  • love it! wonderful.

  • Seven people have issues admitting to witnessing the incredible...

  • is this song green sleeves?

  • @MrVannk Yes

  • OMG changing the strings on this beast must be a bitch!

  • if i had 39 strings, i wouldn't see the point in having frets. Even still, this guy is... wow.

  • ...and now for something completely different

  • Sounds a bit like Ludovico Einaudi's music

  • the most beauthiful harp guitar

  • the 6 people who disliked this are philistines who dont know a musical masterpeice when they see one.

  • Belo som! Linda melodia!

  • So if a string breaks, how long does it usually take you to figure out which one it was?

  • Thank you to the bitchin luthiers out there building things that nobody has ever seen or heard and putting them in the hands of people willing to go beyond 6 strings (^_^)

  • Have you ever tried to catch your heart, as it soared beyond your dreams?

    Amazing., simply amazing...tell me more. ♬♫♪♫♩ :D

  • @Sidsniffles Thanks for the comment :D

  • We are so Blessed,Thank You

  • Wonderful performance, I love it.

  • The more strings u have , the aweome u r ....

  • It took him 10 years to tune that monster...

  • One of the most relaxing and spiritually uplifting parts of God I enjoy most in my chosen realm of Love Divine Joy

  • mesmerizing...

  • you need like 18 fingers for this.

  • @187alacran Yeah, no kidding. lol

  • @187alacran

    That's what she said.

  • Is the main riff from A Christmas Carol

  • @Wahlberger I caught a hint of that too..'What child is this' along with 'Greensleeves, beautiful!

  • i bet its a pleasure to tune that instrument (not sarcastic)

  • not 39 strings. some arent in use. just looks like 39. its about 25 strings but even amazing. :)

  • ...awesome,,,

  • I cried.. It is so beautiful!!! Bless all responsible for bringing this to life, and especially for the artist playing it!!

  • @cassytn Wow..thanks for the comment.

  • Does his right hand's pinky work or not? it just like, hang there the whole song through

  • @MuddyTodler he doesnt use it. i think not even on a normal 6 string

  • Wow, wild set of strings.

  • Love it....I want one of those

  • Check out Don Ross and Andy Mckee if you've never done so before!!!

  • That was my first thought.. "God forbid you ever have to restring that thing."

    And then..

"This would be the hardest thing ever to tune. By the time you got done tuning it'd be an hour later."

  • superb

  • @Upali59 Yes, I never get tired of watching.

  • Damn imagine tuning that bitch.

  • Most of the piece was played on the standard 6-string section of the harp guitar; do you know the open tuning Alex used? Thanks...

  • @luminorguy Don't know if you could tell but the guitar part of that harp-guitar has many more strings than 6.

  • God-given talents are meant to be shared. Mr. DeGrassi, thank you for sharing your gift with us! It makes the world a better place.

  • for this next song i will tune to Drop C, give me 2 days. In the mean while enjoy the drinks and the pre installed beds.

  • Gorgeous music here...

  • the harp strings at the bottom are tuned chromatically?

  • @jeffkid9999 listen, yes.

  • meh

  • where in the world do u buy 1 ov those?

  • really elegant design.. but i don't understood if the larger neck is playable and how.. only in tapping?

  • Somebody's got to post him playing "Western".

  • wonder if he has a case for it o.O

  • it is impressive, but people are failing to realize that it's just a guitar with a few extra strings with set tunings, if he already knew how to play the guitar, it would have been fairly easy for him to pick this up.

  • Sounds awesome, Tuning must be a fucker though o.O

  • I find Harp Guitars really impressiv, but I have to say, say that for me making music is something social, sharing good music with others while making it is something essential for me! So I'm impressed, but lets do that with 3 people and make 3 people happy instead of jst 1^^

  • Truly amazing instrument, and perfectly executed song with emotion and feel

  • @JonisCrescendo Thanks for watching!

  • do u like to be friends

  • As amazing as that is. Im more impressed by Seasick Steve belting out a good tune on 3 strings.

  • Bitch to tune and ... HAs to be heavy as hell lmao

  • Must be a total bitch to tune that.

  • i don't suppose i would find the tabs for this =))

  • Alex learned in a few days. Amazing huh?

  • It can't be...

