I was going to ask whose ethereal voice graced our ears throughout this hypnotic sequence, but thanks to sanvean79, I now know that it was Diamonda Galas, whose stock just went way up in my town. What is weird is that it reminded me of Lisa Gerrard, who is, I suppose, the best...and so I had pasted in the search window, the term "Sanvean", as it is my favorite of Lisa's. And then to find out that the person who gave me my answer, had the same name I had just posted. Synchronicity, what else?
One of those films you don't so much see as experience ... and then think about for a long time afterward. Jarman was a genius - his book "Kicking the Pricks" is a good companion piece to this film - haunting, lyrical, unforgettable in its indictment of the English class system.
Big Jarmen fan got to meet him at the premier of 'BLUE" what an amazing artist and his films are so wonderfull. that is Tilda Swinton ripping the dress off.
it's from the Saint of the Pit cd, title is in Greek but translated as "Deliver Me", not to be confused with "Deliver Me From Mine Enemies", anyway it's the 2nd track on the cd... The end of the track is quite unsettling...
This tune by Diamanda Galas is good.

1. What is the connection between this and the famous painting? 2.what does this scene symbolize?

A small part of this song, was also used as a background sound in a scene in Dracula (1999).
