  • Not religous in the slightest, but that's the beauty of this song. You don't need to be to relate to such a heartfelt piece of music. His voice towards the end breaks my heart everytime I listen, which is almost daily! RIP, to a truly gifted man.

  • @SuperNade88 I relate to his humanity. To his brokeness. Which I totally can relate to. Without grace I would have no hope.

  • what a beautiful song...it brings tears to my eyes

  • @mallymonkey Me too. Can not listen to his last songs without tears. I think his life speaks to us all. He went from everydayman to stardom, to the pit. From the pit saw god's grace, love, mercy. We all hope for love and redemption. I know I do. That is why I listen and reflect on John's life and music.

  • jesus i love you by wesley

  • wow what a awesome song

  • the greatest attribute to JC was how he was humble enough to share his struggles, pain, and music... it gives us all something to relate to. You don't see artist like that these days. he was one of a kind.

  • MAN IN BLACK !!!

  • What a beautiful but sad song. It brings tears to my eyes cause poor Johnny went before June. He wanted to go be with her. I guess all fans knew he wouldn't have to suffer without her very long. I believe that they are in heaven together.

  • I love this song. I heard it on my cd for the first time a few years back, while trucking down the road. it made me think of my late dad.and if we don't have Jesus sincerely routed in our lives we have nothing

  • Iesus isn't in some book, nor a song, nor a place nor a heaven and not even inside you.

Iesus isn't words... which are a profane symbol. A stronghold for our minds.

Iesus is the "let go" of your common way of thinking. Redemption from your own selves....

A good teacher would be embarrased if his students got stuck in a book for eternity. Iesus was our teacher. Let's make him proud by transcending reality as we know it.

    Only everything can be nothing.

    Cheers!

  • Iesus inst here nor in the bible.

  • @atrofalo go ahead and believe what you want.... but are you seriously insinuating that jesus, isnt in the bible...you know the book ABOUT jesus?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @atrofalo It's not my place to judge you, which I'm not and NEVER will, but I STRONGLY arge you to at least read the Bible and study it, you'll find that God IS living and REAL! This is coming from someone who at one time, being a saved Christian, turned their back on Him and denied Him... and yet, I learned the hard way about Him.... Live and learn, it's the best option that we've got, as human-beings.

  • This is about a man who's lonely and wants to repent for his sins so he get be in Heaven, he wants the love of the heavenly father (so to speak) so he doesn't die alone. Just my look on it anyway

  • Wow-

    Powerful lyrics.

  • For me is about loneliness. An when ur loneliness is so loud that fills the room and then deafs your ears, you have not any other power only some faith in whatever everyone of us believes in. But, sometimes after many broken up erotic dreams and fleeing expectations you tend to think, hey maybe its my problem as a person maybe i am love impared. Some people have born without legs, some are unable to hear but i, i have born unable to be loved. And thats a thing i have to live with.

  • @wonderwomangr You are not unable to be loved. I love you. :)

  • What an important, amazing man. If all people had his passion and will to life a better life, the world would be a better place.

  • great great song why listen to him if your gona dislike he if you dont like him dont listen to him 10 stupid ass ppl we dont want to listen to your dislikes

  • Oh Johnny, Jesus heard you... you dint die alone- you won millions of hearts!

  • i love this song love his voice he always sings the truth on all his songs i was not happy when he died this song makes u think u know

  • Good thing I don't have religion, I have faith, to all you guys arguing.

  • i love this song

  • Jesus... the most revered name, the most hated name, the most feared name....why?

He was who He claimed to be is what I believe!!!

  • @kiltor2 I agree. He was who he said he was. He claimed to be like god. He lived it out in his life. He loved, he healed, he helped. He died for you and me. What more can a man do, to lay down his life for his friends?

  • A very very honest confession in lyric & song, ... sung as only Johnny could do it.

    he made it.

immortal in heaven. ... immortal on earth via his music & life.

looking forward to meeting you & June "Upstairs," bro.

