Jesus, I am old. But before I get all down on myself, the fact that this was some of the first kids programmining and we were the first generation to grow up being aware that WE TOO could be on tv, if we were cute enough, talented enough or lucky enough. We were the generation that played the first video games, watched the first MTV, got the first cable. Everything else is an echo of what we went through. We are pioneers!
WOW! The memories this brings back!! Really tripped out! Early 70's...I was about 5-6, very cool and just has a place in the psyche, hard to explain.
I did grow up in the 70s, but for some reason I always avoided this show. I remember switching the channel as soon as I heard the beginning of that theme song. Hearing it now gives me the creeps.
@1reazen Its really not that Funny. Be Glad that your did not have to grow up in the 70's and even the sixty's. My advise go out and refore undue this left wing Marxist crap! THese Department of Health Education and Welfare education techniques are why INDIA AND CHINA ARE BOOMING NOT ZOOMING.

@mrFalconlem THe ivory tower white boys who sat back and smoked pot are out reality. To them the world was great back then. Now take a deep breath and look back.
@noluv2u Absolutely!! They were truly the good ol' daze WAY before Teletubbies and all that little libertyville for dummies came out. Makes us want to hide! It was the best & the LAST modern time to bring up children. There were no such things as metal detectors or police guards in the schools. Kids did not blow up shit back then. We weren't angels, but we weren't America's Most Wanted neither. We were fun-loving, a little snooty, but not of the "mean girls" psycho-ward variety
I was 8 when this episode premiered. As a Canadian, the black kids on this show scared me as a child. I really didn't want to go to Boston if these kids were the leaders of the youth movement.
I bought the DVD of Zoom back to the 70's. unfortunately it only has 4 episodes on it (not enough!) so I'm watching it sparingly, not all 4 consecutively; these take me back in time, so I want to preserve the moment. I wonder what the kids' last names are (or were, if the girls got married) and where they are now. it would be nice if WGBH put all or some full seasons on DVD, like Sesame Street and the Electric Company was.
@CosmicCowboy25 Yup -- hear you. I wish there were more out there. Somebody once posted the entire first episode but it was eventually pulled down by YT (WGBH?). I miss my childhood...
@WonkaVator72 The GenX'ers were the best...we were the brightest and the least trouble making generation. Have you noticed that there were more people born after 1968-1970 who ended up arrested or were more criminal. We are even better than idiot greedy Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers did create better programming and were better as a younger generation, but boy did the Baby Boomers tank when they aged! Forget about anything after Gen X. More like, Gen-O-psychotic!
@WonkaVator72 I miss my childhood too! People were a tad bit better than today's kids, even the teachers were. People really did care back then. Not today. We of the 1970s-very early 80s had it pretty good....
@CosmicCowboy25 Thats exactly what it does to me, takes me back in time. Its almost like i'm living the moment all over again. I didn't know how much i missed that until i heard this. My thanx to the uploader.
@CosmicCowboy25 If you go to wikipedia and search "ZOOM (1972 TV series)" the article has all of kids' full names. If you google them, you can find out what most of them are up to now. For instance, Joe teaches psychiatry at Harvard.
KPITT1204...nice to know someone else was crushing on the ZOOM gals as well! LOL...they were all a tad older than me of course....well..alot older at the time. But still....
OMG! I can't beleive that I remember these kids! TRUE CONFESSION: I had the biggest crush on Nancy! I wrote her, but received a postcard form Lynn instead. I can't believe that I can see my beloved Nancy again!!!!!! LOL
Don't feel old. I'm gonna' be 40 on August 30, 2010 and, thanks to YouTube, I, STILL, LOVE watching vintage childrens "edu-tainment" such as ZOOM, or "retro-entertainment," in general!
I am going to be 50 in December of 2010 and I remember these shows first run.Great show.I love Tommy's Bostonian accent.I should talk I am from New Yawk.LOL!
For some reason this show really bugged my dad (even though it was on PBS, which he would have gladly sold us to support)... maybe it was the kids acting odd all the time, running around and what not, but this show was a LOT better than Wonderama in his eyes!
I remember this show from those days (I was about 8) and for some reason I didn't really like it either. I think maybe I found the black backdrop depressing.
This was GREAT. I miss this show so much. And Im almost 40. If i had kids, I'd buy DVDs for all these shows and make them watch it, along with Electric Co. and old school Sesame Street. This stuff is soooooooo much better than what kids get fed today. Looking back I feel spoiled and somewhat fortunate.
OMG, I still have the original Zoom Album with this cast. I used to have such a crush on Nancy, who I found out lived not too far from me. What memories. Thanks for posting this.
