very cool short, looks like a TV commercial perfectly shot, great voiceover and great unknown actors that look and act like actors, that's a cool thing.
@viniciuspedrozo Thats exactly what its supposed to do, its optically squeezing the image that gets projected on the camera's sensor, you'll need to correct that in post to get the correct widescreen aspect.
I love the affect of the anamorphic lens. This stuff looks great. Will any anamorphic lens work (to one degree or another), like an old prokector lens perhaps or do you need a specific lens?j
I can see curves when you pan and the hight is stretched to much, I see this on the Iscorama alot, not such a good lens, it overlaps a bit into the fish eye curves, more so then other anamorphic lens, pause on timeline 2:52 and look at the train, also look at timeline 2:43 to 2:49 keep your eye left on the train track and watch how a straight track curves off! Iscorama is a horrible lens in my opinion
@parravision2011 lol, I'm not sure what you're comparing this to in order to come up with this being a horrible lens. Yeah there's barrel distortion but when it comes to acquiring an anamorphic lens for Full Frame under $500 it's unmatched in sharpness and desirable artifacts. You simply can't compare this to something shot with modern $10k-$100k+ Lomo or Hawk glass. Apples and Oranges. If you can find me a better alternative for $400 please point me in the right direction.
@akirawing Oh yeah? laugh that this....a $40.00 Cinescope by B&L lens gets a why sharper picture but its a big lens and you need rod supports, the rear glass is 60mm the front is larger then 100mm, its very effective at five feet! you get a wider spread then any anamorphic lens at a closer distance, you dont have to zoom much at all! while you think this Iscrorama is the best I need to ask if you used a Cinescope? a sankor give a more stable picture then Iscorama while Kowa is softer
@parravision2011 I've used Sankor and Kowa, neither of them compare from experience, not only are they a bitch to mount but they double as projection lenses. Actual minimum focal distance is about 8ft and you have to match up front and rear element focus independently every shot rendering them impractical for most shooting but distant landscapes. The Iscorama36 is a FF stills lens, it has a single focus ring and even though it's built for still photos is just more practical to use.
@akirawing all three lens suck! Kowa, is shit #1 Sankor is made by Kowa, thats shit #2 and although Iscorama is sharp it still fails because of the curves! and sharpness takes away from the film look! the shaper the picture the more it looks like ABC news broadcasting! for people to say a Iscormana is better the Hawk is a retard! go watch Blood diamonds and tell me and projector lens is going to do better then a prime lens?
@parravision2011 No one said Iscorama is better than Hawk. You're the only one making that comparison. it sounds like you're bitter or confused about what you read and see to what you perceive people are writing. Come back when you can read straight and form an intelligent conversation based on what people are actually saying and not based on some emotional need to spread your ill informed propaganda.
@parravision2011 If every YouTube video could afford $100,000 Hawk primes mounted on a Red or s35 trust me I'd be using them bro. Real sharpness is actually a good thing, it's edge enhanced sharpness that looks bad, if the lens is too sharp with a limited video codec you'll end up with too much unresolvable detail giving the appearance of TV, soft lenses can help. If you shoot actual film or something 2k-4k with no edge enhancement, using a sharp lens is a must.
@akirawing my point is the Iscorama is a piece of crap for the money! you can get better for less then $50 but you have to pay by adding weight. My point of this posting was to bring awareness about an over priced lens with major flaws that are being over looked! and that is the curves, this lens crosses into fisheye curves resulting in unwanted phenomenon effects unlike most anaorphic lens, you get a very stable picture with a Sankor.
No one is overlooking the flaws. Everyone can see them. It could be partially due to the cheap rear element I used because I didn't use a better prime deep enough to mount the front element to. The $50 lenses all have front/rear element focusing issues and sometimes severe blurring around the edges. Not nice softness, just ugly blur which is obvious on raw footage, not so much compressed on YouTube. Believe me, I've tried the ultra cheap lenses, they were a real pain to use.
@akirawing I think you missed my point! The Iscorama has a curve that edges over anamorphic into fish eye! the glass was cut that way! I wouldent fork over no more then $200 for this lens I dont care how sharp it is! its an ugly curve and for less money you can get something with no curves, this is what im talking about here! the curves it produces and you cant fix it!
@parravision2011 I got your point, and I welcome the observation but it doesn't make the lens "bad" or "terrible" there are many other factors that make or break a lens and that isn't one of them. BTW it's called barrel distortion not curves, it's a unique characteristic I find interesting.
@parravision2011 yeah for less money you can get something without as much barrel distortion but you will hardly be able to shoot anything because of the focusing and mounting issues, rendering those lenses almost useless for anything practical. I'd rather have a lens with some unique distortion than an element that barely works in the field. Iscoramas are old 35mm lenses that weren't meant for use with motion pictures so they have some weird artifacts yes, that's why they are cheap.
just wanted to fill in that anyone thinking the iscorama is skewish on the train scene, it's not... it's the rolling shutter effect that makes it skew
Nice Film... I like the cinematography... it reminds me of the way mine was shot... Check me out sometime.. Thanks... We shot with the 7D Cannon as well..
I use Vegas, I just apply 1.33x aspect instead of square on a 1080p project under the video properties and deselect 'maintain aspect ratio' on the footage itself in the timeline. I imagine Final Cut would be similar
Nice work mate, ya even Im quite confused an in wat to go for 7d or 5d? How much difference does a full frame camera have on the overall photographic and cinematic possibilities? Its gonna be a one time investment so want to be absolutely sure wat im getting, when is the 24p version of Mark ii expected?
train station was shot with the 5D2, I like both 7D and 5D for cinematography, just depends what kind of glass your shooting with and what sort of look you're going for.
all the shots Mark did of himself are 7D, all other shots are 5D. For video, I would completely recommend the 7D over the D90. From the higher frame-rate options to the better resolution, bitrate, codec and manual controls, it completely blows D90 away. Something to also keep in mind is 5D is getting a firmware update to at least do 24/25p in 2010 if full frame is your thing.
from my understanding the upload is 1.333 squeezed to 1920x1080, I'm not sure how youtube does the conversion from the file but I uploaded full 1080p that is in turn interpreted by the player to resize it.
