@porthpatho sachin, dravid, laxman will bat till they are 50 or even more because you need serious skills, confidence , physical and mental stability,,, which i am sure that they have tons of that energy . not any other team have that i am afraid
2 things - 1. There will never be a cricket side more feared than the Windies of the 80's & 2. 7 for 1 is unbelievable against any team, but to do it against the Aussies at the height of their success is absolutely stunning
Damn I wish we had a team like this one instead of the shitty ass side we have now. No wonder West Indies cricket stinks!
I'm guessing the Windies overcame the 'blow to their hopes' Carl Hooper's absence brought. Ambrose was just about unplayable that day, Border was in good nick to get an edge on that!!!
Yes because gambler has averaged nearly 100 on sticky wickets which were uncovered. Oh wait no he hasn't. He is playing in an era with the most batsmen friendly wickets going around. Plus bowling attacks which have been reduced by rule changes designed to make batting easier.

I saw this on tv as it happened. Tony Greig had rubbished Ambrose before this spell. Didn't hear much from him after this. I've watched test cricket since '75. I hadn't seen anything like this before, haven't seen anything like this since. I struggle to pick my top 5 pace bowlers. Ambrose is never left out of my lists. Can't choose between Lillee, Roberts, Garner, Holding, McGrath, Thommo, Marshall, Khan, Dev, Reid, Flintoff, Donald, etc etc
true but gambhir has the highest average of 09 followed by sehwag also cricket is a team sport not a person sport so yeah i mean india rarely plays as a team i agree usually a one man or 2 man show like sachin's 175 against australia
@sensational1982 You make two incorrect assumptions. One that I give a crap about one day cricket. Two that one day cricket involves something more than just a lottery (although it at leasts involves more guile than that bore-fest 20-20).
I dont count Australias world cup success highly, I do however count our status as the number one test team for over 10 years highly.
@porthpatho78 You are wrong. The new Tendulkar: Gautam Gambhir, new Dravid: VVS Laxman, power batsman of India: Sehwag. The list is not too big, but even a small list of great batsman of the India team can support India in the number 1 spot.
Laxman is 36 so I wouldnt expect him to play for too much longer. Sehwag is good, Gambhir I'd grant you if he was better outside of India. So fundamentally two batsmen.
@porthpatho78 There will be more to come - you never know, some may beat Sachin or Lara in terms of records decades later from now... but finding the gems for the team is the hardest thing to do,and that is when the team goes from hero, to zero. Examples: Current Australia, West Indies, and New Zealand (or also Pakistan) - in the journey of finding new players to replace the retired, legends, they all dropped in rankings. Opposite for India,Sri Lanka, and England - they found and fixed their gems
@WhatElseExceptNature You can't say that for India, given they still have the older players in the team. Wait til everyone quits, and more pressure is put on the "gems". As happened to Australia.
@porthpatho78 True. Very true. I don't think Australia have any chance of claiming this world cup, despite their WI win streak, since they have absouletely no solid player to depend on right now, except maybe Watson, Johnson, and Haddin. India though, have a big chance since they have many of their old players left, and same for SL and England - and also South Africa. Bangladesh are on the verge of going from zero to hero in my opinion - especially with Shakib equipped. I am just predicting.
@porthpatho78 3 solid players aren't enough for a World Cup win. This being said changes the sarcasm in your comment to a compliment - thank you, porthpatho78.

But you did not make any point which would help your argument. Rather you concentrated all your energies on the word 'dumb'. Guess thats the best one can expect from a 16 yr old posing as a 32 tr old. You can write me back after at least 5 years.
@porthpatho78 dravid already out of ODI squad and young players like yuvaraj, gambhir, raina playing well (atleast in the world cup), india growing srong, even minimum populated countries like australia can produce such players, why do u think a overpopulated country like us can't produce atleast on the base of probability?. no offense but am jus pointing out certain points here, and dont blame me for being indian (after all am enjoying this game as an escape from all these political corruptions)

@octobermadhan Good points there in terms of population. But I also notice that another is needed for production of players and at the moment Australia has issues. A good example in India is its decline in hockey. You guys used to be the dominant power in world hockey, but now declined I think to about 8th in the world. Simply because of lack of infrastructure.
@porthpatho78 i accept that ppl here had a craze on cricket even some of players done some extraordinary things in chess, tennis, weightlifting, hockey, badminton, kabadi, ppl even recognize it all, thats a curse of indian sports.
@porthpatho78 as far as infrastructure we didnt have it all, even in our family system expects us to grow up with ur parents , study well , get rankings, get a handsome job, marry gal and reapeat the same wat the parent's did, there is no adventurous life of being in ur dreams atleast especially in ur carrier, except cricket there is no infrastructure for any sport in india(except the rich ones). i admire those players who were sticked on their decisions and living on their dreams.
@UglyCheapGujji Knew someone couldn't get by without a convict comment. Thats cool, proudly descended from convicts, the beauty of our country is it allows you to jump castes.
@porthpatho78 : tendulkar nd dravid are still playin nd still india is at top.. world champions wid sachin nd no one test playin nation wid dravid nd sachin...
CEL Ambrose. Great bowler indeed. It would be interesting to have him play test cricket in this era though, facing batsmen like Ponting, Yousuf, Sangakkara etc. I think Tendulkar has played Curtley but I don't have memories of such an encounter.
He would killed them. The modern players are not use to pace and bounce. The players you mention are not much better than their predecessors, who you probably did not see. For Ponting (Border). Yousuf (Miandad) and so on. Same hight and same technique. See "Pace Like Fire". Pace, Heigt and Bounce is a vicious cocktail!!
i really want the west indies to be good again. please keep playing cricket and fuck all the american bollocks west indies we all loved you when you were the best
If ever there was an abject lesson on how to bowl at the WACA, then this is it.
Perfect length for a very tall man and he was getting steep bounce in the corridor outside off-stump. If you notice Mark Waugh, Border and the others really had to play at those balls, resulting in an edge.
Healy getting out to a 'walking prod forward' is legendary as well! Great bowling, sir..
Quite true bud. I am Indian and used to be so scared of this guy and Walsh. I would pray to God that somehow our batsmen just tolerate these two. I would definitely like to see such talents in WI again. In fact I dont see any such pace attack anywhere now-a-days.
i dont want this to sound racist because that is not my intend but i have faced a few black bowlers and i find with the red ball it is hard to see out the hand. Does anyone agrees
the guy has to be faster than 140km/hr... dat tym we did not have such technology to measure the speed ....look how far the slips are...n the guy at slip was catching d ball waist height....he has to be really fast ambrose
He would release the ball at about 9 feet high which is about 280cm, hard to imagine trying to face someone like that who got great bounce and bowled at over 14okm/h

the guy has to be faster than 140km/hr... dat tym we did not have such technology to measure the speed ....look how far the slips are...n the guy at slip was catching d ball waist height....he has to be really fast ambrose

He would release the ball at about 9 feet high which is about 280cm, hard to imagine trying to face someone like that who got great bounce and bowled at over 14okm/h

Look how far back the slips & gully are at around 2m 05secs.
Cricket today doesn't really compare.

Ambrose, Walsh and bishop were the last famous West Indian fast bowling trio. After them West Indian fast bowling reached its worst quality ever.

Ambrose was a legend. I still remember when at the age of 36 he bowled the whole session against Pakistan and put suffocationg pressure on them.
