And just google "Tier One schools in Texas" and you'll see many lists which say Rice, Texas, and A&M are the tier one schools although tceh and Baylor are trying to become tier one soon.

Several say that tier 1 typically refers to top 50 in US News and world report. Neither of us qualify. You're 66ish and we're 80

I also heard that A&M is considered tier 1 in the area of research but only in that regard. Based on superior funding and ridiculous endowments Baylor can't attract the same type of research.

Either way USNWR lists both as tier 1
