  • cooked quinoa looks like little condoms

  • I just want to say how great and informative you are! I have watched many cooking clips on YouTube for healthy recipes and you are by far my favorite!!! Thank-you, your the real deal, food network for sure! God bless you :)

  • The Quinoa I buy says to cook it using 3 parts water to 1 part Quinoa

  • I am currently cooking this for the first time. According to the directions 1 cup quinoa to 1 1/2 cup water simmered for 30 minutes.....but its been ten minutes and all the water is gone.......OH THEY LIED AT THE MARKET......adding half a cup more water. Thanks danispies!

  • You're pretty cool, you seem very comfortable on camera and I found this video quite informative!

  • its really good, but i cant stand the smell, does anyone know a way to cook quinoa in a way where it doesnt smell or teast like it does?... let me know!

  • Just found this stuff today, looking up superfoods :-) Do you think you can cook it like a pilaf?

  • Wow. 11mac11s is that comment ever rude.

  • This video is great... thanks! I think organic sprouted quinoa is even tastier than the brands displayed! I just posted a bunch of international recipes on my blog if interested... (TasteItMyWay on Blogger) regards Chef, Gary

  • I tried a new quinoa recipe the other day. Basically you boil it with celery and carrots and fresh coriander, then serve it with a dressing made from olive oil, red wine vinegar, fenugreek sage salt and pepper. DELICIUOS!

  • good vid! very informative. good idea about keeping some as reserve for other meals and soups, etc.

  • I love quinoa. I always cook it with chicken broth instead of water, then put carrots cut into small pcs and then dried cranberries. Delicious...even my picky children love it.

  • Youre the best!

  • Quinoa is an Incan super grain originated from PERU, highly regarded in that culture for its nutritional benefits. Just a quick fact, Thanks :)

  • Thank you for this! Very helpful!

  • but 100 grams of quinoa is ALOT... people say it has a lot of protein but it doesnt hve more then couscous or any other thing.. that is so small

you can truly eat 100 gram of quinoa or any sort of small thing becuase when its cooked it BECOMES A LOT

unless you make it for different meals.. also these stuff is expensive atleast here i live.. its way more expensive then pasta which has fortified protien and more expensive then meat pr pound

  • Thanks! Definitely gonna go and pick up a box!

  • I've watched your spaghetti and butternut squash videos, and now this one. I can tell you, without a doubt, that you're the best youtube video tutor on healthy foods. Thank you so much for helping me discover all these wonderful and nutritious meals!! :)

  • You don't even have to cook it. Try Sprouting it. It is a very quick sprout! I sprout mine and make Tabouli out of it. Also, the red kind makes a nice Bell pepper stuffing.

  • IMPORTANT To maximize your nutritional intake from quinoa, as with all grains, nuts and legumes and especially if you are using it for holistic treatments, it needs to be soaked to reduce phytic acid. I can't seem to add links to websites but just Google it for the whys and hows.

  • I'm going to embed this video in my blog! Super informative and full of personality!

  • Im eating this now! I added mushy peas just to de-bland it a bit and add more protein. And I admit I added a little butter this time, but It really doesn't make much difference, so dont bother if your thinking of it!

  • Quinoa is a Native American food. I just loved how Asians used to brag how great rice was compared to wheat and how rice built their empires so now it is Native Americans turn to brag and how it built the Inca Empire and better than rice.

  • I live in Canada, don't eat much meat, so I rely on quinoa as a major protein source/staple of my diet. I like it with Briggs' Amino Acids or soy sauce, mainly as a side dish. I really love the slightly nutty flavour and texture. There is no difference in flavour between the white/ivory kind (that i normally eat) and the red type. Enjoy!

  • I never thumbs up any videos, but I must say this video was so concise, informative, and light-hearted, that I just could not resist give this video the well deserved thumbs up!

    Off to make my Quinoa!

    :)

  • Thank you for this vid! Now I will start growing Quinoa in my garden. How many plants do I need to get say ten Kilo?

