That's on purpose - it's a very old Japanese style of stage special effects. The guys in the black masks are called kuroko. There's an annual TV special called Kasou Taishou where people compete to come up with the cleverest kuroko skits. YouTube it - it's actually very cool!

OK, I'm confused (easily, sometimes) so please help. I note that Nagi Noda died, which is super sucky, esp. since I like the videos of hers that I've seen and I love the Hapandas. However, Wikipedia lists her as a 'pop artist", so I was wondering if she is also the singer here. I had never heard of Meg before, and I am having trouble finding any info. I guess by "pop artist" here it could just mean that she created popular art, though.

In that sense, this sort of stage manipulation is already famous. further, being able to see the puppeteers is not shoddy, it's assumed that the audience will ignore them, as in kabuki plays.

The director of this video, Nagi noda, has utilized this technique in another music video, She's My Man for the Scissor Sisters in 2006.
