  • Ahhh Ralfy.. I certainly am glad I discovered your channel. You are like the William Wallace of whiskey reviews lol. Cheers..

  • JW green at costco is 40$. And from red to blue. Green is the best.

  • @Equity213

    YOUR CRAZY!!!!!!

  • Finally found a bottle of this in Alberta, paid about $65. This stuff is amazing. Knocks the pants off the black. By far the best vatted malt ive tried yet. I love the depth and complexity in the nose, and call me crazy but I get kiwi notes in the palate.

  • @pumbaajk

hello. The best way to store whisky is to keep the bottle upright, never let whisky touch the cork. Also you can buy a rubber sealant from any hardwear store (diy in uk) and seal the bottles around the neck as to make them airtight. I have done this myself with great results. Also keep them cool and away from sunlight. Hope this helps.

  • @Star12121 thank you!

  • my favourite whisky, original glenmorangie is just behind id say although im getting a bottle of jw double black nxt, any other that you can recomend??????

  • @dannyh7676

    Highland Park 12yo

  • @ralfystuff nice one i shall give that a whirl.

  • You do have hair!!!!

  • if i was to want to store this for my son's 21st birthday, which is actually 21 years from now, how is the best way to do so? cork deterioration is my main concern. thanks!

  • 30 pounds?!?!?!?! the translation is 47 Canadian dollars but here in my local store in Canada it's for $60...with taxes almost $70 which is almost 45 pounds. :(

  • great review ive only had black green and gold and i think the best tasting one is the green version blue is to expensive to try and red sounds to terrible to even try thx for the review ralfy

  • One of my favorites vatted malt. You have to try it.

  • I bought the Green Label today, so I will try it tomorrow! Must be good..

@ralfystuff are those special glasses and can you buy them online? Really like them!

  • Comment removed

  • Can anyone make a good distinction between Johnny Walker Black and "Double Black"?

  • @CornishRicky

    DB's a bit peatier !

  • @ralfystuff

Oooo... I do like peaty! :)

  • @ralfystuff Dear Ralphy, does Johnny Walker Gold benefit from any water?

  • @Tetrahedragon2

    not really !

  • If you just start at the cheapest, when you aquire a taste, you only ever like the cheap stuff The expensive stuff tastes terrible, but the cheap stuff is smooth and mellow.

  • Also, you may find it interesting to note that Green Label is purely a blend of those four malts mentioned on the packet apparently! Great videos Ralfy, would love a chance to have a dram with you!

  • This is my all-time favourite Vatted Malt! It's a wonderful whisky.

  • Hey Ralfy lof your video's. You seem to have completed the Johny Walker range. Can you do the Gold Label as well.

And I have multiple botles in my colection that have a "reserve" mention on the label instead of an age. Is Reserve just an other way of saying that's it is a jong whisky ?. Or is it the same as wine reserve.

  • @ArieVisker

    no Gold review planned.

  • I would be all over a purple Johnnie! "Johnnnie Purple" sounds just way too good to not make it.

  • ....your personal opinion of JW Blue is true indeed!... the same monies can buy a much more distinct and sophisticated whiskey! For less than the JW Blue, one can enjoy the refreshing and cultured taste of Oban,or an Aberlour 18 year. We all appreciate an honest opinion : )

  • Make video on Gold and blue

  • I also got this Whisky at a supermarket at ridiculously low 29,99 € :-) a day later, they put it up to 35 € ;-) lucky me!

  • keep it green guys

  • During a Cruise years ago, my wife and I "Stocked-up" at the end of the pier in St. Thomas and we bought plenty of Red of course, then I splurged on 750 ml Green, and 750ml Gold, neither of which I had ever seen before. Green, I agree was the best of the bunch, Gold was mellow, and Red still showed it could stand up to ice, water, soda et al. I don't know why Black, if it can't stand up to water or ice, is considered a "step-up", and I drink Blue only if someone else is buying.

  • LESS THAN 30-!!!! holy shit thats like the prize of jameson in finland

  • Ralfy, have you ever done a review on Firebal cinnamon whiskey?

  • @111455

    not yet !

  • You have an engaging personality. I look forward to watching more of your reviews. Sweet. Glad I stumbled upon your channel.

  • does 30 pounds mean 30 dollars...b/c i work in a liquor store and we sell it for 60..