  • @silencerainbows A huuuuge amount! I assume you're joking lol. Quinoa is very labour intensive to harvest and grows best at VERY high altitudes in poor soil. But if you DO grow any, please let me know how it goes

  • I used it in stuffed peppers last night in place of the rice. It was wonderful and low glycemic! No guilt!

  • i bought it today cook it loved the taste and texture, experimented with homemade spicy salsa.

    Not tooth cavity friendly lol.

  • I love quinoa I make it twice a week

  • Quinoa is a Spanish word and so it should be pronounced kee-no-ah, like all latinos do. Since many market employees are latino, I would stick to that pronunciation to reduce the snickering behind your back ;)

  • @smylzk oh i've been pronouncing it as kin-oh-ah

  • @vonsusername So did I, I think it's natural to pronounce it that way! Until a hippie at the co-op corrected me lol

  • @smylzk I think it's Quechua.

  • Hey thanks for the great video!

I watched it while I was cooking my Organic Quinoa for the first time.

  • I made this today and it tastes a lot like steel cut oatmeal. I chilled mine and mixed in some seaweed and asian dressing. Thanks Daniel.

  • make sure you dont get it inside your nose!! it sucks,,,, lol

  • Your channel is amazing, it's really helpful for someone who's switching to a healthier diet but doesn't know where to start. Subscribed!

  • quinoa is pretty good but i find it doesn't keep as well in the fridge as rice does. since it's so quick and simple to prepare, just do it fresh each night

  • Mmm my favorite ! great as a desert too with apples & cranberries :-)

    Have a nice & healthy day . Peace .

  • Press 8 to Rap video...

  • why rinse?

  • @ConnellyPhoto Starch .

  • Youre a sexy quinoa teacher...

  • @cceessaarr234 You need to holster your stupid boner.

  • @nirvgorilla Who r u? Her husband? BTW iI said SEXY, not WHORE...

  • The box of Quinoa she is using is "PRE WASHED" as in she didn't need to wash it before cooking. However bulk quinoa should always be washed.

  • i didn't know the mom from modern family did this too.

  • i have this for breakfast love it staple food for me

  • Fantastic. Thank you!

  • Is Quinoa called sorgo also? Where can I get quinoa seeds?

  • Im from San Miguel de Allende, Gto, Mexico, Is Quinoa calle Sorgo? If it is so, I can get sorgo from Celaya, .... if not, where can I get QUINOA seeds, i want to grow it in my garden.

  • Most health food markets , i.e. whole foods, wild by nature, sell this in bulk. Its much more economical if you can purchase this way. I only buy 8 oz. at a time as I live alone

  • i eat some quinoa every day and beat the shit out of anyone who opposes me

  • Wow, I'm a vegetarian and have problems with blood sugar. This was so informative and delivered clearly.

  • Very informative

  • Thank you!! No soaking needed if it's a seed?

  • Super informative and you're super sexy to watch. Lots of knowledge. Big brain! JK!

  • its not pronounced Kin-ooh-ah

its correct pronunciation is KEY- NO- AH

  • $4 for a small box of quinoa?????? the government sure doesn't want us to eat healthy lol!

  • where would u go to buy like a big bag or medium/big box of quinoa ..i bought some at walmart but it was a small box $4 smh

  • Excellent video. Lots of info.

  • My boss made this for our xmas party, and she wanted me to try it!!! I put a tiny bit on my plate and inhaled it as if I didn't for a looooong time!!!! The next day I went to trader joe and got a box. I watched tons on vids on this and yours was the best one!!! Thanks for all the info, totally subscribed and can't wait to see your other vids as well.

  • prepare like rice. i do a great egg fried quinoa!

  • @LAWAGO Great idea!!!! I'm gonna have to give it a try ;)

  • Hi Dani, I noticed you mentioned to cook it the way rice is cooked. Therefore, can I use my automatic electric rice cooker to cook quinoa?? I always use an automatic rice cooker to cook rice and do not know how to cook perfect rice using a regular pot. Thanks.

