@agt144 It is the correct way they pronaunced it, Kaezar.
C was pronaunced as K. The later gayification of Latin language led to the ridicilous abomination of the language, which is today spoken only by pompous foosl, who are unaware of their ignorance, or are in denial.
It is possible the artists making Caesar's busts either hid the fact he was follically challenged as a gift to him or they just carved him as acceptably hirsute. And it depends on when in his life the bust is created. Who knows? It's sort of like today when movie stars and beautiful people get certain things airbrushed out.
I just re-examined Caesar's official Bust, and he is bald on his upper head, but hair abounds otherwise. So it sounds like the sculptors can be trusted--besides, the Romans were fans of candids, accepting age and so forth. Today, we live in a culture of perpetual youth, where older people are despised; in Rome they were venerated more or less.
@slayerming1 that was a bit of dramatic flair. My point is that there is an entire industry to try and cover up age. It's rude to ask someone, particularly females, how old they are and so forth.
Age is something in Western culture that is seen as something to be avoided as much as possible.
If I recall correctly, the general who was awarded a triumph had the right to paint his face orange/red, in order to make a direct connection with the god Jupiter. I believe he became something of a half-god as a result.
@scottweise18 The face of the man being honored in the triumph was painted red to resemble the face of the statue of Jupiter Optimus Maximus in the Palintine Temple. Roman statues were not left as white marble, but painted and dressed.
Senate was corrupt and Julius Ceasar should have just had all of the bad senators executed. Keep the system but just get rid of the bad apples. Sort of like today with the Senaators Feinstein,Schumer,Gore,Clinton,
Boxer,Pelosi, all having invested US tax dollars in the enemies of America and pushing foreign treaties such as the Kyoto
Well I am gonna assume you know that Rome came ages before the Nazi's. The flags you see there were based after archaeological findings, paintings, carvings, remains, etc.
So to agree with coumarin Nazi flags look Roman.
And if you are as educated as you claimed you are to patio87 then you would know that Hitler fancied himself a sort of Ceasar and designed much of the Third Reich after Roman design and tradition.
What i am saying is the design of the banner bears a great similarity to nazi flags of the 30`s,replace the eagle with a swastika and see.If you look at old nazi films like Leni Riefenstahls you will see what i mean.Hitler clearly wanted to equate the evil third reich with the nearly as evil roman empire. And yes i do know everything.
Actually your 'text' in the video is ironic, as the guy on the chariot holding the laurel crown behind Caesar (or any triumphant general) would be repeating 'remember you are only mortal' or something to that effect... I don't know if this continued during the emperors though, but probably not (and they were the only ones who could receive triumphs).
actually any popular and victorious General could receive a Triumph at the discretion of the Senate, Gaius Marius (Caesar's uncle) once received a triumph after he demanded it of the senate. The person on the back was a slave who would hold the crown over his head and mutter "Remember thou art mortal"
I meant emperors were the only ones who could receive triumphs or be saluted as imperator (since generals were fighting under the auspices of the emperor). Obviously Marius (and Caesar) were not living during the Empire... Triumphs were somewhat common during the late Republic (Caesar had 4 in a day or something, Pompey at least 3 IIRC), during the Empire not so much (the generals were awarded triumphal regalia but I don't think they actually Triumphed as generals used to.

Julius Caesar was egg-bald and he often used a laurel wreath to hide his shiny head. Er war jedoch ein strahlend General von die Romer.
zeekwolfe 3 years ago
And there was writing that he had blond hair. Ciaran Hinds' performance as Caesar was very, very good even if he wasn't follically challenged.
hollywoodwerewolf 2 years ago 2
yes, undoubtedly. Plus, busts of Caesar showed him with a set of hair, whether or not that was common courtesy, I don't think so.
Busts of Scipio Africanus depict him without hair, so I don't think the Romans necessarily gave much thought to whether or not baldness was an issue.

@beepandbop Nonetheless, old people are not "despised". They are the archetype of the wise and clever.

any one when know how 2 get ahold of rome season 2 soundtrack?
joward2 3 years ago
Not so far, unfortunately. But I know they reused much of the Season 1 scores.
agt144 3 years ago
the music for this scene is very well done not as good as octavians at the end of season 2 but still good
joward2 3 years ago
Thanks. I thought it was really funny that they used the same bit of music for Octavian's triumph that I used in my video for Caesar's.

because that is the nature of people.

Ignorant white man say "Swastika is ancient
european symbol: Swastika is from Upper India
in area near Myanmar. Symbol is 20,000 years old and was around during the time of Atlantis, but it was used by the Ramayana
empire;Asian Aryans.Original Aryans had darker tones and straight angular noses.
Hitler bent the swastika symbol the opposite way which is the wrong way. He lied about
everything.