  • THREE CHEERS FOR GREENSLEEVES!

  • he ought to slap a whammy bar on that thing

  • Make him play Freebird on it too.

  • LMAO Cant wait for that!

  • noo mames...

    una por dedoooooo!!

  • it's beautiful! where can i find one of those things? its almost like the very bottom strings are drone sitar strings and the rest is like almost everyother harp guitar ive seen. never seen one before..great playing!

  • i guess is a pain in the ass to tune that guitar

  • prolly

  • Very very nice! This guy is great! The songs he chose are excellent! Who needs a harp?

  • Amazing Instrument, even more amazing instrumentalist to be able to handle that much instrument.

  • That is fucking amazing.

  • What a gorgeous instrument...

  • es bellisimo escuchar esta musica

  • It's like a hap!

  • damn, the day i needed new strings, I would kill myself haha

  • i bet tuning that guitar is almost as hard as tuning a floyd rose!

  • tune that on it will take som time :)

  • looks like that 6 string guitar neck can be set up as a 12. got way more that 6 tuning pegs on it lol now that would take forever to tune lol

  • man i love this guy's Sympitars

  • o my god

  • sounded like he was playing greensleeves a minute into the vid

  • Well if you notice, the song is called "Reverie For Greensleeves," so you're not far off.

  • the head stock looks so coool

  • i love that guitar....bin thinkin on modding an old six string 2 b a harp guitar....

  • Fantastic arrangement and playing, fantastic instrument and fantastic filming. How anyone could call this anything other than good filming greatly confuses me.

It's good to finally hear this instrument, I remember reading about it some time ago and I thinkt it a great expansion on the more common kinds of harp guitars.

  • The guitar is by a guy named Fred Carlson, who is a woods-wizard, and has been alive for thousands of years. Fred was actually a playmate of Tom Bombadil, back in the day. The first instrument he made was the Tuned Pebbles, which he would drop over descending rocks in a woodland brook. He has built guitars from the remains of Ents, bequeathed to him by the Ents themselves, when they decided to pass on. If Fred tells you this instrument is made of Entwood, you'd better believe him.

  • I totally believe this is made out of entwood. On the other hand: Ents have been much too lovely to be killed for a guitar.

Anyway, this is my biggest dream to one day own a guitar from Fred Carlson, especially this one. I feel like not playing anymore before I have that one.

  • cminor7sus4 has the most epic comment ever. laughed my ass off.

  • laughter is good. I'm not kidding about a single word of it. Test it out scientifically. Listen to the music. Try to describe the thrill. Fred may be the reincarnation of Tom Bombadil! -edwinson

  • Now there's a name I haven't heard in ages...Tom Bombadil. Few are those that even recognize the name but those that do are blessed.

  • Blessed indeed!

...and now, after that comment, I can only imagine Goldberry playing a harp guitar like this.

  • he's the owner of that sympitar???? nice!!! Good to know it's in good hands :)

I didn't know the sympitar sounded that cool

  • That is something special i love it one of a kind it sounds beautiful

  • Just want to say I've enjoyed watching this video many times. It's through people like yourself we can enjoy these treats on youtube. I think the camera angles showed nice detail of the instrument as well musicsol.

  • I disagree with that comment musicsoluble, I think the filming quality is brilliant, he did a really great job with capturing a haunting tune. The instrument is also portrayed clearly!

  • Thanks!

  • I would hate to have to tune that beauty

  • Wow! Your comment is the first to criticize my ability as a filmmaker in nearly a year. I did the lighting, camerawork, and the edit as a one man band. Alex DeGrassi was pleased, Fred Carlson (the designer) really liked it, and Greg Miner (the man who distributed the audio recording) had nothing but compliments as well. Not to mention countless nice comments and a continual five star rating. But I guess I can't please everyone. We have a German judge here.

  • can you say multitask?

  • I want this guitar so bad..

  • It's not a guitar. It's a sympitar called "the flying dream." I'm pretty sure he only made one of them, so I doubt you'll ever come close to owning it.

  • You are correct. It's a sympitar, however it is called THE NEW DREAM. I just put guitar in the title so more people would find it in the search. Nobody searches for sympitar as a key work.

    Chappy

  • you're right. I didn't see "the new dream" until I showed my brother the site. thanks for clarifying!

