joy division played what sounded good they didn't play complicated stuff and isn't that the most important thing ? what sounds good ..you can tell that interpol is defiantly influenced by joy division ..but i wouldn't go as far as saying there ripping off joy division .. both bands have there own unique sound in my opinion

I've thought Interpol were amazing right from the early days, it's hilarious that they are "compared" to Joy Division by narrow minded idiots simply because they quoted them as an influence.

Joy Division gained most of their publicity because of Ian Curtis' death, hardly for their musicianship, Interpol are in a different league in terms of that!

Joy Division members were inexperienced and young and didn't have a chance to mature before Ian kicked the bucket. Of course their musicianship wouldn't be too strong. But creatively speaking Joy Division was a great band. Interpol is also great, and their early days didn't sound Joy Division at all.

Man, he cannot sing live. Pitch is hideous..I mean, nobody's as good live as recorded, but this is bad...and the lead guitarists sound is not very good.

i'm a huge joy division fan and i will never understand why everybody says interpol sounds like joy division, because they really don't. the closest comparison point is the basslines.

First of all, not every single thing has to be "original". No band is original and everyone borrows certain parts of their styles from other bands.

Yes, they are similar to Joy Division but not as much as everyone makes it out to be. You COULD say the singer sounds similar to Ian Curtis and perhaps the basslines too. But its not like they're directly stealing everything from Joy division. Stupid music snobs.
