  • You can tell by the amount of Free Tibet trolls that revealing their great leader for the fraud that he is really pisses them off to no end.

That there is so many and they all have the same idiotic messages suggests to me the Dalai Lama hires about a dozen guys and these cretins' sole job is pretend like real people and spam youtube with their propaganda on every video related to Tibet, Lamas or China. Tell me how this isn't EXACTLY like scientology again??

  • it's really sad to see how disrespectful people can get just to put good people down. Have you even truly researched your facts to accuse him of such things? Discern your facts before you destroy someone's reputation. Not because its posted in the net or in the television that it is accurate of correct. Media has the power to alter reality and sadly for this one... they are trying to destroy the image of a great teacher. Have tolerance and respect with other religions not just your own.

  • yak butter tea is good a little salty but good

  • MIND CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • didn't Pol Pot want to turn Combodia into a peasent culture

  • over a million tibetans have been killed by the chinese since the invasion in 1950... so fuck you penn and teller! you have no idea the suffering brought upon the tibetan people by communist china. tibet was a primitive country because of its lack of contact with the outside world, and as westerners we ignorantly judge cultures based only on their material wealth. tibet could have and should have entered the modern age without one of the most blantant and brutal genocides in history

  • The guy is a retard. Seriously, his IQ is about 80.

  • I like many of Penn and Teller's episodes, but this one is a bit skewed. The Lama Lama actually addressed this stuff - he said yeah, it was a shitty systems and needed reform. He was in the middle of doing that but the Chinese took it over in 1951. They make it seem like the Dalai Lama's the one who started up that system. You'll find other videos online of Chinese border patrol shooting people in the head as they try to cross from Tibet in Nepal. Historic slaves vs Modern.

  • @dadoody The world's biggest and longest running slave holder in the name of religion to reform? If anything, the Chinese government did that for him while still keeping him as the religious leader as he should been. Then came the act like Louis XIV of France or old British monarchs - changing his mind after. He felt like he was the last emperor 2.0 and failed at restoring absolute rule. This Buddhist compassion you hear him talking about only applied to the top 1% elite of the caste system.

  • @ Animemusic77

If Tibetans were serfs or slaves they wouldn't have risen up many times after the communist invasion which began in 1949-50.

    .

Free China from Slavery Factories in 2011.

    .

Free Tibet and China from backward communist party polices in 2011.

  • I remember reading this on reason.com or some other shit, but the big problem is that the source of the info was the Chinese government. Atheist blindly believing other atheist? Color me surprised.

  • The Chinese are going to eat this up

  • Penn and Teller is for idiots who don't take the time to do their own research. All Penn does is pander toward those who desire controversy and strife before anything else. Penn's an idiot, and makes a living by tricking other idiots into thinking they are wiser by simply watching his trash of a show. His show is superficial at best, and is all about making controversy. Those who believe him obviously can't think on their own, and believe the first thing that comes to ear.

    Bullshit!!!

  • I'd like to also add that the monasteries of Tibet functioned as schools and universities where not only religion but art, culture, and what passed at the time for science was taught. They were the only means for anyone to get a decent education, and reportedly almost every family had a son or daughter in a monastery, at least toward the end of Tibet's existence. If that is what the Tibetan theocracy provided, was that theocracy really so bad? They overcharged for it, but they provided learning.

  • Now, this isn't fair. This makes it seem as if the current Dalai Lama personally instituted all these horrible human rights abuses, when these were all ancient laws enacted by lamas and nobles in the distant past. The current and former Dalai Lamas actually tried to institute modernising policies, such as ending the death penalty and bringing electricity. And most historical Dalai Lamas didn't actually live long enough to enact any laws.

This bit of the episode was bullshit.

  • oh please,...this spin doctor obviously likes militant chinese government that have no respect for civil rights and wants to keep tibet under lockdown and their control.

  • 3. Much of the "bad things" that where said about the Dalai Lama either happened when he was young. He became the Dalai Lama when he was 4, and acted as the Spiritual and Political leader since then. In the early years, he had little control over his country, and this is when "bad things" happened. Much of it is also Propoganda put out by the Chinese.

