  • well..I see the points.. that video was stupid calling Australian ppl rasist and all, but...still do not see why we shouldn't eat the whales..Japanese whaling is legal, and whales are sustainable. whaling is strictly controlled by WIC and all...why not???whales were something my grandma fed my mom when Japan was a very poor county. although most young ppl does not eat them anymore, a lot has a taste for it, cause that is a taste of home for them. why someone take that away?why whales, not cows?

  • Japan quitted its international isolation policy because one country asked Japan to be its re-supply port. They came to hunt whales for their oil and clothes and sardines for food. Oil in Japan was 100% from plants, and eating whales were rare then. It was sometime before the fossil oil was found and used.

    After WWII, there weren't enough food in Japan, so eating whales was recommended by occupation forces. That was the beginning of modern whaling in Japan.

    However, I think if anti-whale-hunting people accuses some Nordic countries along with Japan, they wouldn't be that mad.

    I'm in Japan for a long time, and most of young Japanese persons have never eaten whale meats. However, I see many "I eat you instead of whales, you monkeys" kind of comments in the internet. No wonder why they've got so mad.

    It's not Japan who caught too much whales at the first place.

  • Japanese had not eat beaf or pigs before. They should eat fishs and whales for their protain intake. Per-capita consumption of meat exceeded that of seafood for the first time in 2006. The luck of protain made them small and they always lost football game in WC. Do you want Japanese keep in luck of protain ?

The BLUE WHALE is nearing extinction, as are SPERM WHALE, and ORCA WHALE. In full there are 67 species of whale, and Japan only hunts ONE... the MINKE WHALE. The MINKE WHALE is the most populous of all of the whales, and that is why they go all the way to Antarctica rather than whaling in their own waters where they'd be hunting an endangered whale!

    Never forgot them. Many times I've stated Japan is allowed by the International Whaling Commission to hunt 1,000 whales per year. 900 NON-endangered minke, 50 humpback, and 50 fin whales. All legally.

    I would have thought that the many 100s of Fin whales killed added up to 1000's but given the fact they are so big and Japan is so new to whaling I concede it is unlikely.

I do not see anything wrong as long as they keep number of whale they hunt.   • The action of Japan is always reasonable against the results from scientific research. Only 8000 of the bowhead whales in the world and this is the truely endangered species. Being the minority or only the 67 whales can't be the excuse to get it. I wonder why anti whaling countries can agree to them. If you can permit that as sustainable, you will lose your claim against humpback research hunting. I want you to know the basic knowledge of the whale numbers of each kinds.