  • Hello Ralfy, can you do a review on Buchanans whisky please

  • Personally I tend to think that Green Label tastes like it has too many ingredients and thus tastes unbalanced neat, although for putting in ginger ale it is superb. Gold Label addresses that problem but at £65 there are an awful lot of lovely single malts to compete with.

  • Looks good if i get a bottle of Moonshine for X-mas it will be the best gift

  • Ralfy, is it true that JW green will be discontinued? Does it mean I have to start stocking up on it?

  • @darencewee

    just rumor !

  • @ralfystuff Not just a rumor, I'm afraid. I can send you a link about it (I somehow can't type it here, thanks youtube, I guess).

I've read that it'll be available for some time yet (to 2013 for example) but the last bottle has apparently been bottled and no more will be coming out. The "Gold Label Reserve" is apparently going to replace it from 2012 forward.

  • @splice42

That might explain why Diageo released the new Platinum Label in Asian markets. So Gold Label will be replaced with Platinum with Gold shifting to replace Green Label.

  • @ralfystuff I emailed the folks at Master of Malt and they say Diageo has stopped distributing it and that there are only 19 left in their warehouse! I've bought my bottle :P

  • @ralfystuff I genuinely hope it's a "New Coke" marketing strategy, as I thoroughly enjoy it, and I don't want to see it go away.

  • Just bought a bottle its a beautiful thing, I usually drink jack and coke or do shots, i refuse to get drunk on this stuff though, sipping it at room temperature is great, my first scotch as well. Though my favorite whiskey is still makers mark.

  • what is your favorite

  • I'm afraid that batch differences have lowered the quality of Green label! I had it 2 years ago and thought it was really good, I recently bought a bottle and it was very average... In fact, the price was also $20 AUD cheaper! The new Double black is actually really good.

  • less than 13 pounds of weed?

  • Just overwhelmed with all your videos so staring with a few i have tried...this is a great review again, love the sense of humour and witty style of review..excellent stuff!...i will def try and see all your reviews...until then another thumbs up from me!

  • Johnnie Walker Green is the best!

  • love this stuff......now shut up and drink it!!

  • Thanks for this great review, Ralfy. I tried it and loved it. Green label is my stand-by whisky now and also the first I give to people who are new to whisky. It is a great time to drink it, too, as the price is discounted in Virginia until the end of the year.

  • THANKS! I like Black Label so I'll have to go try this!

  • @mrbubetube Got a bottle today. GREAT sipping whisky! I'm impressed! Better than I was expecting. $60 for a 750ml bottle in California.

  • Great review.

  • What is the difference between a malt and a blend?

I'm sorry, I'm not from English speaking country, so I can't seem to find the right translations for it.

  • @DireStraitsInImpala

a Malt is a whisky made in pot stills, a blend is a mixture of malts or malt and grain whiskies.

  • @ralfystuff Now I understand this. Thank you!

  • god damn it pls take a sip first man

  • You're having far too much fun with this 'stuff'. Don't change !!!

  • Tesco have this at £20.80 at the minute, an absolute bargain, and cheaper than the black label!

  • @johnnyards o really ??? Black Label was 20 quids few weeks ago and now I purchased Chivas Regal and Glenfiddich for around 20 each.

Havent seen green or blue labels in Tesco or Sainsbury. (LONDON)

  • Great reviews! I went out and bought my first Talisker today. Superb!

  • your passion for whiskey makes me want to drink better quality stuff!!

  • @TherealEddyfroston Hahaha I know right? I drank red label yesterday but I feel like if I see green and black label today I might just buy it! Blue and Gold are more expensive so I'm not that excited to buy those lol

  • Hey ralfy I'm about to graduate high school and want to buy a bottle of whisky to celebrate. I'm looking to spend maybe $70 AUD (Around £50). I was looking at the Green Label but was wondering if you'd have any recommendations?

Cheers. Love the reviews by the way.

  • @scottygeetar

    Green Label's fine ! for a change you might try Highland Park 12yo . . . good luck !

  • @scottygeetar im graduateing year 12 tomorrow aswell, so i went out and bought myself 101 proof wild turkey for $55. its pretty amazing =D

  • thumbs up just for the intro :P

  • I think I'm going to go out and find a bottle of this tomorrow.

  • What are some other Malt Blends would you recommend? I love this Whisky and am interested in the Linkwood Single Malt. Have you reviewed that one?

  • @BShell89

Look out for Big Peat (peaty) Matisse & Clan Denny . . . there are not that many to choose from as this is an 'unfashionable' form of Whisky.