  • 2. Tantric Buddhsim (which only makes up about 8% of Buddhists worldwide), is very different from the other branches, such as the New Land branch, the most common, or Zen Buddhism, the kind that hippies follow, is not neccesarily about non-violence. It is instead about teaching the way of the Buddha, and in doing so enabling all people to reach "nirvana". Although violence creates Karma that produces more re-births, It can be used to prevent more violence.

  • There are a few facts about this that Pen & Teller convieniently left out:

    1. In Buddism, particularily Tantric Buddism, Monks live by strict codes of conduct (256 rules), and are entirely supported by the leity. So, it is not suprising that the few Monks (only about .00001% of the pop.) live in relative luxary, as they only meditate and study, but in return, they must act as so called "Spheres of Merit" for the Leity. In other words, they provide the leity with spiritual peace.

  • penn and teller have a way of distorting the truth this is not the first we need to see them for who they really are

  • What the? What do they care? Lets have a look at Tibet under Chinese Comie-ism. Far more brutal and far more devastating than anything the Dalai Lama could ever come up with.

  • @MrOphachew

It's really not.. China is not communist, and if you watch this oc it is far far far better for the people especially the poor under chinese rule.

  • @403766 --China is just not as Communinist as it once was under Moa. Take a close look at Tibet when it was under Chinese rule when Moa was still around.

  • @MrOphachew Who is Moa?

  • @HioPojac --Mao Tse Tung and you know it.

  • @MrOphachew Yeah, I guess I did know it. I just wanted to confirm that you were talking about Mao, but you wrote 'Moa' twice in your post, so you could also have been referring the flightless bird.

  • @MrOphachew ---"flightless bird?" maybe the flightless point of the video clip cause it ain't gonna fly.

  • @MrOphachew Well there's were flightless birds in New Zealand called the 'moa', they are now extinct. They resembled emus, but I believe they were larger.

Also, yes this clip seems a little spurious, don't you agree?

  • 14 slave owners

  • 30% of American now believes 911 was an inside job. Gess what the owener of the WTC made a 2000% profit from the 911 attack: few month early he filed a request for controll demolision, but couse of tossic subtance in the building its request was denied. To desmantal the two tower it wuold cost him $12.000.000.000. Why pay so mach if a terrorist give you the opportunity to use controll demolition. A mach chiper solution.

  • @chessdominos A much larger percentage of American's believe in a fictitious sky fairy, but that doesn't mean they are right :) Please give a respected source for your claim... I'm not saying it's untrue, I'm just awaiting real evidence.

  • @cakeisnotanumber Hi Cake is not a number The bulk of "real" evidence are been destroy not but terrorist but the amministration Bush witch only after 3 weeks shipped all the frame steel to Egypt to be melted. We know that for other disasters the wreckages are kept for more than 7, 12 or more years. Why such hurry!

  • @cakeisnotanumber A very rispectable source can be find by searcing the google video called:

9/11 Blueprint for Truth presented by Architect Richard Gage, AIA

  • @cakeisnotanumber In this video the architect Richard Gage (founder of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth) presents a watertight case for controlled demolition of the three steel-building collapses at the World Trade Center, New York on 9/11/01. Includes physicist Steven Jones' updated evidence of thermite. Gage's website,

is rapidly drawing building and engineering professionals to the 9/11 movement.

    ae911truth org

  • @cakeisnotanumber My apology for any mispelling in this and past messages.

  • @chessdominos I'd recommend checking out this also:

"Hardfire ARCHITECTS & ENGINEERS FOR 9/11 TRUTH / GAGE / ROBERTS / 2ND PROGRAM" - check on google videos.

  • @discoveringdharma - Penn and Teller were not calling all of Buddhism a "greeting-card philosophy." They were calling the soundbytes that the Dalai Lama gives to Western audiences a "greeting-card philosophy."