  • This song is powerful and a personal favorite of mine. The man behind the music makes the truth and passion in it come out. He lived a hard life, one that most of us wouldn't even dream of, and he never lost his faith. God bless you Johnny. Happy Early birthday.

  • I agree with @Ruggedzach i dont think its a message about faith, i think its a simple man's last offering to a world that caused him so much pain.

  • When things are going wrong declare constantly that you are not going to be afraid or intimidated by any outer condition. The more afraid you find yourself, the more need is there for doing this. The most important time to say, "God is my refuge, I am not going to be afraid," is when your knees are knocking together.

  • Jesus, my love wasn't true. Now, all I have is you. All my troubles, all my pain, is gonna leave me once again....

  • @kyoshiina the greatest lyrics of all time.

  • im a really messed up addict. but when i heard this song i cried and gave my life to Jesus. everytime i hear this song i cry. this man isnt singing from the flesh but from the heart where the spirit lives and thats why it's so beautiful. if u dont believe in God after seeing what happend to johnny after he gave his life to him then u r one of the blind ppl and trust me Jesus can and will heal u if u let him. i let Him and my life has been great ever since. †††

  • @fansofbands stay strong brother

  • @fansofbands I am truly happy for you my brother.

  • @kyoshiina and im happy for myself. Jesus is my rock, my shield, my strong tower, and my fortress. he has held me strong ever since i gave up my addiction. he is repairing my life. if you are a christian, which i suppose you are, just plz pray for me. i need the strength to carry on sumtimes and i can only find it in the Lord. †††

  • @fansofbands of course I will pray for you my Brother. Because I am my self one of His lost children than came back to Him. I feel you, I wish you the best and I pray for you.

  • @fansofbands God Bless you and may he walk with you in all of your days. Now go tell his works, rejoice, and walk the line brother.

  • just a cool song from the man...........

  • The 9 that voted down must have broke there hand's and clicked the wrong button.

  • listen to his voice, listen to the words...the solemness in his tremble...this song isn't about religion, it's not a praise song to Jesus...it's a man on his knees trying to find faith and strength, looking for something more in a time of nothingness.

  • @RuggedZach and i disagree. this is a song by a dying man seeking repentance from a forgiving and loving heavenly father. i know what it feels like to be there being an addict myself. Jesus loves us and he wants us to turn around from our heathenistic life-styles and wicked ways and follow him. Johnny's life is not a story of a man with faith, but a story of a man who backslid from God and found himself dead and then repented. his life reflects the prodigal son in the bible in luke 15.

  • @RuggedZach from what I can tell, Jesus and religion are very distinct entities. They connect only where Jesus ripped on the particular religious leaders he encountered. I think JC knew JC well and visa-versa. In this song, Cash was likely speaking for himself but no doubt singing as a voice representing the people he loved, as always. Searching? Yes, but not blindly. Nothingness? No, I don't think so.

  • @RuggedZach but for him religion and precisely redemption are very important in his life, so i think that it's a tribute for what religion has brought in his life

  • @RuggedZach I agree. It sounds like a dying man who's reaching out in fear that he's going to die alone and he needs someone.. someTHING. And in a turn from what might be atheism he reaches out to God.

Other "faithless" / "nonbeliever" people have done this before, fuck, I'VE done it before and I'm decisively not Christian.

  • @RuggedZach - It isn't many people that "get" a song like that. I find it frustrating actually...most people don't even pay attention to the words of a song.I ask people, even my own wife included "why do you even listen if you don't know what they are saying"? the answer is always "I just like the sound if it". These people have no idea what they are missing. The could be listening to a song about chopping up little babies and they would be tapping thier feet! Music without meaning? pointless

  • @RuggedZach Acctualy, This song is not religous,BUt however, It is about Jesus,

  • @RuggedZach you dont know shit, pal!

