Amazing. I don't think they teach that in HPDE, that is, letting go of the steering wheel to let it spin to counteract oversteer. At least I haven't learned it in my early classes. I was there at Gingerman. Great driving on those Falkens which must have been really challenging in the rain! Have you recorded any lap times here with better tires in the dry?
You're right, but most FWD cars drive totally differently, so that would be crazy. What car were you driving? The first lap of the video was around a 1:38, thats around the fastest I've done. There were a few places I could've picked up time, but it wasn't a race and I didn't want to kill myself and my wife(the giggler), lol. I think I can find 5 seconds with some R-Compounds. I kept getting smoked in the twisty section of turns 6-9, and acceleration traction was difficult most everywhere else.
I was driving the S2000, with 4 year old OEM Bridgestone RE050s with 4/32 tread. I thought my car with these tires was useless in the rain since I couldn't control the snap oversteer. Dry was fine. Perhaps if I used your technique, I could have prevented a few of the spins in the rain??? I've rarely spun the car but in the rain on Saturday I didn't even have a chance to react before I was facing the wrong direction, and this happened 3 times!
LOL nice. Somehow I only spun once; that was because my front tire scrubbed against the chassis while the car was basically fully sideways, which acted like a brake on just that corner. There was no coming out of that. Stayed on the track though!
can u give me a estimate on ur cost, in about 2 years ima be in a position to have a toy. i'd rather have one i built for less than one i get new and get smoked buy a tuner. labor wont be a factor asi am skilled at fabrication and have frinds with a shop and grat track record
At 0:31, what is that steering technique? I suppose a "shuffling hands" technique would not have been fast enough to save you from spinning there. Nice skills!
We had a full day of rain before this video, so it's something that must have developed from the sliding madness of running in the rain. It looks like I just let go of the wheel, let it spin, and then grabbed again and throttled on when I felt we were going to stay on the track. The NSX can be a fairly abrubt car to drive when the tail starts to drift, but if you develop the instincts to keep it going, the rewards are insane.
Good job on gathering it up at :30, but a little quicker at the pause and you'll be on it!

I could imagine on the twistier sections, some smaller cars may have an advantage (like the Topsetup CRX).
