Although I sympathize with the family and think that it is sad that a young girl took her life because of something that happened over the internet, they are placing too much blame on the mother pretending to be the 16 year old boy. They said that the adult used the words that slowly pushed megan to the edge of the cliff and then nudged her off. Obviously they could have held the adult completely responsible seeing as how she was eventually indicted.

I agree that kids need protecting, but it should start at home. If the mother was concerned enough to talk to the police then why on earth was her daughter still allowed to use the account.
There's no excuse for bullying, but we all know it exists and parents need to play a responsible role in protecting their kids. And not just with bullying. Why would any parent let their child talk to complete strangers, let alone someone they actually admit to being suspicious about!

Being online makes people think that what they do or say doesn't matter. There is no difference between saying stuff live and saying it online. It's still hurtful and it's still inappropriate. To lose an irreplaceable precious life because of that is SO sad. I love the net but I hate this aspect of it.
