Great Song!! Interpol, The National.... and even the Editors all seem to have been influenced by Joy Division... Ian Curtis.... Who I consider the MOST underated band ever!!
joy division played what sounded good they didn't play complicated stuff and isn't that the most important thing ? what sounds good ..you can tell that interpol is defiantly influenced by joy division ..but i wouldn't go as far as saying there ripping off joy division .. both bands have there own unique sound in my opinion
I've thought Interpol were amazing right from the early days, it's hilarious that they are "compared" to Joy Division by narrow minded idiots simply because they quoted them as an influence.
Joy Division gained most of their publicity because of Ian Curtis' death, hardly for their musicianship, Interpol are in a different league in terms of that!
Joy Division members were inexperienced and young and didn't have a chance to mature before Ian kicked the bucket. Of course their musicianship wouldn't be too strong. But creatively speaking Joy Division was a great band. Interpol is also great, and their early days didn't sound Joy Division at all.
i just wanna say that you guys who say, "bla bla bla joys division is better than interpol bla bla bla", well, screw you! every band are different from each other, you guys listen to a band and compare that band with another! im sick and tired of that kind of sh*ty comments. this band is INTERPOL and not an imitation of joy division!

Man, he cannot sing live. Pitch is hideous..I mean, nobody's as good live as recorded, but this is bad...and the lead guitarists sound is not very good.
Ha ha...actually If you know anything about acting, you'll know theres some truth in that....acting is still a form of communication just like singing is.
they don't sound like joy division at all...and different feelings anyway! not point comparing, but if anything, they sound more like echo and the bunnymen.
Who fucking cares about the comparisons. They are both amazing bands, they both have awe inspiring singers and beautiful bass and guitar work. There is nothing in this world that is original anymore. They all build on one another and that is the simple truth. I love them both.
i'm a huge joy division fan and i will never understand why everybody says interpol sounds like joy division, because they really don't. the closest comparison point is the basslines.
First of all, not every single thing has to be "original". No band is original and everyone borrows certain parts of their styles from other bands.
Yes, they are similar to Joy Division but not as much as everyone makes it out to be. You COULD say the singer sounds similar to Ian Curtis and perhaps the basslines too. But its not like they're directly stealing everything from Joy division. Stupid music snobs.
what joy division is the only band that's allowed to have a monotoned singer and crafty bass lines? come'on dude, look past the fact that there are similarities between the two and actually listen to interpol.
I think everything is great about Interpol, i dont have a single problem with the singing, its vibrant and appealing, and the sounds mix well and are so catchy! Interpol made me love music Live.
you say some truth, but i'm just so overwhelmed with the performance's ambiance that i forget *** ******** completely somtimes, the pathos interpol offer are just that poignant

I wouldn't go so far as to consider joy division musically inferior, the demand for what I'd call post-punk or indie is just way higher today

Best excuse for bad singing I've ever heard. He trained as an actor so he must know how to sing. :) Funny stuff.

Any band with a deep voiced singer and morose lyrics will ALWAYS be compared to Joy Division. Sad reality.

He sounds nothing like Ian Curtis. Their voice deepness is similar, but that's it.
