  • and this goes for those people who say this was terriable and a waste of their time it was based on a true story in mission 21 people lost thier lives, they lost their daughters and sons thier family so im ashamed of you we people of mission and alton are still grieving over thier loss

  • @corncornrocks Agree with you 100%. And I hate when people call this film "depressing." I mean of course it's sad especially with the subject matter. Were they expecting a comedy?

  • Can't believe the negative comments. Just because it doesn't have the generic, predictable, feel-good hollywood ending, it's crap? Sometimes movies have something to say, a comment or criticism to make on society, which this movie does spectacularly. Not all movies are made just to give you fuzzy feelings. Artless blasphemers!

  • Depressing and disgusting. What was the point of making this film?? How horrible - don't watch this! It is a waste of your time - trust me! It is not entertaining, very Candaian - on the crap side

  • @shereecoleman1 you shouldnt say that this movie was based on a real bus accident in mission, texas on september 21,1989 . so if any one should should say this about my hometown im disapointed on you and your mom for not teaching you your manners

  • The ending left me speechless, such a powerful and emotional movie

  • great

  • AMAIZING !

  • I'm interested in this film cause, it received 100% in rotten tomatoes (a super-rare grade) It looks like an excellent film though. Atom Egoyan is brilliant

  • oooohhh i want to see this... the trailer makes it look like someone pooped on someone's doorstep or something... a real who-done-it!

  • This was THE most boring, overrated,,,,complete disappointment of a film. Seriously, why hype it up so much? Total waste of time.

  • @purspice As a matter of fact it's no blockbuster and no shining-hero-movie. But, if you'd be an intellectual being, you would consider this film excellent.

    Right? ;p

  • @TeutonicRage Nope. This film sucked. Big time. Like Calciumkid85, the only reason i watched it was because of the high review in rotten tomatoes & I was thoroughly disappointed. I see how it would appeal to a parent because of the emotion involved with the loss of the children & the distance between father & daughter etc but it didn't do anything for me.

  • @purspice Maybe you should watch "The Ice Storm" then. I found that film excellent too.

  • @TeutonicRage Hmmm...I'll add it to the list. But the list is quite long at the moment.

  • @purspice I'm making a list right now!! :D

  • @purspice its about the lie the girl in whell chair told its a political movie

  • @purspice It sucked because you're not a parent? Good one.

  • @TeutonicRage AWESOME COMMENT TY

  • @purspice the visual aspects its not a novel

  • is the movie like the book? i want to see it but if it differs from the book alot i might not want to.

  • i just finished reading the book and now i want to watch this.

  • Probably the most prescient movie about the lives Americans lead these days. No one comes closer to unearthing what is wrong in the United States than Russell Bank's book or Atom Egoyan's movie. The most disturbingly beautiful ever made.

  • although this trailer makes the story sound so cliche, its hardly so. Its an amazingly beautiful story~

  • looks rather dull and boring though

  • @moviedude22 i concur

  • i was @ work SAS shoes in brownsville. no customers, all 5 of us were goofing off. someone walked in and told us what had just happened. We got our radio and were completely in shock. The ladies were affected more visibly then us men but only visibly.

it was a terrible day. and we all hurt for alton and the children that never made it home that day. The KRGV Special Report is on YouTube for anyone who is interested. I can't believe it's been that long. those hours are still fresh in my mind.

  • i didn't picture the main character this way. I thought she would be fat...

    I love the book though

  • This trailer sucks and i'm so sick of that narrator.

  • It's based on a true story. I live close to where the actual accident occured, although I wasn't born when it took place, but still, everyone knows the story. Alton, Texas...twenty years ago today, 21 children lost their lives. Unlike the movie, here it doesn't snow, and people lock their doors at night.

  • the story is about sam dent and its in ontario and it was only 14 kids its a book im reading it for school

  • But it was based on a true story you doob...our true story! I know it's a book., and can't books be based off of something that actually happened? Please look things up before posting comments that make you look uneducated.

