And even if someone did lose their jobs - losing a home they could afford - that is still not grounds to give them tax payer money to bail them out of their mortgage. While I do feel for the innocent foreclosure victims, I believe it would be better to have had them file for bankruptcy protection.

No wanting a home is not a prosecutable offense, but wanting and buying that home when you know full well your budget will not support said home is. Those lenders also deserved to get prosecuted, but it was not their job to do people's budget. If you can not read a lending document to the extent that you don't know what your payment would be or the specifics of the language then you should not be signing the document.