  • @lirumlarum777 Whoa, whoa now...let's settle down. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that it is YOU who may not know shit. Now, how does that feel? See, not so very good...Youtube is no place for such uncouth comments and general miserableness. Why you gotta be so miserable? Sounds to me like you need a glass of whiskey and some Conway Twitty...then continue to drink the whiskey untill you vomit whatever is making you so miserable...out of your damned foolish body. Probably a tapeworm.

  • @lirumlarum777 What is it with children coming on here and being inconsiderate pricks. Grown ups say real grown up things with words and such, and you come along with cursing and no actual argument, leaving me to agree with Rugged and suggest that maybe you are the one who doesn't know shit. Go ask your mom who Johnny Cash is, maybe you commented on the wrong video or something....

  • @justinde14 Oh my, that hurt... Well, maybe I know more about this song and you ignorant sons and daughters of regretting bitches can go fuck each other? That would be nice, wouldnt it?

  • @lirumlarum777 Once again, you argue with nothing. You have not proven to me that you know more about the song, so I'm going to say...."I WIN" and believe I will ignore you from now on. God damned moron.

  • @justinde14 Oooh thats ma jam, THATS MA JAAAM! I'm A BIRD MOTHAFU-KA I'M A BIIIIIRDD!!!

  • @RuggedZach

"it's not a praise song to Jesus..."

    but yes, it is!

  • @krampampuliszka Yeah, its everything RuggedZach mentioned. The first thing he said is the last thing, same difference, same broken hallelujah.

  • @RuggedZach youre perfectly right - song is NOT ABOUT JESUS, moreover CASH was never a christian... GOOD JOB SHERLOCK !

  • @nickcaveonline You must be really short knowledge in Johny Cash life. He was a Christian. He bacame a preacher and sang and preach in many churches after his long career.

  • @nickcaveonline You must be really short knowledge in Johny Cash life. He was a Christian. He bacame a preacher and sang and preach in many churches after his long career. May GOd have him in his glory!

  • @sjstrictlykings that was only a laugh at some IGNORANT ATHEISTs and their stupidity/harrasing Christians even here... didnt mean to disturb you... Bless

  • @nickcaveonline I've gotta say...I'm not atheist at all. So your comments were pretty stupid. Im a fan of Cash, have been since I was a child...I mentioned a comment on here, and I get blasted by a few smart-mouthed, ignorant "christians" who leave me to believe they dont know shit about exactly WHAT they believe...or Johnny Cash. I agree with @sjstrictlykings. You have short knowledge of JC's life...and probably many other things.

  • @nickcaveonline p.s...bless.

  • @RuggedZach

    thewarningsecondcoming . com/reject-the-work-of-new-age-spiritualism/

  • cant hold my tears when i hear this song

  • your´re never alone with Jesus!

  • great man , great singer

  • Cash never found religion in the sense of denomination, but he did find Jesus! AMEN!

  • A giant in his time. There are fewer and fewer heros today. Cash was great right to the end.

  • I don't wanna die alone eather.

    I'm glad I have Jesus.

  • I love God, I love this music :)

  • One of the most brutal opening verses ever...

  • @NightOfTha44 brutal?

  • Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny , on the Beyond The Misouri Sky, did the splendid instrumental version of this...

  • johny just wandered of the path from time to time , as we all do. god bless him.

  • Type BRUTAL BEGINNINGS in the top bar and WATCH. AMAZING VIDEO. The REVOLUTION is COMING.

  • We come into this world without anything and we leave without anything....don't we?

  • Johnny I think came back to his First Love, God before he went home. Amen.

  • Dont be judging a man like Johnny Cash im sure he had enough fangures pointed at him during his life time... and for Gods sake how can anyone know if johnny cash has religion thats between him and God. So stop this stupid debate over religion and show some respect. Im so sick of both christians and nonchristians thinking they have to go poking around in othere peoples religion. And dont play that stupid blame game you idiots.

