association and nothing more. Paul is the strongest advocate we have for the single most dramatic advance in civil rights in the history of the planet: it's called the Constitution. I strongly recommend you read the man's own words - which a readily available - before drawing conclusions about his positions.
@gjdavis Politics is a game of association, if you go to certain places, associate with certain people, then their views are somewhat relevant to you. Someone doesn't go to a Bircher rally if they don't have some semblance of similar policy, just as they do not go to an Evangelical rally and give a speech that panders to the attendees if they do not share ideas. And those ideas are not of freedom.
And please, don't cite the constitution in your meaningless platitudes, you look like a joke.
@snipzor Preseident Obama was endorsed by the American Communist Party. Shall we condemn him for holding the ACP's views or forwarding their agenda? No. Why? Because it is a cheap, childish rhetorical tactic that does not lead to a meaningful discussion about political ideas and their merits. By your last comment it is clear that you do not understand Ron Paul's positions. Please do yourself a favor and read his book, Liberty Defined, before you make up your mind about his ideas.
@gjdavis Did Obama seek out the endorsement? See, you are comparing two things that in no way have anything to do with each other. Ron Paul could have politely declined an appearance with the Birchers, the Evangelicals, and should have especially said no to appearing in a photo with multiple white supremacists, something that definitely did not help his cause one bit.
And yea, I know his positions, long long ago, I was young. And stupid. I supported Ron Paul and knew enough. Then, I grew older.
@snipzor If you are so familiar with Ron's positions, then please tell me why you prefer the status quo of either party to Ron Paul on the issues: foreign policy, economic policy, civil rights, corporatism, the drug war, the size and scope of government. Tell me why you think any of the candidates in either party have a clue (or even care) about what's wrong with this country and how to fix it.
@gjdavis I know his economic policy amounts to deregulate everything, leave it all to the state level, his social policy being the same to leave it all to the states while ignoring the 14th amendment, economic policy again going back to gold backing, the problem of corporatism not really being properly addressed due to the fact that he never actually has explicit solutions. His ideas are right-wing libertarianism, the "leave it to the states" mentality is against civil rights on a grand scale.
The blog, Progressives for Ron Paul comes at this from a slightly different angle. Paul cannot be elected except in real coalition with progressives which would mean he modifies his transition plan slightly to allow half of the savings from reductions in the military industrial catastrophe to be transferred to green infrastructure or to the states. Voting Paul in the GOP primary changes the substance of the general election debate. Voting Obama in the Dem. primary changes nothing.
Can we seriously take this David Parkman guy serious?? He had to keep looking down at the notes written for him - clearly he couldn't think for himself and see past the superficial crap he was spewing. That's the problem w/ this country. I think Robin did a great job trying to tell this amateur to grow the heck up. Instead of this David Parkman guy constantly interrupting, he should sit back and listen because clearly he has a lot to learn.
Please please please do not let ron paul even have a chance, he is crazy and he will destroy the country if he was giving full power to do so. He is a fucking fundamentalist idealog who doesnt know how to use reason or critical thinking, all he does is consult his two religions, libertarian-ism and christian fundamentalism without any care for facts or evidence or anything. i really hope I dont have to keep hearing about him from paultards who worship him like jesus.please keep him out of power.
@sluggdiddyyddidgguls It's okay, you can admit that you're confused and maybe a bit resentful that you've been lied to all these years. Research Ron Paul, don't just listen to what the media tells you - the real truth will set you free.
@macahs "It's okay, you can admit that you're confused and maybe a bit resentful that you've been lied to all these years. Research Ron Paul, don't just listen to what the media tells you - the real truth will set you free. "
Private Property? 1, slaves were once considered private property. 2) once you own a business the is open the the PUBLIC you have to serve the PUBLIC! If you want to serve a select group then you are a private club!
@jesushatesyoutoo Bahaha - you really think David wiped the floor with him?!?!? Oh boy. Your comments about private rights are so frigging distorted - go back and do your homework, then quickly erase your comment to avoid any further embarrassment.