  • i was looking for something on degrassi the tv show and clicked on this instead but i have to say this is SICK! i'd like to see him tune that thing though. keep playing you're amazing!

  • such outstanding musicianship. ive known of alex for a while but never seen him play, we need more like him

  • haunting and beautiful...this took me somewhere else, and IMO that is the best kind of song!

Keep it up, you have such talent :)

  • Awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee¡

  • oh man i feel bad for u when u need to tune the whole thing great instrument tho

  • wow! that was awesome!!!

  • Awesome guitar. Great performance by Alex! Thanks for posting! -Derek

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • a bazooka with strings ;o

    extreme but beautiful

  • thats gotta be a bitch to restring...

    amazing playing though, truly amazing.

  • no doubt

  • .... how absolutely beautiful to hear - and how incredible to see. some things in this world are beyond words. i think this sounds like love.

  • Escaped gorilla's epic theme song

  • there you go...

  • ALL THE JEWS IN THE HOUSE SAY YOOOOOO!

  • your hooooooooo

  • Rofl, why is this video a response to "Escaped Gorilla Caught on Tape?" Haha.

    Well, amazing video, 5 stars.

  • Ohhh...I don't know. I'm just trying to get hits for all my different videos. LOL

  • awesome guitarist but i think when hes finished playin he falls asleep lol

  • Fo Sho!

  • wtf does fo sho mean???

  • It means I agree

  • that's fo sho!

  • lolololol

  • y is this video a response to a gorillaa video?

  • cause it's funny...the very reason you are asking is why I did it...LOL

  • This video shows how all those extra strings can be made to make "sense" in the context of the music. Beautiful performance and killer harp-guitar. Thank you!

  • he is one sick dude

  • Yes....he is!

  • I can imagine how much he spends to tune this wondefull instrument :O

  • Oh my god... I don't got patience to turn that harb-guitar xD .... Do you? O.o

  • I would spend like a day. :O

    What a fucking patience Ô.Ô

  • what about the string change... O.O

  • thats so amazing and he puts so much feeling into his playing its unbelievable

  • no doubt about it...Alex is a truly gifted musician

  • oh goodness

  • Awesome instrument. Twenty years or so Alex was playing in Asheville NC I went but it was snowing like crazy! Myself and 8 others made it to the hall....and Alex Degrossi. He gave us a two hour concert that was unbelievable. One of the highlights of my life. He

s a super nice guy as well. RuckerD

  • Thanks for sharing.....

  • Great Peice.

Is that the Beyond the trees Fred Carlson?

Is that the New Dream Harp Sympitar?

I'm almost at the point where i'm going to camp outside his doorstep until he teaches me how to make those.

Still it must take about a week just to tune the resonators.

  • It certainly is the "NEW DREAM" BY Fred Carlson. Thanks for the comment.

  • That is the BFG 9000 of stringed instruments

  • But there is a Gibson BFG...

  • Wonderful filming matt...hope mayby someday someone will film 'window' .... it's one of my most favourite pieces of music...

  • Thanks Alex for the nice comment. "Window" would certainly be great to capture.

  • Wow! wish there was more of alex's stuff on youtube!

  • Yeah, there is only this music video I directed and a few simple videos he made with Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

  • What a fantastic instrument!

  • The istrument was designed by Fred Carlson.

  • oh my gosh, my jaw was to the ground for the duration of this video... wonderful.

  • I'm still amazed about how well it turned out. We were all definately on our "A" game that day. Thanks for the comment.

  • The music and the guitar are both beautiful pieces of art! Very soothing and nice!

  • I'm very please with all the great comments about this video....thanks!

  • Absolutely amazing playing. Very impressive. It must take a lot of skill and dedication to learn how to play such a complicated instrument.

  • Alex is an amazing guitar player. Would you believe he learned how to play this guitar in only a few days?

  • Friggin wow... It would be so amazing to play something like that. It seems almost...exotic. I'd love to see a harp guitar played live. So amazing...It sounds kind of like a sitar. I love it.

  • Thanks for the great comment!

  • Oh such a pasion,I can feel your music, it is really amazing, absolutely astounding, for me you are a genious,For how long have you been playing?, well i really enjoyed it,take care

  • must be a bitch to tune...
