Unless you're studying Western Classical music in China, you'll surely have some pitch problem just like an American would be have when trying to sing Indian or Chinese classical music, Jane I think intends to bring to the world her Chinese Music Culture. Jane's head/falsetto register is sweeter and she's got a well controlled "dolphin whistle" Jane can go and change register faster and seamlessly , that makes Jane's voice more interesting than Regine's..

in my opinion this is regine's best live performance. it is perfect. from her vocal prowess to her mannerism and facial expression, just perfect.
I could have wished this happened in a much bigger event where the whole world would see her in this magnificent moment, yet this happened only in a weekly sunday noontime show. but then again...regine proved that no matter how small or big of a show, if you're great, YOURE GREAT, regardless!

But I think what Jane's handlers intention is to market Jane in the western world as a "China-made" artist. bringing with her the "Eastern culture of China" As opposed to Asian singers like Charice who is marketed as an Asian artist transformed by Western . culture and singing music of the West.

She also could sing in Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese. Actually she has topped the Chinese chart 15 times. And considering that the Chinese market all over the world is more than 5 times larger than the US market that could translate to significantly more than Regine's record sold..

She has a profound mind and an artist's soul. She had worked with almost all of the great Asian singers & international artists like Andrea Bocelli,Kitaro, Lee Hom, Craig Williams to mention a few. Even Statesmen like the Prime Minister of Japan recognize her great talents.

@sadtruth666 Just a mere change of key of a song does'nt mean originality in your interpretation of a song. And so with mere duration change in a note unless you use effective melismas, trills etc..It's still mimicry if you just modulate the song without altering the horizontal spacing and vertical intervals between the notes or with out dramatically changing the rhythmic tempo etc..of the covered song. Regine has shallow interpretations of her songs.

Unless you're studying Western Classical music in China, you'll surely have some pitch problem just like an American would be have when trying to sing Indian or Chinese classical music, Jane I think intends to bring to the world her Chinese Music Culture. She's not the usual, stereotyped Asian singer imitating a famous American singer's style and accent.

@sadtruth666 I agree regines modal register (chest voice) is probably higher than Jane (G#5?), but because Regine is a poor resonance singer, her voice is duller and lacks color and is sometimes guilty of oversinging (shouting). Jane's head/falsetto register is sweeter and she's got a well controlled "dolphin whistle" Jane can go and change register faster and seamlessly , that makes Jane's voice more interesting than Regine's..

@sadtruth666 Jane looks up to Mariah as her biggest Model and covers most of her songs during her amateur years. She's been labeled as "The Dolphin Princess/Queen" for her sweet whistle registers. But now singing professionally she's finding her own identity. In fact she 's singing mostly Chinese songs in her album ( some are even classical Chinese) I believe young aspiring Asian singers can learn many valuable things from Jane in their road to success.