  • mr cash has always been one of my fav singers from when i listend as a chiled with my dad to now he lost his way a few times but i think he always knew that god was with him and in the end i think he went to june with a happy heart and a song still in his soul

  • Amazing.

  • Religion doesn't bring conflict, MANKIND brings conflict there is no teachings in ANY religion that is there to cause conflict, so think about that before posting your ignorant anti-Christ bullshit..

  • @MatthewGen1 Religion doesn't bring conflict? Take a moment my friend and look at all the conflict in the world today. Muslims are harassed because of their religion, blood is shed everyday over religious conflict. Going back to ancient times and the Catholic church (Crusades, etc) religion has been the focal point of violence in the world. And until we accept the fact that there is no such thing as god, we will never be able to live as one.

  • @kingharvest11 Did you even read my comment..? I'll explain it again because your obviously thick skulled..

All of the above you mentioned is to do with mankind, if you can find me a page in the bible that tells man to harass Muslims because of they're religion, or a page that told man to crusade against them back when, then ill take my words back..

  • This is from the album "Unchained." The second in a series produced in the 1990's by Rick Rubin.

Johnny Cash was born again in 1971, or thereabouts.

Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

    Believe it.

    Or not.

    At your own peril.

  • 6 people don't like Jesus..

  • Now, where's that kleenex..

  • 4:32 is such a sad picture :(

  • No offence to anyone but my opinion is that "Religion"is not more than a way to prove that you believe in Christ. It has taken me my whole life to say that i do believe in God but i dont need a religion to prove it.Jesus didnt have religion he had the father and that was enough.Just sayin

  • @snappybones

And Christ is all we need. I agree with you full heartedly.

  • Fuck religion and all the conflict it brings to the world. The man still plays great music though

  • This is about the only song that ever makes me cry. So beautiful. I'll see you in heaven Johnny!

  • Can someone please tell me which album this is on? I'm a big Cash fan and I thank God everyday for the time he allowed Johnny to spend with us. I know his music touched many of us.

  • Wow. Simple, honest, beautiful, and bursting with spirit. J R was an example, a true role model in his life as well as his music, and i love the man. Just remember, ain't no grave gonna hold our bodies down. God Bless U All.

  • TOTAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. I'm the biggest agnostic around, but I absolutely love this song.

  • @MrBigwong

It's the passion and the honesty of it, the human yearning. The older I get the more I realize spirituality has little to do with religion.

    Cheers!

  • @MrBigwong .......the same here for me. You don't have to have a religion to love this song. I find it so sad - there's a sense of desperation to this piece. Perhaps there's a God to answer, or perhaps there isn't - the lyrics work both ways, although perhaps the latter scenario is more poignant.

  • I believe this song is a cover from the band Spain.

  • I was lucky enough to see Johnny Cash in concert at Texas A&M University early in his career. Really enjoyed it. That was a long, long time ago.

  • please shut up with the religion arguments and enjoy the song. personaly i am an atheist but regardless i think this guy was a genious.

  • I found this guy through an atheist

  • Those people that thinks that if your "sinning" you must not either know religion or Christ or Spirituality. Trust 100% of the Christians "sin" just as much as the non. The truth is there is no difference only some believe in a book and some don't. Just as well I don't believe what most school history books say.

Were all the same religion or no.

When people tell me to go to hell I don't care I tell them to go to Hades because both are just make believe.

  • @jfeltes2

Christians admit there sins, that's why it's called being "Born-Again" , that is why there is great importance, GREAT importance, on death of Jesus, because by his blood we may be forgiven of are sins.

The Bible even says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

  • @RufusRamen

I don't care how many times your born there is no difference between the Christian and the non. Heaven, Hell we are all here now and where we go is arbitrary to this life. None of us KNOWS the truth but evidence doesn't make a good case for Christianity.

Sure the bible says we all sin even the Christians but that wasn't my original point.
