  • This ballad truly should've topped the pop charts....

  • @HoneyKone You are right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why had he to die so early.......I would be so happy to hear him live, but life is a bitch

  • NOW THIS IS WHAT SINGING IS ALL ABOUT....!!!....the best of the best I tell you guys...Dionne in her excellence and Luther giving us his honey...GREAT...!!!

  • this is so beautiful!!... im 16 years old and i loved this. this is when love was still alive

  • @freshziplock1 Dear 16 year "old" angel..... Don't speak in the past:-)! Love was, is, and will always be there! Another angel (in this life up until 47 years "old") embraces you with all his LOVE xxx

  • I love this collaboration. Dionne, the voice of the 70s. She sang up the 70s with her elegance and talent, joined with Luther's wonderful voice of the 90s and later.

I can listen to this again and again.

    RIP Luther.

  • wow miss D and mr V killed this duet i think they have the best duet that luther ever collabed with

  • @beatinitup79 funny who you should say that when Luther was asked about this in many interviews he said the same thing.

  • @beatinitup79 Funny you should mention that Luther stated the exact same thing when he was asked that question, many times.

  • @beatinitup79 What about "Endless Love" with Mariah?

  • @ewilliams09 that duet has nothing @ all on this one

  • @beatinitup79 That's true I guess, but the two best duets EVER are "One Sweet Day" and "When You Believe"!!!

  • Great duet!!

  • Great performance!

  • Two Legends singing like nobody's business. This song is so fantastic. This song is so true to life. When you know when you must just let it go and move on.

  • This is old skool at its finest!

  • Oh yea! Dionne Warwick was right there in there with Luther. LOVE THIS!

  • Damn!!! no matter how many times i come back to watch this..it always seems to put tears in my eyes..the greatest!!!!

  • Mamma mia, che voci...

  • luther is back up singers of dionne, patti stevie and Ray charles!! but now ??

here singing to all superstar like him!?>?

    nice??

  • Comment removed

  • Yes that is luther's back-up singers

    Kevin Owens/ Lisa Fischer/Ava Cherry

The were always the one the stage with him. Then you had his other backups like Brenda/Paulette/Cindy/patricia/Tawatha/Cissy/Fonzi they basically were studio backup.. But the names above are the best in the business.

  • Luther and Dionne in rare form!!! I have chills!!!!

  • What year did this song came out?

  • 1983. Its on Luther's BUSY BODY album

  • i got a knew found respect for miss Dionne wow those not were mind blowin. i love luther and i never knew miss D had in in her simply amazing. which by the way she sang the original version so amazing wow just perfect

  • this is when Dionne was in the BEST of her voice!!!!

  • hey i wonder if thats Luthers backing crew..Lisa fishcer, ??? Owens and Eva Cherry?? cant see them really.

  • Thanks for your reply Nikray-Roy Ayers jr

  • Brilliant!

    Magnificent!

    Just Perfect.

  • they should have done a duet album, I love Dionne and Luther-Roy Ayers Jr

  • Clive would never had allowed Dionne to do an entire album with only one other person say the way Dionne did with Issac Hayes in the 70's! Luther was upset with Clive for years for not releasing Dionne's 'So Amazing' as single.

  • omg i just find mysyelf replayin and replayin its jst so beautiful..its bn so long sinc i herd this song and now i have it thanx 2 kieths wordsman i am so happy ryt now

  • i love song,,and its not even played yet..my old skool

  • I always thought Dionne's style of singing was limited, at best, but homegirl came with it!! I'm impressed.

  • I always like Dionne but I thought her style was limited as well (mainly because im used to her singing all the Burt Bacharach tunes which were pretty cool) But after seeing this I was so impressed with Dionne singing those high notes and really getting down!.. i can totally see that running in Whitney Houstons Family :)

  • Absolument fantastique... C'est la première fois que j'entends cette chanson en 'live' pffffff

  • "give it one more try,, that high chest note rivals a Mariah / Whitney chest note... that part was insane. sounds like a g5 or a5

  • Count on classic Dionne to belt out those insane notes to the delight of the audience : )

  • beautiful man gone to soon

  • Just Incredible!!! Both of them. I like how they are both encouraging each other during the song to SING!!! My favorite part is at 2:50 when Dionne brings her power vocals. The look on Luther's face says it all. For Luther to be impressed mid-song says a lot about what he thinks of Dionne. I agree. However at this time, Luther's vocals were just Sick!!!

