jill pike is off base here. i admit kal penn could've done better, but he wasn't terrible. overall, the movie was very well done, and even better than the book. the book read like a long short story and did not allow the reader to get deeply acquinted with the character...it just gave a narrative, whereas the movie gave the viewer greater insight into each character.

all in all, i'd say 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Also, the role of Gogol (played by Penn) is vital to the storyline, which this woman seems to not understand.

I agree the actors that played father and mother were absolutely outstanding, not totally surprising as they are both excellent actors from India. I think they ought to have recieved a few awards for their performance.

You know what the movie was about? It's about uprooting, starting a new life in the distance from anything familiar..having to start from scratch, trying to provide your children a better future. Yet when the kids adapt to the new culture, the parents worry about how they will keep the tie to their roots.. something all people leaving their place of birth share.

It was a beautiful movie and a great cast!

So Jill Pike doesn't like Kal Penn's acting. I'm sure he lost sleep over this: )
