@1outofservice Been wondering the same thing man. There ain't nothing in the US that even comes close to this. I did find out though that Coga's truck has a C18 CAT in it.
@farmerallis - sure there is - several guys in Iowa have a drag race series in which they have taken old marine diesels / or 24 litre equipment engines and modified them... Gus's Pete has a 24 litre detroit in it - about 4400 hp and about 7500 ft lbs.... it will smoke the tires for about 400 feet and turn a high 11 second quarter mile.
@latanea That would be nice to see. That's a big ass motor though, these trucks here are just modified highway diesels (except for that C18), and are company trucks that are probably worked every day. A 24L motor would require heavy modification to the truck and frame just to have it fit. That's why I think these trucks are so unique, they appear stock, but they run like a mo-fo.
@bykashka75 You're right, the C18 is not a highway engine. There are quite a few of them configured as marine motors for boats, and a lot of them are in CAT excavating machines and Challenger farm tractors.
@farmerallis lets say, some one took his C-15 and replace it with C-18 and run it on regular highway truck. if he is gonna get caught, (and how- i wonder), whats going to happen to the guy. BTW what is the ratio of the rear end of this trucks, if you know?
@bykashka75 Transplanting a C18 into a truck isn't going to get anyone caught or in trouble. I highly doubt the police, or DOT cops would care, or even be able to tell if the engine was a C18 or not. The only place where you would have trouble is in competitions, such as pulls or drags where they may not allow anything but original highway engines in the trucks. And I would assume the rear gears in these trucks are the same or similar to stock since these trucks are still on stock size tires.
@bykashka75 Highway engines are not restricted to 16L. There are a few highway engines that are 16 liters, like the Cummins KTA 600, or the CAT 3406B, which is 19L. It's not the size or fuel efficiency of a motor that would make it "illegal", it has to do more with the parts that go on the motor, such as large turbos and fuel pumps that would be "illegal" for road use. I would imagine most of these trucks have illegal parts on them, but in reality, DOT police would never be able to tell.
@farmerallis what about fuel economy, does size of the engine affect it? from what i heard, that a lot of guy put larger engines and then lower endine RPM's , like from 1500 to 900, and that way they save on fuel and gain power ? do you know anything on that
@bykashka75 Fuel economy is kind of a hazy area; so let me simplify. Yes, a larger motor will not work as hard to make the same amount of power as a small motor. However, also realize that the larger engine (being larger displacement) will burn more fuel per stroke. So you can see that there is a trade-off. Fuel efficiency can be controlled greater/more directly with rear gearing, tire size, weight of the vehicle/engine, exhaust back pressure, and transmission gearing.
@farmerallis there you right. large motor burn more fuel, but i think what those guys do is to lower RPM, so crank shaft will revolve less therefor may compensate in the fuel economy for a smaller engine but with higher RPM. when you said about trasmissoin gearing, what did you mean. i always thought trasm ratio is 1

@farmerallis So those engines are c-18 or c-16?

@farmerallis where do theytake em, i mean you have to get it from the mines or something. Becasue from what i know those engines not street legal

@farmerallis so why highway engines are limited to 16 liters the most, or it has to do with fuel economy.