@jesushatesyoutoo LOL. And where was there ANY substance in what you just said. I own more books about Ron Paul and his policies then I guarantee you do - so you tell me who has no solutions. You tell me what it is you think you know about Ron Paul, and I'll give you plenty of factual information to shoot you down. It's very easy to do when facts and common sense are on your side.
@macahs Yet he fails to inform the American public about his solutions in a way that is reasonable. I suggest you do that for then since you know more about that than anyone. READ THE COMMENTS ON THIS PAGE and then tell use we think he has solutions!
@jesushatesyoutoo If you genuinely want to have a real conversation about this, please tell me the exact issues you have. I don't have time to read through 200 comments. What do YOU have issue with?? What do YOU not understand or disagree with? And it's okay to disagree, and it's okay to have these conversations ... it means we're (hopefully) learning. We must educate ourselves about what's REALLY happening and think for ourselves, THEN we can make an educated, informed decision.
@jesushatesyoutoo Maybe this would be a good place to get some information? It's brand new as of last night but it's constantly being updated. You can get answers to his policies straight from the source, rather than opinion like you're getting from this guy in the video. h t t p : / / rnpaulbookexcerpts . blogspot . com/
I was a demacrat and now I am all behind Ron Paul I think this guys personal opinion about progressives not switching sides is wrong. RON PAUL 2012. or bust.
@gold95 "Now, that it is clear that you have ZERO arguments or facts to back up your baseless claims,"
LOL!
"except to use argumentum ad populum and other nonsensical conclusions,"
oooooh, the emotionally retarded boy used big scary words!
"move on... You already lost your argument... fool.."
Were you raised by monkeys? Look, you pompous little asshole. Your arrogant bullshit underscores the glaringly obvious: Libertarianism is for adolescent narcissists.
Ron Paul is definitely better than Obama, he stands for the constitution as the prevailing law and the individual as the absolute sovereign. As left-leaning as my politics, I believe now more than ever we need a return to the principles this country was founded on. Ron Paul is the right man for this moment
I wish we could have another democratic primary... we don't want another 4 years of Obama, nor do we want 4/8 years of Mitt Romney or one of the other crazies.
@GJNCA Actually, you would like him. He would spend HALF of the money saved on overseas spending on entitlements and the other half on the deficit. He doesn't believe in ending entitlements, only giving people the option opt out, because he recognizes that people depend on them and you just can't leave them out in the cold. So he'd end the drug war, end the wars overseas and he wouldn't get rid of the entitelments for the poor and the old. So... why not vote for him?
@seaofseeof "Actually, you would like him.... So... why not vote for him?"
There are certain memes among the Paulites, and this is one of the more offensive ones.
Why do you people always assume that the other person simply doesn't understand your viewpoint, and if they did, they'd surely switch to your way of thinking? What makes you think we're not already familiar with him and disagree because his ideology clashes with ours in real life?
David, I really like how you can have a decent and insightful conversation with someone you disagree with. Many talkshow and radio hosts instantly instigate a shouting match, you always stay calm.
@axlwhity "David, I really like how you can have a decent and insightful conversation with someone you disagree with."
I definitely agree, that's one of the main reasons I not only watch this channel but refer others to it on a regular basis.
The other excellent thing about these guys, aside from the fact that they're all very bright, is that they're ideologically consistent - i.e., not sexists. That's a refreshing switch.
In my opinion the greatest problems our country faces are the erosion of our rights, endless needless wars, a government bought off by banks, big corporations, and the military industrial complex. The greatest robbery of the peoples wealth of all time by the already super rich. Obama sold out. All the Republicans running except Ron Paul and Johnson. Are corrupt or religious nuts. Paul is the only choice to fix the foundations of our republic before it all falls apart.
@GJNCA you're full of shit. Why you gotta lie bro? Ron Paul never said he doesn't want a federal government at all, just a very limited one. He believes that the states and local government should be more independent of our federal government. Look how much money our government wastes, why not keep the tax money more locally where officials are more accountable to public scrutiny? All the other Republican candidates are either bought off or batshit crazy. And if you think Obama will change HA!
Voting for Ron Paul has positives and negatives, but it doesn't matter. I don't like this tactic. What if Republicans did it in order to make the most right wing Democrat get the nomination? Or make the Democrat with the least chance of winning get the nomination? It's dirty politics and we don't need it. If we got someone who would fight for his or her beliefs, we wouldn't need tricks like this.