The Buddha taught us to not automatically believe things just because of who said it, including himself. So perhaps there is room in your practice of Buddhism to consider the evidence of what was presented instead of just reflexively rejecting any criticism of the Dalai Lama?

  • "A privilaged priest class living in utter luxury and opulence and you had a mass of serfs living in utter misery"

...So in other words, a religion?

  • And it's pretty ignorant and righteous to call Buddhism "greeting-card philosophy". It's actually some of the most profound, mind-bending philosophy around - I challenge Pen & Teller to accurately research and explain the teachings of the Buddha (which the Dalai Lama is a brilliant proponent of) and then turn around and call them "trite." It might do them a world of good.

  • You do know he was 16 when he left power?

  • thanks you Penn, I am very concerned with the shaman traditions of masks, it is continuing in Mongolia, but this Bon folk belief is similar to navaho etc.

  • The Dalai Lama was never a pawn. He was a supporter of Nazi Germany, enslaved his own people, not to mention the fact he is a part of the Maitreya Project (look it up guys) building 50 story high Buddha for the coming Lord Maitreya (Master Jesus). Which also means he's a part of the NWO. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing!!!!!!!

  • @daweeddawit I don't get it, how does the Maitreya project approve of New World Order?

  • This report, coming from guys who are admittedly entertainers but also have a habit of doing their research before making public statements, is stunning. I had no idea the culture of Tibetan Buddhism was so elitist and even brutal. I'm disappointed to see this, but still grateful for the post - it's always better to know the truth.

  • The whole idea behind the Dalai Lama's thinking is that some are less then human and those should be enslaved.

What they forgot to tell you was that rape was a common punishment in Tibet.

Also bear in mind that his effect on civil society on the West are going to ensure Chinese supremacy over Tibet. He will turn us into a bunch of serfts working for our "priest class".

Hell take a look around if you don't believe me.

  • Dalai Lama is evil and should be killed.

  • Anytime you trust the PRC you are a fool. If the Dalai Lama is lying, where is his CIA backed army, oh I guess they're disguised as hippie Buddhists in NYC.

  • Like come on, what do these to ignoranus's know about the teachings of the Buddha? Let alone practices with results. Please its so digustring to watch I'm out of here.

  • Please this is such a crap story... cheap opinionated bullsh#t to boost ratings. Anyone can give an opinion of what history is like. but unless you actually have put yourself in their shoes, who are you to judge. Some more you make it sound like the Dalai Lama was working underhanded to cut deals with CIA when in fact its the other way around, why? go ask your government for an explaination and stop using HHDL as the scapegoat for past actions.

  • @nostra120

lol and you base this off of what? My chinese parent's friends are testament to the cruelty the dalai lama dealt. You've just been fed doses of bullshit and i don't blame you; starting w/ cartoons the dalai lama has always been depicted as the good guy.

  • @nostra120

Your holyness the DL deal with the CIA only came to light with the freedom of information act. in the USA . This is a lie , how !. It is a matter of public record. And all those CIA train sons of Tibetan nobility who were dropped into Tibet got themselves killed by the peasants. Serve them F#$king right.

  • Tibet has had peasant empancipation since China went it. It has has a steadily increasing standard of living and education....this would never have happened under the rule of the religious elitists.

Given a choice between "Holy" frauds and Communist China I'll take China anyday...China is opening up....just not at the pace America wants so America get's pissed off and slanders it...but seems happy to be it's biggest trade partner...

What's that about throwing stones in glass houses?

  • I think many people took this opportunity to defame the Dalai Lama, which is quite sad.

The real Shugden practitioners will never defame the Dalai Lama, although they were unhappy that there was a ban.

  • @pathseeker9

The real Shugden practitioners brought the DL to court for religious persecution in Nepal. Moron i

  • Dalai is a political tool

  • 达赖是一个政治工具

  • Wonder how much money Penn And Teller got from China for this.

  • Slave master win a Nobel prize! Chairman Mao liberate million of slave and still a evil! what a joke!\(^o^)/~

  • There are some things which need to be cleared up: No, Tibet was not an ideal state.

