When I said call out the streets I didn't mean memorize them. When the trains come out of the portal the streets are listed at the center of the overpasses as the train goes thru them. Second I did not say call out every neighborhood, but mentioning that the train was in Manhattan and The Bronx gives a point of reference. The junction out side New Rochelle is significant because that's where the north east corridor joins Metro North. More comprehensive is good thing.
I understand. You should check out my more recent series and see if that helps. I will try to remember these things when I do my next series. Thanks again.
I made one other entry about being from New Rochelle. If you wanted to make this a perfect video there are a couple of key points that you forgot to mention. First of all when the train passes an overpass you should have called out the streets and indicated the the train was in Harlem. Wheh it crossed the Harlem river you should have indicated that the train was now in The Bronx. and finally, you should have called out when the train arrived at the junction just before New Rochelle reshoot..
I appreciate your input, but I can't make all of that happen. First of all, there is no way I am going to learn all of the street names just for this video. There are possibly over 100 streets that the New Haven Line crosses. It's just not happening. Second of all, I don't think it's necessary to state every neighborhood or borough of New York City that the line travels through. Finally, it's called Shell Interlocking. Happy?
do you know where i can find a track map of the metro north or a diagram of the metro north that shows all the junctions and signals because i have a simulator called trainz classics and it has the built in harlem line from bronxvill-southeast. I have created it up to wassaic but i want to know where the signals and junctions are because i am doing railfanning for my first time this summer on new haven line and i want to build it from the new haven line down to grand central terminal.
There's third rail in Grand Central because it's underground and there's no room for catenary. Also, third rail is a fairly recent technology, while the catenary has been on the New Haven Line for hundreds of years. They either figure that third rail is too expensive to install, or they just haven't gotten around to putting it in yet.
@treesandcoffee Catenary systems are used throughout Europe, on some of the fastest lines in the world as well as street railways [trams]. I think the 'third rail' system is only used in subways.
WOW what fond memories! I lived in New Haven (Hamden area) and used to take the Metro North everyday to NY For work....I left CT after 9/11 ( I worked as a RN in the ER) and have not seen GCT or a Metro North train since...they were my fav trains to ride.....what memories! Thanks for a great video....liked the scenery a lot!
Well, since you commented, I prefer the New Haven Line. It's along the Northeast Corridor so it is busier and there is a wider variety of trains. The Hudson Line even has Amtrak. If anything, the Harlem Line is the least interesting and the most nondescript of any of Metro-North's lines. Please do not make any negative comments in the future. Thank you.
thanks a lot 4 the annoucements becaus i will not know were we r.

Where are the overhead wires for the power?
yarmo28 1 year ago
This portion of the line uses third rail power. It switches over to catenary between Mount Vernon East and Pelham.
treesandcoffee 1 year ago
@treesandcoffee Any idea why the two systems?