Thomas Jefferson was a liberal. I am more liberal than any Democrat I've ever met. When I was a kid, Democrats were the anti war college kids being shot for demonstrating against the Vietnam war. Now where are the anti war liberals? They are carrying Ron Paul 2012 signs. Sending poor kids out to war is hardly a liberal stance...unless you voted for Obama. In 2007 Dennis Kucinich was asked "If nominated, who would you pick as your running mate?" He replied with no hesitation, Ron Paul. Google it!
@emorganschuster62 Well said. You and I are right on the same page. Despite my fundamental difference of opinion with Libertarianism, and the obnoxiousness of Paul's followers, I'm going to vote for him even if I have to write him in. If he runs with Kucinich as VP I'll not only write him in, I'll campaign for him.
@Tanfeliz You just quoted my heart. I voted Obama in 08 because he was against wars, well COMPLETE LIE. I started to write in RP. If he doesnt get nomination I will WRITE HIM IN in 2012. I've been a Republican my whole life(41) but i will not vote for any other than RP.
@Tanfeliz - The only reason the IMF's "number one weapon" is privitization is because of the ability to endlessly expand the money supply. Market generated privitization would be far better than it is now if we had sound money. No bid contracts to spend public money is another problem with privitization in today's contrived market.
Paul can help us all acheive our vision for the next 4 years. It isn't necessary to agree on every position - this is why we have term limits. You make trade-offs for the upcoming 4 years because unless you yourself are the one running you'll never find a candidate EXACTLY like you. Decide what is MOST important - the devil is in the details for many voters with a candidate like Paul. Let's gel as americans and do what's right for the short term.
@all - in the end we all want is a world of peace and prosperity on all levels. We don't all agree on how to achieve it, but the fact that so many of us have been ferverently motivated to work hard at getting there is a huge leap in human consciousness in my eyes.
@aaronjchandler "in the end we all want is a world of peace and prosperity on all levels. We don't all agree on how to achieve it, but the fact that so many of us have been ferverently motivated to work hard at getting there is a huge leap in human consciousness in my eyes."
Agree wholeheartedly. That's why I'll be writing him in.
@aaronjchandler "she's already considering voting for him don't piss her off!!!"
Do you really think my values are so poorly defined, my viewpoint so utterly shallow, that some miscreant internet troll could swing my position? Am I so completely unbalanced, so vapid, so unprincipled? Do you not get how obnoxious this train of thought is?
5:05 - I wouldn't want people dumping radioactive material on their "private property". Would Ron Paul be opposed to a government regulation preventing that?
@ConstitutionTRUTH - I'm not saying I don't think the market wouldn't do a good job at almost everything. Your argument sounds pretty logical. I'm just pointing out that even progressives can benefit once we stick it to the banks and end the wars. What happens after his term is over is another year's debate but to me we can all get closer to what we want out of the next 4 years with Ron Paul :)
@aaronjchandler "even progressives can benefit once we stick it to the banks and end the wars. What happens after his term is over is another year's debate but to me we can all get closer to what we want out of the next 4 years with Ron Paul :)"
That I do agree with. However, once we put out the fires we need to get him out of there pronto.
@Tanfeliz - I actually somewhat agree with the principal of such an agency if it were redesigned to eliminate special interest's influence. Ron Paul cannot eliminate the EPA - only advocate it's end. Maybe if it ended your legislators could create that new agency that works better.
@aaronjchandler Why create an agency? Allow the market-economy to work like its supposed to. If private firms competed for the business of Environmental Protection, the best would show through in short order, and perhaps from that point the Federal Government can use that company as consultants when needed for environmental legislation in the future.
@ConstitutionTRUTH The myth of privatization is exactly that, a myth. Believe me. I work as a paramedic. We all used to be employed by counties, back in the day. When you work for the county, you work for the citizens who live there. Now we all work for hospitals. Not little local yokel hospitals, either -- big corporate hospital chains. IT'S NOT GOOD FOR THE PEOPLE. Inserting a profit motive is the death knell for the public interest.
@Tanfeliz - The ideal community you and I may like to live in may not actually be that different. I just want to protect our freedom to create that community without over-arching laws dictating how one must live there lives.
@aaronjchandler "The ideal community you and I may like to live in may not actually be that different."