  • Just found out about this, Gonna prepare this tomorrow, sounds great!

Thank you for helping people stay healthy :)

  • @807D14M0ND5 Anytime! Hope you enjoy:)

  • @danispies I made it yesterday Yum! its very nice with some roasted peppers

  • @danispies Quinoa Gluten free supergrain! more americans should eat it, it would help with obesity crisis!

  • @danispies Its to bad we live in a stubborn brainwashed society that lives on Gluten, dairy, sugar and pharmaceutical positions.

  • Great video!

What would you recommend for a vegetarian looking for a complete protein.

QUINOA or HEMP? something else? Thanks

  • Is there a difference between how different coloured quinoa tastes?

  • @theNeverangel In my experience and opinion... there is no difference in taste. Has anyone had a different experience?

  • I cooked my first quinoa tonight.. it's awesome.

  • so I have a question: if you dont rinse the Quinoa, will it have a soapy taste to it?

  • very 'informational videoes ... very nice ...go Dani !! ..

  • thanks for the video and the info

  • i like the way u broke everything down so simply lot of info 5*

  • @mushroomcloud420 You are very welcome!

  • @mushroomcloud420 So great to hear:) Happy that you found it helpful!

  • i saw show food tv: 1 + 1/4 cups water and 1/2 cup rinsed quinoa...microwave 9 min on high let rest 2 min fluff up and use....

  • I forgot about the quinoa, and just wanted to eat her

  • Raw quinoa is coated by saponin, a compound which serves to protect the seeds from being consumed by birds due to its bitter taste. The saponin is what causes the soapy residue (sapo = soap in Latin) during rinsing. From what I've read, the quinoa that we get in North America has the coating removed during processing, but I've bought brands that frothed up during rinsing and others that didn't. The though of eating it raw isn't terribly appealing.

  • The quinao I used came in a box and didn't sub-up when I rinsed it off. Could it have been pre-washed?

  • @ChickenWingChampion Yes... often times it is pre-washed!

  • can you have it raw?

  • @cheeseybred some people soak it in water then sprout it,but i can't imagine it would digest very well.

  • @cheeseybred Technically quinao is a seed and I would imagine birds would eat it raw but I never have and I don't think I would recommend it!

Does anybody out there have any insight this??

  • Dani this was great. Thank you! Also, I agree with d63sx5. You are a great salesperson without even trying. I am ready to pull the Quinoa out of my cupboard and starting cooking!

  • And it sprouts well, if you're not into cooking, or not always into cooking. raw raw, sis'....

  • It seems to be very nutrient dense and full of minerals, protein,...

Would it be possible to fast on this for a week? Good idea? Bad idea?

  • @Phyle9 You can't fast on this or any food, to be very specific. Fasting is going without food, only water. This kicks off an extreme detox process, so it's best to keep the organs of elimination wide open for business so to avoid auto-intoxication. But going raw vegan & nutrient-dense organic will set off a gentler detox process, which may be better to start with than a full-blown fast. Look up 'juice feasting' for another way to strengthen the body so it can take a fast more easily.

  • @reforest4fertility Yeah I did a 40 day water only (I took a multivitamin once a day) fast once. It stared as a 3 day fast and I kept going. The fast was for religious reasons. The detox was amazing (scary) and I lost 40 lbs. I would not recomend doing such a radical fast unless you have a good reson to do one.

  • great video! you should be a salesperson! i stumbled upon this video and headed straight to get some!

  • I love Quinoa...It's easy and so good.

I like to add some pesto to it with steamed vegetables, very filling.

    Love the video!

  • Quinoa is not absolutely delicious on its own. It must be mixed with something-unless you like wet cardboard.

  • Great videos! I use several of your vids in my health talks and blog entries. Thanks!