However, it is frankly, quite useless to condemn the Dalai Lama because of this. Can you directly blame the Pope for atrocities committed by priests?

Make no mistake, the Dalai Lama is also merely human; but there is a certain wisdom in his messages. We should not forsake those messages due to what happened during his rule.

Do not forget he fled Tibet when he was 15 and might have had little influence in ...

  • ...what exactly happened during his rule. From what I gain, his messages generally are those of compassion and tolerance.

  • @HaxGah nothing happened during his rule since he never ruled before china started the occupation

pen and teller is an american comedy show

  • @HaxGah Actions speak louder than words. All political and religious leaders speak of peace, tolerance and compassion.

  • Since he was only 15 he naturally can't be held responsible, yet his predecessor was also a Dalai Lama (or so I humbly presume) ergo if China did not invade/pwn this lama, what would have happened under the reign of this current DL? Would the old ways be continued without question? Would this incarnation of the previous Lama somehow not continue the old ways and instead have changed the land into one of equality, humanity and compassion without courging out eyes? lulz

  • I did some research on the gouging out of eyes and the thirteenth Dalai Lama (the current Dalai Lama's predecessor) had banned this punishment in 1913 (quite some time before the Chinese invasion).

I think it's useless to think what might have happened. What's better to think is how we can change the future for the better ~

  • The people who supported Dalai Lama and then fled Tibet were the ruling class and landlords. So equality was achieved.

  • One can certainly blame the Lama for seeking to free Tibet, so that his Priestly class can once again effect the feudal serfdom it's akin to. And you better believe the Pope is to blame for priests raping boys! The archdiocese, himself and his office, enable and cover up the atrocities and have since the cult's inception. His history is one of armed revolt against the Chinese. That's not non-violence. That's not compassion! That's war. As is his affiliation with the CIA worthy of critique.

  • @HaxGah

DL was born in 1935 he inherited all power over Tibet at age 15 he did not ask for political asylum until he in 1956 in India with then India prime minister discouraged. He fully coorporated with the Chinese government until too much land and power was taken from him. He left with CIA help in 1959 at the age of 25.

Please try not to lie that can be expose within two seconds with google search.

  • @gakaron You have to admit that the situation was a bit more complicated than that. The same google search that you appear to hold in high esteem does not give any information on what the Chinese government did in Tibet. From what I gathered, he left Tibet because his life was in danger, not because he lost too much land (that he didn't even control directly

  • @Elphir

if chinese government want to kill him.its' very easy to do by the chinese,he can live today because chinese not want to harm him

his life is very safe, because he can't accept that he lost his own beneift of slaver owner, because chinese free those tibet slavers.

  • @HaxGah He is the titular head of an organization that is responsible for behavior ranging from the unethical to the criminal. This is not surprising, since all political movements display behavior within the same ranges. The point is to dispel the naive delusion that he's some kind of spiritual leader that is not first and foremost the leader of an exile group seeking to regain power and return Tibet to a theocracy. Theocracy vs state socialist totalitarianism? Great choices, but cest la vie.

  • @HaxGah yes, of course you can blame the leader of a corrupt feudal theocratic regime that hides behind spiritual and religious "saintliness". To criticize the Dalai Lama is not to support the Chinese; we can criticize both can't we?

  • @aoiwarai You are correct! The Muslims, Christians and Jews all have those who are models of what human beings should be, yet the Dalai Lama is held up as a person whos character eclipses them all! I gave him the benefit of the Doubt until he said the death of Usamah Bin laden " could have been a good thing". Not that it "could not have been a good thing", but I thought he would say something like all violent death is tragic lol.

  • TRUTH IS GOOD... AWESOME

  • goddamn it i love parenti

  • @easy0money I was like, yup, um-hmm, yep, right on. Until I saw you mention "American's Zionist foreign policy." And then I LOL'D because it's clear you don't even know what Zionism is. Silly silly.

  • @easy0money Because Zionism is evil and bad. Oooooooooooh.

    Oh, shut up, Derek Vinyard.