  • you just took the words out my mouth she was incredible wow i never knew

  • This will forever be one of my favorite duets of all time...

  • Lus,

    Dommage.

  • Two of my all time fav vocalists, the best duet of all time in my humble opinion. Unbridled passion. Sizzling.

  • Luther and Dionne are simply Magical singing together!! God I miss Luther and his magical vocal ability... RIP Luther!!

  • @SoulThing1981 HE will always be missed....uggghhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They brought the story and words they sing to life. The recorded version is hot but live and right here this is what it's all about not tricks or studion dubbing here live pure live uncut music.

  • OK im a grown man & im crying!!! Partly because i hope & pray that MUSIC like this will make a comeback!!YALL BETTA SANG DAT SONG,UMH UMH UMH!!!!1

  • Nobody have to make Ms. Warwick sing, she had another singer to wanna sing and she and Luther both sung this. If anything they made each other sing.

  • Thank U

  • This Man made dionne warwick sing that night and the duet is one of music top 20 duets of all time. perfect

  • My God My God My God, each time I hear it, I tremble... When Dionne and Luther takes microphones into their hands, it is like heaven went down to the Earth and touched it!!!!!!!

  • FUCKING MAGICAL!!! The crap being put out for music nowadays makes me wanna throw up. THIS WAS MUSIC AND IS MUSIC...Bring back ole skool singing, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!

  • What a class act - both of them. Today's black 'entertainers' make me miss Luther all that much more. So few follow his example....both on and off stage. Thank God he left so much behind for us to enjoy.

  • Hmmm. Well RRWendlandt, in addition to beng black, Luther and Dionne are both TALL. How do you feel about today's TALL ENTERTAINERS?

Black, tall or whatever, I truly enjoyed this performance.

  • Hmmm. Well TruthSerum101, if today's TALL entertainers are singing like this, it's terrific. If today's TALL entertainers are making 'music' with the consistent message of anger, violence, and disrespecting women, not so much.

I do understand your attempt at making me out to be racist.....you couldn't be farther from the truth. The issue here is MUSIC.

  • EXACTLY, the issue is music! For the record, today's tall entertainers are not a monolith. It's convenient and cliche to write them all off as such but that simply is not the case.

  • ALL? You didn't comprehend my original post. How many current 'Lutheresque' performers can you name today? Now, how many hip-hop / rappers? Exactly.

    Have a nice day.

  • Your original post was so pedestrian - there was not much to decipher. There are still balladeers - some of whom are very good, the same can be said of rappers who were also prevalent during the release of How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye.

  • "original post was so pedestrian - not much to decipher'" ... all the more reason you should've 'gotten it'. Point was, is, there are TOO FEW black artists making this kind of music now. I didn't say NONE were. Rappers prevalent when this was made? Hehehehe. Not by a long stretch, and not with the dominance and tone it's taken today. Count the 'bleeps' then and now. But enough already. I miss Luther and his music. The End.

  • I learned from Dionne Warwick that you don't have to be a loud singer to be a great singer. I will always love this woman....no matter what, she gave this world some of the best music of all times.

  • Your statement is so true.

  • really true!i am 17 yrs old and i love her so much!personality and talent wise!

  • they did a video for this does any one have the original vide?

  • God rest Luther's beautiful, beautiful, Musical Soul. Now, he's truly an Angel, Heaven's music while he was still with us.

And Dionne? She's always on FIRE. Such sophistication and technical skill all rolled into one.

And it's still a question, really, why she still never gets the props she so rightfully deserves.

This is a MAGICAL moment caught on tape. Thanks for sharing this. =D

  • Have always luvd Dionne since I was a little girl. Luther, everytime I hear his voice I cry. Even more now he has gone but the voice lives on. Surfing on you tube did not know Pattie Lebelle was Luther sister what a talented family. Thankyou for the music.

  • Patti wasnt Luthers real sister. Just real good friends and great singers

  • Patti ty you are right, re-watched video. Patti Labelle and Luther are not related. Good friends by family ties, but Patti Labelle did speak as a daughter for Mary-Ida (so well), so hard for a child to lose a parent so much harder for a parent to lose a child. Music and memories always live on.

  • The marriage of these two voices could have been better than in this song. It was just perfect. God bless them both.

  • You better get it miss Dionne

  • They killed it honey!

  • This clip just keeps getting better and better with each listen. I still love the notes Dionne hits toward the end!