Linkwood is decent, lighter speyside, (87/100)

  • @ralfystuff Thanks

  • do you ever give out bad grades :P

  • @egbduf

any whisky that would score under 80 points does not get reviewed. ... I just would not recommend these whiskies.

  • @ralfystuff dam lol too bad cause id like to one episode see you review one you feel is truly awful :P just to see your reaction :P

  • @egbduf try his red label....

  • I'd like to see what marks you'd (Ralfy) give the Johnnie Walker Gold Label and the Blue Labels

  • @CAD390

    Gold 86 & Blue 85

  • @CAD390 He did say blue label was overrated in his opinion. :P

  • @Ojokernegro

    for the price, yes.

  • I could review drinks with you, seems interesting

  • Yesterday I tried Black, then Green, then Gold. If you do this, try the Gold in the middle because after the Green, it seemed too mild for the price. Starting with the Gold today, I was more impressed but the Green is still my favorite of the three. The malts used here are also on my singles favorite list so I'm quite happy with the blend.

  • @alsakb100

    I concur......

  • ilike it Nice keep going

  • it's much better than many more expensive bottles

  • Is US$60 too much for this blend? I should probably go for a single malt for that price instead... I enjoy the Black Label, but never tried the Green Label.

  • Have you any plans to review Cragganmore 12 yo?

  • @mrsle

yes, later this year or early next year.

  • Your reviews reflect the saying "you get what you pay for" quiet elegantly, don't they??

  • Im new to drinking whiskey and your reviews are really helpful to pick a good whiskey to try. I have had Jack Daniels and most of the cheaper whiskeys but even a newbie like me knows those are harsh drinks.

  • Green is Good!

  • Green label is an insanely complex Scotch, and quite simply, as good as it gets.

  • JW Green is the pick of the JW range in my opinion...definately a good nose...definately needs the time to open up...being a blend of pure malts it's a winner in my part of the world (NZ)...i purchase this in 1 litre bottles on special @ $60.00 NZD and i am happy to pay this price for it.

  • Is there any chance you'll be doing the other three readily available Johnnie Walker blends in a review? I'm really interested in seeing your take on Gold, Blue, and Swing.

Big fan, keep up the awesome work!

  • @armchairjock

later perhaps, but I don't readily recommend Blue as it is over-priced.

  • good quality instant coffee granules = Oxymoron

  • How much is 30 lbs?

  • @millerhighlife2112

    13.60 kilogrammes

  • @millerhighlife2112 Haha, great answer. Here in Michigan with taxes I pay $58 and some change at my liquor store. Black Label is around $30, i'd try em both, i'm my experiences most of my friends like Black better.

  • Johnnie Walker Brown - peaty! Funny, but have you ever had their Double Black? Supposed to be a more peaty version of Black. Unfortunately, it's only in airports I think.

  • @degmar

yes, saw it in Glasgow Airport ! ... bought Ardbeg Uigy !

  • zmień twarz

  • @mrowkenesser

    ... zmiany, co?

  • Ralfy will you ever do a full review of Monkey Shoulder? It seems quite affordable for a vatted malt. Cheaper than alot of blends here in Australia.

  • @mrsle

no plans for a MS review as my last taste at a Festival was not a great experience !

  • whats your oppinion about adding water to this one? thanks

  • @MrVirusSnake

    yes ! ... but just a drop.

  • @ralfystuff Hi Ralfy Great reviews! Ive developed a real interest in whisky over the last couple of years. I'd be really interested in starting some sort of whisky business of some description. One of my mates who works for Whyte and Mackay said that despite the fact that scottish whisky brings in about 3 billion profit a year, its very much a tapped market with the distilleries and alcohol companies holding a monopoly on both distribution and sales. Just wondering what your thoughts are. Cheers

  • @Eddiclight

the market is well tapped ! ... any business ideas ! see the guys at the forum whiskywhiskywhisky-com for opinions.

  • guys put away ten or twenty bucks outta your pay check what ever you can afford, and then buy your expensive stuff like the blue label if your like. although if heard the blue label is wayyyyy to over priced for what it is

  • I have been on a malt search looking for new ones to try and so far I think i like Johnnie Walker black label the most, so I think I am going to try green label next because single malts so far aren't floating my boat as they say...

  • I bought my first Green Label today and really enjoyed my first glass. I usually have the Black Label as it has got a decent standard for a good price. Though that Green Label is probably going to be saved for the weekends.

Could I have another recommendation for a nice new Whisky to try in the same price range as a JW Black? I've had it a number of times now and would like a little variation.