No, they would be. Our fundamental ideologies are diametrically opposed. You want minimal government. I want government to be however big it needs to be to keep the bullies in check.
@Tanfeliz - oh. :) so basically are we are doing is arguing libertarianism. I'm much more accepting of that than saying he won't do a better job in the next 4 years than any of the other republican candidates.
@aaronjchandler Yeah, I get that he's the only honest actor on any ticket. Unfortunately his core ideology directly conflicts with mine, other than that we're both honest actors. There's no chance of me voting for any of the other Republicans. Not at gunpoint.
@Tanfeliz - you tell me where infringment begins and ends - and how do you know that your perception regarding infringment is different than his. I'm sure you don't even know to what degree he deems infringment.
@aaronjchandler "you tell me where infringment begins and ends - and how do you know that your perception regarding infringment is different than his. I'm sure you don't even know to what degree he deems infringment."
Yeah, actually I'm sure my perception of infringement is different than his, because AGAIN, our core ideologies are different. It's not a giant herd of cats, son, it's a community. We thrive together or we all die alone.
@Tanfeliz - the epa allows the corporations to take advantage you as well. Show me a top official at the epa and I'll show you a rich corporate special interest cronie.
@aaronjchandler I agree that corporate America has been allowed to capture our government at the roots. I do believe that Ron Paul is a principled individual who would do his level best to stop that kind of corruption. However, just because we have an owned EPA now doesn't mean we shouldn't establish one that actually works for we, the people.
@Tanfeliz - prosperity would begin to return because the troops would be home spending their money here and we would not be spending 1.5 trillion per year on war. They would not be discharged - they would keep their jobs defending the country, providing disaster relief . And the money they spend will create jobs.
@aaronjchandler That's one of the overlapping parts of my agenda and Ron Paul's. I also would love to see him dismantle the federal reserve and end corporate welfare. Like I said, I'll probably write him in.
@Tanfeliz Hopefully you won't have to write him in. If everyone got behind RP, we could get him into the GOP convention. His numbers are growing and there's no evidence that's going to stop.
@Tanfeliz - you aren't answering my specific question about who would do better in the next 4 years and why? We know you disagree with Libertarianism, but answer the question.
@Tanfeliz - government regulates industry according to the constitution such that another's life, safety or freedom of expression cannot be infringed upon.
@aaronjchandler "government regulates industry according to the constitution such that another's life, safety or freedom of expression cannot be infringed upon."
Is that why Paul wants to dismantle the EPA? Please tell me how all these magical terms are defined for real-life implementation. Where does "infringement" begin and end? How can you tell me I can't hire 10 year olds to work for no minimum wage in my smokestack churning factories? I'll dump my cyanide into any damned creek I please.
@Tanfeliz You have a very common misconception about Ron Paul's policies. He does not want to -dismantle environmental protection...he just wants the federal govt out of it...they fail at EVERYTHING they get their hands on! Have you ever tried to get help from a VA hospital? Or waited in line at your local DMV?
In a market-economy, private companies would compete for the job the EPA did, and anyone with a basic understanding of macroeconomics knows, when firms compete we get a great product
@ConstitutionTRUTH "the federal govt out of it...they fail at EVERYTHING"
That's really not true. I worked for the federal government on a military installation. That shit was tight. I'm not an advocate of the military industrial complex by any means. But our federal government does a lot of things right, including the health insurance of its employees, the post office, and Social Security. You'll never sell me on privatization as a good thing. The IMF's #1 weapon is privatization.
@aaronjchandler "and what candidate would do a better job in helping you acheive your vision for the next 4 years?"
I probably will end up voting for Ron Paul, even if I write him in. While I think he's a nut, at least he's not a bought and paid for corporate chickenhead, and we don't have any other candidate who isn't. I'd like to see him in office long enough to dismantle some bullshit, and not long enough to kill us all.
@Tanfeliz - isn't that what is important? The overall philosophy doesn't matter if the country goes in the direction you'd like to see it go over those 4 years.
@aaronjchandler "who gives a crap about Rand. I asked what he would accomplish in office that you wouldn't like?"
I know, Libertarians hate the whole "emperor is naked" thing. Here's the deal: Ron Paul's entire philosophy, strategy and platform is built on Ayn Rand's philosophical house of cards. It's a pipe dream. It cannot work.