  • I agree, she is great.

  • My God, they were absolutely gorgious in this song... body trembles while listening to it...

  • God Bless Luther Vandross...He took the best :(

  • girri mullu mosara willma tuli masulu mottmiggma wahadda huuddula moresinni!

  • E' troppo brava!

  • Their voices are that of Angels! Simply Beautiful!

  • I have seen luther at least 8 times in concert and each show was perfection.

I had tickets to go see him at Westbury Music Fair in LongIsland but unfortunatley he had a stroke and was not able to perform. I'm sure he was planning to reveal some of his new songs such as Dance With My Father. He often went to small venues to get a feel of what people think of the material. I've seen him at

westbury before and it was the best. Just him and the microphone no flashing lights.

  • I miss Luther. I remember I bought Dionne's album--yes, on vinyl, because of this duet. Love it. I saw Luther in concert, just months before his stroke. Gone too soon.

  • What year was this?

  • Fall 1983 #27 on Billboard. It was Luther's first top 40 hit. Should have been a bigger hit!

  • This show was 1988!

  • Oh, yeah, God bless Dionne....may she continue to bless us.

  • Luther will not be forgotten, as long as I live, at any rate. We need another like him.

  • Dionne's best Arista album that Arista let die.

  • legends

  • amazing. simply amazing.

  • Such a beautiful song!

  • Yes Dionne at 3:08...make the way for Luterh LOL!

  • You can tell Whitney and Dionne are related, both are amazing singers.

  • Everytime I watch this I laugh my ass off. Dionne claiming not to remember the lyrics in rehearsal and then when curtain time came she let you have it to no end!!!!!!!! You impromptu DivA!!!!!

  • Best performance I have seen of Dionne in a long time!

  • Love this sone and the two of them singing it was wonderful.

  • Luther and Dionne sing the living SHEET...music out of this song!! It has GOT to be one of my favorite clips of them together. They sang it BETTER than the recording. Oh the vocal power that they both unleashed! A performance for the record books!

  • ay yo encuentro tan sumamente awesome las notas esas que da miss. warwick, es que ella se queda tan asi, como que no paso nada, ay me encanta ella.

  • that was awesome!!!

  • That damn "one more try note" is freakin awesome!!!!-Damn Dionne Warwick!!!

  • I love this song,sad and yet uplifting.RIP Luther.

  • Baby that witch know she could sing!!!!And luther of course there will never be another we really lost a great talent!

  • My goodness, I can never say this enough, Dionne and Luther are trully performing on this song. A great coupling of two legendary singers, that gave us one of the greatest duets of all time !

  • I remember seeing this performance. For all those that don't know, Dionne Warwick was the voice Luther Vandross was inspired by the most.

  • I am impressed that she was still hitting that note as late as 1988, several years after her voice had become noticeably deeper!

  • Her head voice held up remarkably well...it was those higher chest notes that were the first to go. When a vocalist has given as much as she has vocally for such a long time and smoked heavily for just as long, of course there are vocal changes. I actually love the richness of her lower voice, and she works around her reduced range quite well...but she's a college educated musician, after all :) Love this performance and this song.

  • I like the moment at 3:06 when Luther's back-up singers can be seen obviously comiserating about Dionne's "give it one more try" high notes--sang your song, girl!

  • OH MY GOD!!!! JUST OH MY GOD!!!

  • That is not Whitney Houston. That actually is one of Luther's backup singers

her name is Ava Cherry. But her hair can remind you of Whitney Houston back in the day.

  • so amazing Luther and Dionne...SO AMAZING!

  • Ooh I cannot get enough of that "give it one more try!" high note Dionne hits about three minutes into it. So gutsy!

  • Isn't it Whitney Houston making background vocals behind them? It's so nice to see the tops of the world on one stage!

  • I am not sure if that is Whitney or not back there. Luther carried a bckg singer that was a famous skinny model that wore big hair. She was a serious diva.

  • No, she wasn't. They were (L-R) Kevin Owens, Ava Cherry and Lisa Fischer.

  • Due divinità.

  • ohhh myyy, nice song!!!

  • Classic! It's great to see Luther and Dionne singing this live after years of using my own imagination about how they sang it in-studio. The video does do the song justice. Here, they were both were in fine voice, especially Dionne. Can you tell they both loved it!!!

  • one of the greatest male/female duets of all time. right up there with "dont know much" and "endless love"

  • Did you feel that passion?????????