  • @drtouchinsky FYI, the blog is drtouchinsky com

  • have been dying to try quinoa but had no idea what to do with it. this is informative. not fun or special but good to have on hand. maybe I will actually cook the box I've had in my pantry for months. I can do it...

  • @oliviaolas I had some today for the first time...cooked it with diced red pepper and topped it off with a wee bit of olive oil and a mild wine vinegar. It assumes much of the flavoring you cook it with. I was pleasantly surprised....doing research on some new foods that will enhance my diet and training....this quinoa is a God-send! :)

  • my boyfriend is asian so he used to eat rice with everything and I mean everything! He switched to brown rice b/c it was healthier, but I really don't like it. Thankfully my mom introduced me quinoa and both my boyfriend and I love it....so now we eat it with every meal we have. The only down side is that it's pricey in our supermarket!

  • La Quinoa tambien es Peruana la comian desde el tiempo de los Incas, Cultura desarroda en el Perú...¡¡¡Maravilloso Perú!!!.

  • La quinoa la mejor comida Boliviana

  • i love you, you're great

  • Best vid on Quinoa I've seen so far:

    1) most information

    2) lively, personable, and not dumbed down.

    3) Are you married?

  • Great info about quinoa. I would just soak it a little bit prior the cooking process. I find quinoa delicious with plenty of raw organic butter, salt, pepper, olives and chopped dill. Yummy.

  • kinky pants !

  • @eternal000sunshine

never seen pants like these before.

    Is that a cooking show???

  • what section of the grocery store can I find quinoa? I searched for it near the rice and couscous and couldn't find it.

  • I couldn't find it in the regular grocery store, but I went to a Whole Foods store and found it. Just go to any Whole Foods, Health Food, or Organic grocery store and they should have it. Just ask whoever is working there, and they'll point it out.

  • This video is FABULOUS!!! Thank you I just bought some from a Farmer's Market and wondered how to cook it.

  • awesome

  • FYI hemp seeds are also a complete protein.

  • @topsy420 yea.. and hemp seeds taste better too.. plain quinoa cooked in water tastes like wet cardbord :(

  • Just cooked up a batch using your technique. I had bought this particular bag of organic quinua in La Paz, Bolivia 2 years ago. Nothing on the bag was in English. After cooking it, I added some sea salt, a handful of walnuts and some grated parmesan/romano cheese. Awesome!

  • Thank you for your close up of the finished product and stating I should be looking for a white ring around each seed. That is the detail that a real cook needs. Thanks a lot. Now I am off to cook my 1st batch of quinoa!!

  • Tastes like broccoli leaves. Had it for the first time tonight with garlic, onion, mint, olive oil, basil. Rice cooker. Tasted really good actually, less starchy and bland than rice.

  • What does it taste like?

  • I am glad to be able to find quinoa at the grocery stores here in the USA. I used to eat it a lot in my native Peru. Quinoa is very nutritious.

  • I noticed that quinoa is very high in starch, even higher than potatoes. I've heard of people advising against potatoes because of it's high starch content, how is it that this is never mentioned for quiona?

  • The fact that it's high in "starch" is relatively unimportant. All that means is that it is more filling meaning you can have less of it and get more energy out of it (e.g. maybe more calories per gram). BUT that doesn't subtract from its benefits like its high protein. Not only that, but it is lower on the glycemic index than potatoes. Potatoes, as she said, spike your blood sugar. Quinoa does NOT. So like I said, the starch level doesn't matter, it only means don't eat TOO much Quinoa.

  • From what I understand starch is what converts into sugar making foods high in starch, also high on the glycemic index. Potatoes has less starch per gram compared to quinoa.

  • Wow really? Very good point.

  • When I checked the glycemic index online though, it was lower for quinoa. So I'm probably missing something.

  • what an awesome point..would you suggest that someone should avoid it if you have tons of weight to lost?

  • You'd have to ask a professional nutritionist, since I'm unsure of the answer. My gut feeling tells me to keep the serving portions low at the very least.

