Protecting it's nest, they fiercely defend their young and their nests, don't kill the jays since they're just doing what they are supposed to do, but keep the cat inside or put a "buffer zone" between jay and cat, such as a cage, box, house or something for the cat to hide under.
blue jays are mean. i saw one pecking a baby dove that fell out of a nest in the head. i ran it off and put the dove inside a tree hole. i noticed later that the blue jay had came back and finished the baby dove off.
of course i've seen all kinds of birds attack cats, cats eat the eggs. i used to watch a neighbors big tom cat steal another neighbors chicken eggs all the time.