    Bravo Dionne and Luther! Bravo!

You gave me goose bumps! LOL!

  • What a fantastic duet. It's so great to see to friends really enjoying themselves through song, especially since Luther always stated he simply adored her.

  • I was there at this performance and it was the most beautiful performance I have seen with Dionne and Luther. I had chills back and then and still get chills as I watch now. Thank you so much for posting this one. YOu know they had a music video to this song,,,It was done very well.

  • What show is this from?

P.S. Dionne's high notes at the end are indeed mesmerizing and I love Luther's low note!

  • Dionne held annual fundraisers for AIDS for many years this is the first event, held in Washington,DC.

  • How great art they...

  • I don't know about this Luther holding back or even Dionne holding back. They both sang the song with feeling and did not oversing the song. I did not see any "DIVA" moments of anyone trying to out do the other. Luther said throughout his entire career that Dionne meant more to him than anything. They both did a great job and those notes that Dionne hit towards the end was amazing.

  • amazing duet! great live performance, thanks for the vid!

  • WOW 2 of the greatest singers, doing their thing...that was awesome....And that was the lowest note I've ever heard Luther hit at the end...wow!

  • All I can say after viewing abd listening to this is .... WOW!!! These two are a vocal match made in heaven... Dionne and Luther are superb.. masters of their craft... that's a duet!! I am surprised this did not garner a Grammy for best duet??

  • I think Dionne & Luther simply tried to bring their best and to make great music together. That's how this beautiful duet comes across to me. I doubt there was a competitive thought in either of their hearts or heads.

  • thank you for posting this.

  • Two outstanding vocalists! This is a wonderful performance. They respect each other, not like so many other artists when they sing a duet and one tries to scream louder than the other... Luther, you are missed...

  • Luther held back for Dionne!!! I don't think so. I think that both gave it!! They did better than the recording. Luther, holding back for Dionne, please, 4 what that Lady always held it down, especially from the begining and into the early 90's please!!!!

  • Luther clearly held back a little (maybe more than a little) in deference to one of his idols.

  • Maybe Dionne held back a little to give Luther some deference....just a little. It was Luther who stated that he had to make changes doing Dionne's original arrangement of a "House is not Home" because it was very difficult for him to sing.

  • OK, Dionne actually let Luther HAVE IT!!! You didn't want none of her in the '80s!!

  • Why were everything taken off? This video is proof that Dionne must be documented in every media, every possible way! pls dun delete her for whatever reason!

  • oh my god they were brilliant. no word to say how good they were

  • This is one of my best 'Luther Love songs'. They sound so AMAZING together...their notes compliment each other and not one out of tune lyric...BEAUTY!!!!

  • Luther was fantastic that night; Dionne was Dionne - INCOMPARABLE.

  • I asked for it and someone reloaded it. I remember this performance when it was originally done with Dionne and Luther, it is trully one of the best duets of all time, they sound so wonderful together totally flattering each other.

    Keep the Dionne videos coming.

  • A guy known as "Lobsterjesus" had some of the best footage available on Warwick. He was banned and his posts deleted. He has everything on Warwick. I hope he comes back under a new identity and reposts his Warwick collection.

  • I know lobster had everything!!! I am totally PO'd that all Dionne is gone!!

  • I'm tearing up! I really do love this song! Luther and Dionne should have made and entire duet album, but I guess it just wasn't in the cards. Question: Where are all the old video clips from a couple of months ago? I can't find Dionne singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic from the MLK show? My absolute favorite Dionne performance. Please re-post.

  • I agree, I remember the song from the album - I think From Within, she really did great on The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

  • Dionne, Dionne & Luther off the chains!!! Thank you Keithwordsman LUv you for this. Always loved this performance. Please, please post the rest of her performances from this night and everything you got!!! U made my day!!!

  • I believe this performance was in 1988.

  • Keith Luv u for this!! Please post everything u got!! I luv Dionne!!! All the performances that were posted is Gone. Can you make us happy again and post what you got of the rest of her performance on this night and everything else!!! Damn Man! I am happy!!

  • Oh My God! That was SO amazing. That ending was amazing and those Dionne high notes. Hope you post more good Dionne stuff!

  • anyone know what year this was from.

  • Luther called this duet with Dionne his favorite duet recording ever!! He also called it 'timeless' NCGUY74

  • timeless

  • thanks so much for posting that.

Two great artists singing together, so sweet.