  • I didn't think I was kinky, but I'd actually like to be Dani's sex slave.

  • Dani is Hot!!!!

I mix quinoi, barley, white rice, minced farmer sausage, ginger, garlic, chili powder, tomato, cumin, star annise, white vinegar, onion. This makes a kinda paella meets massala pilaf.Very tasty!!!

  • Has anyone ever cooked it with low sodium chicken broth? (I was thinking about grilling some S/B-less breast and serving it along with some fresh mixed veggies.)

  • I always cook it with chicken broth, much tastier than just water IMO.

  • I make fried quinoa instead of fried rice.

  • I ADORE Quinoa. I eat it every night almost because it is a grain but it's a protein too. It has it all and won't raise blood sugar like a bread. I feel like I'm eating a carb but I'm not. It's the BEST totally the best. I am a Quinoa addict!

  • Quinoa is not the only grain or plant derivative that is a complete and good protein source. There is also buckwheat, hemp seeds, and amaranth. I just bought a bunch from nutsonline. It's especially great if your vegetarian and trying to gain muscle mass.

  • Could you make it in a rice cooker?

  • Yeah. Same time and water proportions as white rice. At least according to the wikipedia page.

  • I just made it tonight for dinner, it was delicious. And yes, it's true. When you cook rice, it's 2/3 water, and 1/3 quinoa.

  • Thank you so much!!! Finally, someone to break it down quick and easy. I think I'll amp mine up with a little vegetable broth... some herbs and lemon juice... yum!

  • She is totally right about this stuff. i never cook anything but yesterday I made this stuff for the first time. I am sure I did it wrong, but it still tasted great anyways! It totally helps you lose weight too, a must eat for anybody.

  • Thanks for the video. You can also put it in a metal strainer and steam it after it comes to a boil. It comes out fluffier and great with salad;)

  • Thanks for the video, I've never heard of Quinoa but now I'm going to be eating it like crazy, so easy to cook and good for you to! Thanks again!

  • Quinoa is awesome!

Hemp, or flaxseed oil, a little tamari, tomato, avocado, cucumber, pepper, sprouts= YUM!

  • Good job! I enjoyed that. I'm thinking of cutting out gluten and this stuff looks like a good start.

  • I think we need to have the poop talk again.

  • I completely agree!

  • "I think we need to have the poop talk again."

    I agree! haha

  • @frege666 great comment wow...thumbs up...haha wow....great comment hahahahahahaha

  • sounds great and I will certainly be buying and trying some, thanks

  • not true.

  • Great stuff! Quinoa is. BUT DON'T USE WATER!!!!! Instead, use Chicken, Beef, or Vegetable broth. YUMMMMO!

  • i saw a video at my dr.'s office and will be buying it tomorrow

  • I'm doing P90X and it says on my Diet Plan to eat 1 cup of quinoa, does that mean 1 cup uncooked or 1 cup cooked(~1/2 cup since it expands)?

  • I think one cup of uncooked quinoa is approximately 195 grams or two servings. You should check with the nutrition plan for p90x to see whether you want a single or a double serving.

  • wow! thank you!

i've just started using quinoa in my diet and this was one of the most helpful videos i have found on the tube ;)

  • wow, thanks!

  • can you sprout them and eat the sprouted quinoa?

  • Comment removed

  • Quinao is very high in Omega-6 fats and low in Omega-3 fats. Thats is an inflammatory combo. So I guess you should balance your quinoa intake with flax seed (ground) which is high in Omega-3.

  • What's your reference on this statement?

  • HEY LADY

    HEY

  • lol

  • mmmm quinoa... the peruvians knew what was up.

  • excellent...now i know how to cook quinoa...thank you!

  • great video on a wonderful food. Some pointers for what its worth:

    1. get a tripod for the camera man

    2. get a lav mic to reduce the echo

  • wow shes gorgeous