@Tanfeliz - we won't get screwed over by corporations if they aren't allowed to endlessly expand expendatures due to the ability to create infinite amounts of money out of thin air. If you don't like a particular corporation under a paul society they would not have the right to impose themselves on you.
@aaronjchandler "we won't get screwed over by corporations if they aren't allowed to endlessly expand"
Wait now - so which part of Paul's interpretation of the constitution involves government regulating industry? The imaginary part that doesn't exist? What mechanism will Paul use to stop them from doing whatever the hell they want?
@Tanfeliz - I'm just confused as to which specific things Paul will accomplish in office that aren't in line with what you want. Regardless of your disdain for libertarian philosophy
@aaronjchandler "I'm just confused as to which specific things Paul will accomplish in office that aren't in line with what you want. Regardless of your disdain for libertarian philosophy"
Well you know, if I got cancer I probably would lose some weight, so yeah, other than the whole having cancer thing it's awesome.
@Tanfeliz - even if those that opted out still somehow were inelligebly given benefits we'd be able to afford it because we wouldn't have 900+ military bases in 140+ countries.
@Tanfeliz - why shouldn't people be able to opt out? Those benefits can still be paid for if we ended the wars. It's not like one president can undo the entitlement legislation.
Because -- and Ayn Rand herself exemplifies this -- in real life, shit happens. Rand insisted that her cult members all smoke, because it represented "the fire of intellect." Then she got lung cancer. Her book royalties ran out during her lifetime. She collected Social Security and Medicare until she died -- alone with a paid caregiver, I might add, because she was such a hateful cunt that no one stood by her in her time of need.
@Tanfeliz - he doesn't want a million individuals waling around together - he wants us to be free to form any type of community we want to - as long as you don't force your community on others that want something different.
@aaronjchandler Again. The kind of society you envision sounds like a fucking hellscape to me. Since you think it sounds neato, again, I invite each and every one of you who agrees with that nonsense to all move to never neverland together, make a Libertopia, and please just promise to stay there forever.
@Tanfeliz what specifically about his interpretation of the constitution do you disagree with. That is a very vague statement. What specific aspect of laissez faire do you disagree with? A laissez faire approach to foreign policy where we talk and trade with all nations but don't try to topple their democratically elected governments?
@aaronjchandler It's the part where it says in the preamble "provide for the general welfare," you see, which I interpret to mean "make sure our citizens don't get screwed over by corporations. That's what I don't like about laissez faire. I don't see what stops the most powerful entities in Libertopia from raping everybody else to death. How will that work, can you tell me? What will stop the corporations from poisoning every drop of water on earth? Enlighten me.
@aaronjchandler I disagree with his interpretation of the constitution, for one. I disagree that Ayn Rand was worth reading for one second, for two. I disagree that laissez faire is the best way to run America (or any country), for three. I disagree that America should be 300 million individuals all running around together as opposed to a community that works together, for four. I disagree that people should be able to opt out of the safety nets they will inevitably use, for five.
@aaronjchandler Honestly Aaron, I have no desire to impose my values on you or any other Libertarian. I would like nothing better -- and I mean this sincerely -- than for all of you to move to Libertopia together. Do us all a favor. I promise to never, ever visit. Fuck, I'll start the collection to pay for y'alls transportation to wherever you want to go Liberate yourselves. My only condition is that once you leave America, you can't come back.
Since Rand is dead (YAY!) she cannot hold or seek office; therefore no one "supports" her in that respect.
I've seen video of Ron Paul saying he admires Ayn Rand. Ditto his son.
Lastly, if you ever force yourself to spend 10 minutes reading Rand, there will be no denying the pervasiveness of Rand's thought process on Paul's platform. There is no difference except Paul is much less of an asshole than Rand was.
@aaronjchandler "how is freedom insane and narcissistic? I would really love to know."
Because it's completely divorced from the reality of interconnectedness that pervades human society. It's the formalization of "it's my world, you're just living in it." Rand couldn't even live up to her own bullshit ideals.
The 2nd amendment says that you have the right to keep and bear arms - I think that is pretty clear. I'm not pro-gun, but to suggest that the right for a private citizen to have a gun in his home is not a constitutional right is absurd.