  • Look up 'KRGV alton', it should be the first video, tell your teacher about it, extra credit maybe? Sorry for being a bit pissy.

  • The movie is magnificent. I'm afraid this trailer doesn't do it justice.

  • "I'm really sorry to come over unannounced like this. But it is important that we talk. I'm a hobbit."

  • that really made me laugh!

  • Looks boring.

  • Bilbo baggins =/= detective

  • too sad of a movie.

  • Amores Perros is worse.

  • book is better.

  • Out of the darkest blue... comes the lightest green.

It's a pure juwel. And the music of Mychael Danna is a masterpiece of sadness and grieving. It changed my life, coze i've discovered first the music, abandonned album at my workplace... and the sound and the story...then the movie, gave me the will, the desire to go to Canada!

    It was back in 99'.

(but please, what's that stupid off voice!)

  • They shoulda got Don LaFontaine to do the voiceover.

"In a world where everyone feels like family...one MAN will change their lives FOREVER! Sweetness first...bitterness forever after. IAN HOLM, The SWEET HEREAFTER!"

  • Awe man such a great movie!

  • This could be one of the extremely rare circumstances where the film is even better than the book.

  • Just finished the book a few moments ago. Cannot wait to see the film.

  • I'm reading this book right now, I love it!

  • can you tell me whats the name plz...

and is this the story of what happend in texas of the bus accident?? 20 years ago

  • yes.

  • A MASTERPIECE.....!!!!

  • @cryingser I AGREE

  • Such an amazing movie. When I saw it in the movie theatre - waaaaaay back when - and the part where the bus crashes into the frozen lake, it felt like everyone in the audience wanted to jump out of their seats and help! Beautiful movie, excellently acted, and such a scarring view of father/daughter relationships and the truths we're ashamed to admit.

  • when that ice cracked I and the whole audience gasped. It was devastatingly shot, not cheap and exploitative like it might've been.

It reminds me of watching the WTC collapse from my window--helpless, surreal, mind-numbing.

  • @jhutch524 What an Amazing comment TY I agree

  • only if you're an idiot...

  • where the truth lies is his best shot..I am waiting to see Adoration

  • the best movie of Egoyan's I think where the truth lies but I haven't watched Adoration yet.

  • This is an incredible film, one of the most beautiful and underrated of the past few decades. But yeah, corny trailer.

  • One of the most underracted films in 1997 and Sarah Polley brings one of the most underracted performances in last years

  • One of the most underrated movies I have ever come across, a gem.

  • The best film of the 1990's. Marvelous and brutally honest story, excellent acting, beautiful soundtrack. Those are just a few of the words, that describe this film. It's a shame that it did not receive the attention it should have.

  • one of the most amazing films i have ever seen

  • This is one of the best movies ever made. Scene by scene, Atom Egoyan blows the viewer away. He takes a cliche-ridden genre - the lawyer as finder of truth - and turns it inside out. The plot is less important (This is not A Time to Kill) than the relationships. Egoyan is the ultimate observer and his dramas play like satire without the cheap jokes.

  • Courage, your word, it didn't come, it dosen't matter,

Courage, my word, it didn't come, it dosen't matter

Courage, it couldn't come at a worse time.

    Weird hearing a Hip cover.

  • (cont.) Whoever made this trailer was obviously trying to "sex it up" for audiences, but they did a disservice to the movie. I bet Egoyan was pissed.

  • This trailer SUCKS. It's really misleading as to what the movie's about. The movie is a sad, meditative story of the many ways in which we can lose our children, to death or to addiction. This trailer makes it look like the lawyer is out trying to find the truth to some sinister deed that's been covered up. Nope -- he's just trying to find someone to sign up for a lawsuit.Without giving too much away, one of the whole points of the movie is that sometimes there really are accidents.

  • I liked this film so far. We are finishing it tomorrow in my film class.

  • Interesting and disturbing film.

  • @aaldere1 disturbing?