  • Go ahead and quit, HammerandClov. You're just a typical pussy-ass nigger.

  • Dalai Lama rules? He is even bigger fraud then the pope. Dalai Liar.

  • lol. dalai liar....

  • Says you, nigger.

  • Comment removed

  • slash agree .. but at least ppl are finally starting to wake up to it

  • Dalai Lama like GWB was in a bubble, he didn't understand what was happening.

Tibet is not a single country, it is divided among different lama contesting for power. the real problem Dalai Lama has now is to bring all the sect under one leadership. and that is why the whole Dorje Shugden thing exploded and now tibetan in india are taking Dalai Lama to court. it's like protestant reformation just happened for them.

  • WESTERN EMPIRE IS OVER DELA WITH IT

  • Penn n Teller -BS! Yes Tibet was poor and not at all a perfect society. And yes the Dalai Lama was not only the religous / spiritual leader of Tibet, but also the head of the Gov. Why does it surprise anyone that the CIA would have contact with ANY leader opposed to Communist China? Point is the commie bastards are eradicating an entire culture much like we did to Native Indians here in the US. A much bigger issue than if Tibet was a perfect society. Suck my ass Chairman Mao.

  • I agree wholeheartly. No one mentions that the CIA aka the American government basically abandoned the Tibetian people after trying to get them to rise up against the Chinese.

  • Mao is dead since a shitload of years...

  • you do know these guys over dramatize everything, make stuff up, and lie all the time

  • Haha right.

Go to Tibet when the Dali Lama was alive and you won't like him as much as you did before.

  • havw you been to tibet when he was living there?

  • Yes. It was a extremely poor place and I saw some "peace" monks burning some girls who were fetching water.

  • oh so you were in Tibet in the 1950's?

  • i still don't think it's either/or: China or the DL. like P&T said: what's the lesser of two evils? it's still pretty bad, either way. there has to be something else: like Tibet for Tibet, maybe. why don't the big world powers mind their own business?

oh, right. maybe that question answers itself. the big powers are the big powers because they do s*** like this.

  • It's true, we went to Asia four years ago and stopped by Tibet. My girl friend at the time had learned Chinese before so she translated for us, and we were talking to some Tibetan ex-slaves. They think that life is a hundred times better (back in 2005) than it was some fifty-odd years ago.

  • So, Guri, still no actual link for the alleged amnesty, right?

  • lol; Penn & Teller - absolute truth.

I first learned of Tibet's feudal system when a friend who went on a trip to China brought back photographs of Chinese protestors carrying signs that read "the Dalai Lama owned slaves".

I did some research, and lo and behold, it's true.

Funny how there's a media blackout on the subject in the West. I guess it wouldn't go smoothly with the whole dominating China=bad/Tibet=good narrative.

I've nothing against Buddhism, but the Dalai Lama is a fraud.

  • There may well be ambiguities in his political thought, but he had to grow into his office as a teenager onwards, and he was educated to be a spiritual leader, not a political leader. Despite that and despite the valid criticisms in this video, I think he has done pretty good. Yes, he wants to return to HIS country, but he does not want to restore the aristocracy. He wasnt a modern Tibet -and a free one. What is wrong with that?

  • lol this video is hilarious ^^

lets check history: the dalai lama came to power when china entered tibet in 1950! and he was 15 at this time!

so this video wants to tell us that e DLL who wasnt in charge ruled over slaves at a time when he was maybe 11 or 12 years old???

    wow im amazed....

    embarassing

  • he is reincarnated isnt he? or have you forgotten that

  • he called out full amnesty

    forgotten?

  • He was 15 when he owned slaves and acted as Tibet's figurehead?

    How unfortunate.

  • how can he rule over tibet when china occupied tibet at the same time??

and how can a 15 year old monk be a slavemaster??

    use your head jus ONCE

  • Tibet was occupied after the young Lama took the throne. The Chinese went in in 1950.

Really, dear reader, pull your head out for once.

He's even apologized for the feudal state of Tibet under his rule (after he was ousted by the Chinese, of course), and said that in the future, should he come back to rule, he would not own any slaves.