I challenge him to intellectual integrity.

@LTCCaroline LOL! they funded many groups in the southern area with campaign donations for segregationist electives. do some research
awsumpossum1 5 months ago
@awsumpossum1 Government must apply justice equally, but individuals are not bound by the Constitution. Individuals are permitted to discriminate if they so choose. Maybe it's important to protect people's right to associate with whomever they want. Are you one of those who believe the Constitution gives us rights and puts restrictions upon the very people who created it? It was written to restrict government, NOT the people. JBS is merely supporting your rights, like them or not.

HELLO!! i am sorry, but do we even consider the man's age? He is 76 years old now, he'd be 80 before his 1st term was over?????? This is just my 1st issue with Mr. Paul. The list goes on & on. He may be anti-war, but LOOK at WHY he is anti-war. Now go on from one issue to the next and tell me WHY i should support him as a female, "over a certain age", hell a female AT ALL!! He is, to say the least, anti-woman, anti-minority, anti, anti, anti..... WHAT is Mr. Paul actually FOR???????? PLEASE!

Tanfeliz 6 months ago
@stephen36305 "I think had the founders intent of the section in the preamble that reads "promote the general welfare" been countless social welfare programs, this is something we would have embarked on from the beginning."
Um, I can count the programs, can't you? Even if you take your shoes off? Are you cognitively disabled or just really bad at math?
And you believe that the founders knew at the time they'd be talking about 300 million multicultural people, huh?
Tanfeliz 6 months ago
Regarding civil rights, Robin neglected to mention the Patriot Act which basically nullifies the 4th Amendment in addition to the other police state policies embraced by the Obama administration. But the host would rather have an academic argument over legislation that was passed over 40 years ago, and disparage Ron through guilt by association. Progressives have become lapdogs for the ruling elite, just like their neocon counterparts.
gjdavis 6 months ago
@gjdavis I don't think guilt by association means what you think it means. Considering that we are dealing with explicit Ron Paul beliefs, it's safe to say the criticism is valid. As is any criticism of Ron Paul's dislike of civil rights advancements in history. Hell, Lawrence V Texas showed us he may have thought sodomy laws were ridiculous but he had no interest in advocating for the law's death. And at the same time, demonstrating that he thinks the right to privacy doesn't exist.
snipzor 6 months ago
@snipzor Guilt by association means exactly what it says. Please see 6:48 of the interview. The host attempts to conflate Paul's views with the JBS and the Constitution Party purely by association and nothing more. Paul is the strongest advocate we have for the single most dramatic advance in civil rights in the history of the planet: it's called the Constitution. I strongly recommend you read the man's own words - which a readily available - before drawing conclusions about his positions.
gjdavis 6 months ago
@gjdavis Politics is a game of association, if you go to certain places, associate with certain people, then their views are somewhat relevant to you. Someone doesn't go to a Bircher rally if they don't have some semblance of similar policy, just as they do not go to an Evangelical rally and give a speech that panders to the attendees if they do not share ideas. And those ideas are not of freedom.
And please, don't cite the constitution in your meaningless platitudes, you look like a joke.
snipzor 6 months ago
@snipzor Preseident Obama was endorsed by the American Communist Party. Shall we condemn him for holding the ACP's views or forwarding their agenda? No. Why? Because it is a cheap, childish rhetorical tactic that does not lead to a meaningful discussion about political ideas and their merits. By your last comment it is clear that you do not understand Ron Paul's positions. Please do yourself a favor and read his book, Liberty Defined, before you make up your mind about his ideas.
gjdavis 6 months ago
@gjdavis Did Obama seek out the endorsement? See, you are comparing two things that in no way have anything to do with each other. Ron Paul could have politely declined an appearance with the Birchers, the Evangelicals, and should have especially said no to appearing in a photo with multiple white supremacists, something that definitely did not help his cause one bit.
And yea, I know his positions, long long ago, I was young. And stupid. I supported Ron Paul and knew enough. Then, I grew older.
snipzor 6 months ago
@snipzor If you are so familiar with Ron's positions, then please tell me why you prefer the status quo of either party to Ron Paul on the issues: foreign policy, economic policy, civil rights, corporatism, the drug war, the size and scope of government. Tell me why you think any of the candidates in either party have a clue (or even care) about what's wrong with this country and how to fix it.
gjdavis 6 months ago
@gjdavis I know his economic policy amounts to deregulate everything, leave it all to the state level, his social policy being the same to leave it all to the states while ignoring the 14th amendment, economic policy again going back to gold backing, the problem of corporatism not really being properly addressed due to the fact that he never actually has explicit solutions. His ideas are right-wing libertarianism, the "leave it to the states" mentality is against civil rights on a grand scale.
snipzor 6 months ago
The blog, Progressives for Ron Paul comes at this from a slightly different angle. Paul cannot be elected except in real coalition with progressives which would mean he modifies his transition plan slightly to allow half of the savings from reductions in the military industrial catastrophe to be transferred to green infrastructure or to the states. Voting Paul in the GOP primary changes the substance of the general election debate. Voting Obama in the Dem. primary changes nothing.