  • @hillysats

    Teacher's Highland Cream.

  • @ralfystuff

I'll give it a try is its Ralfy approved, i've seen it on the shelf plenty of times.

  • What is the best scotch in your opinion?

  • @snizshizzle

    Brora !

  • Would you ever review a wee dram of blue label?

  • @radicaledward40

... Blue Label is over rated.

  • @radicaledward40

    ... perhaps later !

  • Johnny Walker... la la la la la

    watch?v=zJz9iiKxg0w

    ;-)

  • god damn it why is everything so much more expensive in australia

  • nice reviews ordered the 4 whiskeys from red to gold :). Cant wait!

  • So I tried JW blue label yesterday and I have to say that I like it a lot. I have not tasted any other blended whiskeys in blue label's class, so I wouldn't be able to say if it is worth its price. Can you recommend any other blended scotchs that compares to blue label? I will say that I would probably not pay full price on my own. I split the bottle with two friends

  • @mmdojr81

Try Glenfarclas 30yo ! ... it is better.

  • @ralfystuff

I have to admit that I am partial to the blends. There are few single malts I really like. Most are too peaty or smokey for me. Thanks for the suggestion

  • @mmdojr81

it's expensive, and many similar priced Single Malts are better.

  • @ralfystuff Hmm, I just turned down the offer of Blue label for a price much nearer to £20 than I could have imagined. Less than the Green Label which I would have bought given a better price. Tobermory 10 made my collection, it is unchillfiltered, no caramel and 46.3% abv. for £22 Very nice.

So what's a good price for the Blue Label, same as the Tobermory, same as Ardmore? Should I be paying less than what I can get a 'craft bottling' single malt for?

  • @TheBeebopper

... at up to £50 it's worth trying BL, it is old, brand-heavy Blended Scotch with a price tag usually about £140

  • @ralfystuff It's hard to believe, I can remember the price being around £60 years ago and then a publican told me four years ago that it was around £100 (who maintains about 300 Irish and Scotch bottles), but there were older bottlings which fetched around £180 -£240 Well if I didn't misread it, and the offer still stands, I'll go for the Blue on the basis that it offers more than a good 18y single.

  • @TheBeebopper

the blue Label won't offer more than a good 18yo Single, but will offer more than a bad one !!! ... good luck.

  • @ralfystuff Yeah well I missed the deal of the century. It's probably fortuitous for I have been reading up about recent goings on with Diagio/Distillers/Johnnie Walker or whatever they wish to be known by, and I bet there are a few choice words for that. It seems that they have been acting with the same callousness as ever. Along with ring a bling ding its another brand I'll be avoiding. I don't think I could have enjoyed it. It's good to have choice.

  • i got a botle of this for xmas and my grandparents and i had some and neither of us were very fond of it. though i tried it again neat and it tasted better but still a little harsher then i would like, and the flavours are not distinct enough, all the flavours feel lost and over crowded

  • @fastdude7

... either Whisky is not for you as a taste, or you simply need to persevere and give it more time to generate some familiarisation.

  • @ralfystuff maybe, but i find the black label to have its flavours blended together better and doesn't have such a wack like the green label. Now i don't mind high strength whisky like laphroaig quarter cask ( <3 laphroaig quarter cask) but it just wasn't as well blended or mellow as i would like

  • I got the green for $33 US. When I got home my girlfriend dropped the bottle on the ground. The scotch was shaken. Do you think this will change or ruin the flavor?

  • @mmdojr81

... unless the bottle smashes, ... you have nothing to worry about.

  • @ralfystuff

ok great, thanks. Me and some friends went in on a bottle of Blue label. I have never tried it before. Ill let you know if I share the same feelings about it

  • @ralfystuff

    lol.

  • @alanbrockwayjr

caramel E150a is atrificial colouring to make a whisky look 'better' The problem is that if there is not the right amount of colour coming from a cask (so added colour is needed) then there may not be the right amount of flavour either.

At the high cost of Malt Scotch, everything should be natural about it.

  • Hey Ralfy, can I please poke you in your Scottish ribs??

  • @THEAC83

    no.

  • Scotch in supermarkets. Man I wish where I live :/

  • Great job on these reviews. I am a huge Malty and I am a promoter/brand ambassador for Macallan, Highland Park, Famous Grouse, and Remy Martin Cognac Products in the United States (originally from Transylvania, Romania). I get to try all of their products and get freebies from time to time. I used to only Johnny Walker for a while about 2 yrs ago.