    Here, read a little:

    mostlywater . o r g / whats_the_deal_with_the_dalai_lama

    michaelparenti .o r g / Tibet . html

  • "Tibet was occupied after the young Lama took the throne. The Chinese went in in 1950"

wrong: the news were "chinese army entered tibet" before that, dalai lama wasnt in charge

    check his timeline

ps. michael parenti try to tell us that the dalai lama ruled over a serf system at a time he wasnt even dalai lama.... interessting

  • Wrong. The Dalai Lama was crowned in Nov. 1950. China had entered Tibet one month before that, but they did not go into the capital until 1951.

    Wikipedia:

The Chinese "People's Liberation Army first entered eastern Tibet (Chamdo) on October 7 1950...[They] continued on to central Tibet, but halted...east of Lhasa, at what China claimed was the de jure boundary of Tibet...[then] stopped and demanded Tibet's 'peaceful liberation'...PLA troops entered Lhasa peacefully in the fall of 1951."

  • So Tenzin Gyatso, the current Dalai Lama, sitting on his throne in unoccupied Lhasa, was still in charge of Tibet way into the spring of '51, despite the fact that he did not control all of Tibet's territory (he did still control parts of it).

How odd that he never bothered to abolish Tibet's essentially slaveholding feudal arrangements for the duration of his rule then.

Here's the source: Wikipedia, "Invasion of Tibet (1950-1951)"

And you're disputing MY timeline? What would be yours?

  • "Wrong. The Dalai Lama was crowned in Nov. 1950. China had entered Tibet one month before that, but they did not go into the capital until 1951"

true :) so what did i said? china entered tibet before the dalai lama was in charge, right?

  • Right, you're correct insofar. But where you're going from here is only exploiting a half truth.

That some regions of Tibet (name the East) were occupied a month before November '50 doesn't preclude the fact that the Dalai Lama was in charge of unoccupied Tibet, right in his own palace, right until 1951. He didn't abolish the slave-like conditions that constituted Tibet's feudal serfdom in all of that time!

(Though he now says that he regrets it.)

  • "That some regions of Tibet (name the East) were occupied a month before November '50 doesn't preclude the fact that the Dalai Lama was in charge of unoccupied Tibet"

he wasnt in charge before china ever entered tibet, dosent matter if they just occupied a piece of tibet and then the rest...

    HE WASNT IN CHARGE BEFORE

therefore he is not responsible like i said

and he called for full amnesty when he left potala the first time because of the occupation after the coronation

  • TheMightyGuri:

    "HE WASNT IN CHARGE BEFORE

therefore he is not responsible like i said"

    Come now.

The Dalai Lama *did* rule Tibet (from Lhasa) in 1950-1951, correct? Then, if he ruled Tibet from 1950-1951 he *was* responsible, correct?

It doesn't matter if there were some PLA troops present in the eastern provinces of Tibet at that time. Lhasa was not occupied, and surrendered peacefully after the period in which the Dalai Lama ruled (1950-1951).

    He was responsible.

  • "The Dalai Lama *did* rule Tibet (from Lhasa) in 1950-1951, correct? Then, if he ruled Tibet from 1950-1951 he *was* responsible, correct?"

wrong, because he called for nation wide amnesty

    correct??

  • I will confess that I'm not familiar with the "full amnesty" you're talking about: I've tried Googling, but got 0 results.

I find it puzzling that the Dalai Lama did not challenge the feudal system when he was actually in charge of Tibet, so I would appreciate it if you'd provide a link to where I could read up on said amnesty.

Kindly furnish a link, and we could discuss how this fits into what otherwise does look like a pattern of brutal exploitation furthered by the Dalai Lama; thanks.

  • Again, let's have some context to your allegation that the Dalai Lama called for full amnesty. "Amnesty" for his slave-like serfs? And is this amnesty supposed to have happened *before* he was forced from power with the entry of Chinese troops into Lhasa in 1951?

Please furnish a link for me; I'm very partial toward evidence, yet the Google search engine has yielded nothing!