Google it!
emorganschuster62 6 months ago
@emorganschuster62 Well said. You and I are right on the same page. Despite my fundamental difference of opinion with Libertarianism, and the obnoxiousness of Paul's followers, I'm going to vote for him even if I have to write him in. If he runs with Kucinich as VP I'll not only write him in, I'll campaign for him.
Tanfeliz 6 months ago

No, privatization is anti-humanist because it inserts a profit motive, rather than having the core mission be protection of the common wealth.

Maybe if it ended your legislators could create that new agency that works better.
aaronjchandler 6 months ago
@aaronjchandler Why create an agency? Allow the market-economy to work like its supposed to. If private firms competed for the business of Environmental Protection, the best would show through in short order, and perhaps from that point the Federal Government can use that company as consultants when needed for environmental legislation in the future.
ConstitutionTRUTH 6 months ago
@ConstitutionTRUTH The myth of privatization is exactly that, a myth. Believe me. I work as a paramedic. We all used to be employed by counties, back in the day. When you work for the county, you work for the citizens who live there. Now we all work for hospitals. Not little local yokel hospitals, either -- big corporate hospital chains. IT'S NOT GOOD FOR THE PEOPLE. Inserting a profit motive is the death knell for the public interest.

Show me a top official at the epa and I'll show you a rich corporate special interest cronie.
aaronjchandler 6 months ago
@aaronjchandler I agree that corporate America has been allowed to capture our government at the roots. I do believe that Ron Paul is a principled individual who would do his level best to stop that kind of corruption. However, just because we have an owned EPA now doesn't mean we shouldn't establish one that actually works for we, the people.
Tanfeliz 6 months ago
@Tanfeliz - prosperity would begin to return because the troops would be home spending their money here and we would not be spending 1.5 trillion per year on war. They would not be discharged - they would keep their jobs defending the country, providing disaster relief . And the money they spend will create jobs.

@aaronjchandler That's one of the overlapping parts of my agenda and Ron Paul's. I also would love to see him dismantle the federal reserve and end corporate welfare. Like I said, I'll probably write him in.

Tanfeliz 6 months ago
@Tanfeliz You have a very common misconception about Ron Paul's policies. He does not want to -dismantle environmental protection...he just wants the federal govt out of it...they fail at EVERYTHING they get their hands on! Have you ever tried to get help from a VA hospital? Or waited in line at your local DMV?
In a market-economy, private companies would compete for the job the EPA did, and anyone with a basic understanding of macroeconomics knows, when firms compete we get a great product
ConstitutionTRUTH 6 months ago
@ConstitutionTRUTH "the federal govt out of it...they fail at EVERYTHING"
That's really not true. I worked for the federal government on a military installation. That shit was tight. I'm not an advocate of the military industrial complex by any means. But our federal government does a lot of things right, including the health insurance of its employees, the post office, and Social Security. You'll never sell me on privatization as a good thing. The IMF's #1 weapon is privatization.

I'd like to see him in office long enough to dismantle some bullshit, and not long enough to kill us all.

I know, Libertarians hate the whole "emperor is naked" thing. Here's the deal: Ron Paul's entire philosophy, strategy and platform is built on Ayn Rand's philosophical house of cards. It's a pipe dream. It cannot work.
Tanfeliz 6 months ago

@Tanfeliz - we won't get screwed over by corporations if they aren't allowed to endlessly expand expendatures due to the ability to create infinite amounts of money out of thin air. If you don't like a particular corporation under a paul society they would not have the right to impose themselves on you.

@Tanfeliz - even if those that opted out still somehow were inelligebly given benefits we'd be able to afford it because we wouldn't have 900+ military bases in 140+ countries.
aaronjchandler 6 months ago
@Tanfeliz - why shouldn't people be able to opt out? Those benefits can still be paid for if we ended the wars. It's not like one president can undo the entitlement legislation.
aaronjchandler 6 months ago
@aaronjchandler "why shouldn't people be able to opt out?"

@Tanfeliz what specifically about his interpretation of the constitution do you disagree with. That is a very vague statement. What specific aspect of laissez faire do you disagree with? A laissez faire approach to foreign policy where we talk and trade with all nations but don't try to topple their democratically elected governments?
aaronjchandler 6 months ago

@mit26chell "Paul does not support Ayn Rand."