  • can i just buy a black label and let it sit for 3yrs, is it the same as green label then?

  • @zhen898

... you can certainly give it a go ! ..... but 30 years would probably be more effective.

  • @ralfystuff

What do you think of the gold label? I recently purchased a bottle and I am very pleased with it, though it may be a bit pricey. Especially served at freezing temperature without water. Also I'm thinking of purchasing an Aberlour, specifically the a'Bunadh. I am very excited about trying that one.

  • @pwnerer101

... I appreciate Gold Label is decent, however it's pricey for the bottle and I will not be freezing Whisky any time soon.

... A'bunadh is generally fine although Batch 30 is a bit 'fresh'

  • Love your stuff . Very informative yet homely. Makes me feel like your popping into my living room for a chat. Saw that your gonna review bourbon. I like scotch but Im a huuuge bourbon fan. Look forward to seeing how my views on Buffalo trace/Jim beam/Elijah Craig etc differ from yours. Keep up the good work man. From an Englishman In Taiwan.

  • @Futre4

... well thank you for the compliments and funnily enough BT and Elijah Craig will feature in the forthcoming American Spirits Vlogs.

... I take it you will be trying Kavalan in Tiawan ?

  • @ralfystuff Yeh Kavalan is an interesting one. Its pricier than most mainstream high end scotches ( ages 15 and to 21 ) yet its but 3 years old. It is a good scotch ( can i call it that technically?) for sure . Having tried the standard kavalan ( costing 2000nt) Id say it is comparable to a decent 12-15 year old. But for 2k I can get an good Macallan or Glenfidich or even 4 bottle of Black Grouse. Look forward to your bourbon reviews.

  • @Futre4 No we can not call Kavalan a scotch, cause it isn't! I think 'whisky' or 'malt' are the words you're looking for!

  • @bajsbopper ahh cool, the process and the taste are the same , but cheers.

  • Too bad this isn't available in Canada, as it is a classy malt blend indeed. But if I am allowed a personal opinion also :) the Blue Label is in a class by itself, so far I haven't found anything better, so they may be entitled to charge whatever they wish for it. For my money though, I would be forever happy with the GL, if only I could find it.

  • @beyond7 This IS available in Canada. Well, at least in Quebec. I bought one a few days ago in Montreal... Try SAQ.com.

I then went to Ralfy to get the best whisky review there is. I like to drink a first dram -and write down my personal feel of it- then listen to Ralfy! Have fun.

  • I live in Taiwan and I picked up a bottle of this for about $28 US from 7-11. Talk about bang for your buck. This is one that gets me thinking.

  • @matt999tye man i was looking thru my older posts , and saw this comment. Im also in taiwan and have been drinking JW Green. Cheers to you my friend.

  • sounds good

  • Ralfy, how you doing there?

I'm not quite a Scotch expert, but intend to get there... I'm from Brazil and here those drinks are to much expensive...

Whell I was planing to get a Nadurra, But for some mistake a friend of mine got me a Glenmorangie Original, did not taste it yet, but as seen on your reviews it is ment to be very nice...

Sometime ago I tryed a Oban 14yo and felt it a little bit flowered... Can you confirm me that? do you intend to review it?

    Thank you!

  • @atunfunfunca

... I do intend to review Oban 14yo sometime at the end of the year, ... but I will probably review the Nadurra sooner.

Perhaps you may be the first to blend Scotch and Cachasa !

  • ralfy i agree about the geen label is a great whisky.but i would love to see you review the gold label 18 years.

  • ralfy, how come there's no review about bunnahabhain 12yo yet?

or at least, could you give me your opinion on it? not sure what a bottle to get next, as there are quite a few ones on my "to try"-list!..

    regards

  • @Almlacher

...Bunna is the gentle Islay Malt, often overlooked but rewarding, I consider the 12yo to be on my 'to do' List even if it isn't quite as complex as it used to be.

Although you do get peaty versions it is the less peated traditional Bunna which works !

  • whats under the hat? lol its in the title. nice review though

  • hello ralfy i love scotch and bourbon but was wandering what your views would be on bourbons like jack daniels and four roses etc also i don't know whether you enjoy bourbon but i was thinking if you do which bourbons you would recommend?please reply because i think your a bit more experienced with whiskies than me.thankyou

  • @mikalwhit

... keep tuned ! ... American Wiskey/Bourbon reviews later this year.