  • he called the amnesty before he ever met some chinese official in tibet!

go to his homepage or tibet . com

  • Comment removed

  • You've cited two extremely pro-Tibet sources; having looked at both of them, I haven't found anything of the "full amnesty" you're talking about. (Could this be why you're not linking to the actual articles?)

tibet . com / WhitePaper / white4 . html does mention the Dalai Lama's introducing "far-reaching administrative and land reforms" - but none of what's listed actually constitutes doing away with serfdom, and only in 1959, already in exile, did he propose "a series of democratic changes".

  • Hence, I've some very strong reasons to suppose that there never was any real "full amnesty" during the Dalai Lama's rule in Tibet, though you're free to show me, as you allege, that it was otherwise.

(In any case, the definition of amnesty is a pardon for offenses - and what kind of pardon from the theocratic ruler would have ended *serfdom*?)

As it is, even the tibet . com article contradicts your claims; the real reforms only came in 1959; the Dalai Lama's site isn't any more helpful.

  • people do make mistakes, yes?

  • I think most Zang ethnic minorities (Tibetans) activists, living outside of their motherland, China and a small number inside China, including a small minority of Western sympathisers have realized that they have lost a lot of respect in the International Communities today. The disruptions of the Olympic Torch, The Beijing Games, The riots in Lhasa, Xizang (Tibet) province of China in March 2008, and many other disruptive demonstrations had been condemn by people worldwide. Peace to the world.

  • is the bigger guy the same guy trying to sell joy an encyclopedia in 'friends'?

  • Dalai Lama has renounced his position as temporal leader of Tibet like 10 years ago! He does not intend to "return to power" if/when the CCP releases Tibet.

You gotta remember that the 14th Dalai Lama was never really "in power" in Tibet - he went into exile while still a teenager. I certainly wouldn't want to be judged as an adult for the things I did as a teenager!! Would you?

  • Most Tibetans were farmers and peasants in Tibet. They were not well educated like Westerns. Nobles there used their ways to control the poor majority. No ground anymore for good religion when the leader admits that there is no sacred pass of power. All lies impled. Poor slaves fear:For example, if you do not slave for nobles, your next life will be a pig, your next next life will be a dog and so on. Very horrifying stories and lies. No one wants to become a pity animal next life.

  • I don't think you all have a very good information about Tibet even after many researches or what ever you'll have done. "Dalai lama" has always been the spiritual leader of Tibet and the people of Tibet have always respected their leader. On this video Tenzin Gyaltso the 14th incarnation of the Dalai Lama has been accused. which i think is not right. Tibetans have always respected their leader even from centuarys back. so H.H the 14 Dalai Lames can not be blamed.

  • well~ people in Tibet respected Dalai Lama doesn't make Dalai Lama good~ Hitler was somehow also a spiritual leader of the German, and people in Germany also respected Hitler once. does that make Hitler good?

Almost very tyrant in the history gained the respect of its people due to the propaganda and lack of the information. Respect doesn't make people GREAT

  • yes, u r right, also when theocracy and religion is concerned basically people are brainwashed into thinking that they have to accept their lot. buddhism's reincarnation comes in handy for that: "The poor and afflicted were taught that they had brought their troubles upon themselves because of their wicked ways in previous lives. Hence they had to accept the misery of their present existence as a karmic atonement and in anticipation that their lot would improve in their next lifetime."

  • China is the best

  • um... the video was not condoning what the china was doing either... "the enemy of my enemy is not my friend" "the lesser of two evils, is still evil"

  • And then pathetic Richard Gere cries his eyes out about how Dalai Lama is great....

  • and yet, the some of the people who comment on here can't stamd the sight of a couple of Americans taking the other side, contradictory to both Richard Gere the Queer and Nancy the Patsy Pelosi on the Dalai Lama issue.

  • man...i'm a buddist and when you think about it if all the ppl in the relig world are like this...what's to trust and look up to in this world ?

  • I don't think the Dalai Lama would reinstall archaic caste systems and brutal punishment. Seems like they're jumping to conclusion.

He's viable for a leader because the Tibetians would accept him as oppossed to an American despot.

Like the brutality they attributed to him doesn't occur in America. Yea, right. Basically just breeds apathy and allows Communist China to flourish.

  • For half century the tibetan in exile hated china, for taking away their wealth and setting their serfs free, do you think they can get along with the chinese once they return?

even if they don't want the serfs or land back, do you think they can stay peacefully in tibet? In dhalamshala they get yearly 20 million $ only because they are anti-china. Do you think they would give up this money?

it is nothing about culture, it is all about money!

  • If you think it's a lie,why don't you do your own research whom are not biased.Facts are facts. Why dont you ask Tibetians who are not of the Lama class who were teenagers or adults & lived through the Dalai Lama & monk's tyrant rule?My friend's grandparents who were former slaves of the Dalai Lama have stories that would make your skin crawl &your hairs stand.People are so easy to believe in false rants by the Dalai Lama & media&popular opinion doesnt make it the truth.Ignorance is contagious.

  • The Dalai Lama doesn't own a thing but the robe on his back. Still, though, he mustn't return to power! He mustn't!

  • Why Must'nt he?

  • Pimp & Liar Perverti: You are liars and without honor. If you have any decency you would not have done this one-sided CCP Swiftboating.

If you r not liars but have a sense of honor and decency you will provide here credible sources for your calumny.

Lie1: Dalai Lama was a slave owner. Lie 2: Tibet had serfs slaves and majority of Tibetans lived unhappily. Lie 3: The Dalai Lama wants power. 4:Tibetans lived in huts--many freedom fighters were nomads and proCCP were minority. Freedom is for all.

  • This is all complete ignorance....

We live in an age of books... READ

    IGNORANCE is an active choice

  • why Dalai lama?why are you doing this to the tibetan people?why are you lying so much?isn't it the agenda for the chinese government to split the tibetan people? Why are you creating the divisions in the tibetan society? Why are you instigating hatred and bitterness between your own people? are'nt shugden practitioners tibetan? have'nt they laid down their lives for you? is your memory so short? have you forgotten your history? Aren't you a buddha? you preach compassion, where's your compassion?

  • Maybe it's because he's a fraud like the Pope and because he never had "memories and history from past lives" as a buddha because reincarnation is bullshit.

  • Have you noticed, most of the propaganda sites which is supporting communist barbaric china, you cannot find much counterviews, and you can post replies, as the sites dont allow it. Do not read any blog sites which do not allow readers opinion. What the hell do chinese mean by claiming Tibet? And why the hell do they bring up lies about slavary and not facts about Chinese butchering million Tibets? Frikk china and chinese.

  • "Frikk china and chinese." How about "frikk racism?"

  • How about frikk yourself. What's wrong with caring about your race?

  • There's a difference between caring about your race and HATING other races, like this fellow does. He's ignorant too because most Chinese do not ultimately support the ideologies of the Chinese government. YOU had better not own a gun or eat pasta if you are racist against the Chinese. You come off to me as someone who owns a gun.

  • I will believe in the racial redemption of the once great Chinese when these ideologies are reformed and rejected. Until then make no mistake that their patriotism lies with their country and race, whatever ideology it possess and not this uniquely Western, New Age global citizen bullshit.

  • What's wrong with owning guns?

  • Why does one have a special connection with another individual just because they're part of the same race? Racial pride is absurd to me.

  • Its not a matter of connection, it's a matter of extent. If one has such a racial bond with someone it alienates them or dehumanizes people not of that ethnic group then it isnt constructive.

But to answer your question look at essentially EVERY country in the world - which is a racial basis. England - Land of Anglos. China - Chinese. Japan - Japanese. Russia - Russians. Not just a nationality but an ethnicity. Few things motivate people to sacrafice and care for one another, race is one.

  • Sure, but Is =/= Ought. & I don't see how nationalism is credible either.

  • Neither race or nation is destructive or regressive in and of itself, it's how it's utilized.
