Now that I think of it, Bambi really did the parent-child relationship right. In most children's movies, the parents are either under-developed, comic relief, or something for the child to rebel against.

In this film, the bond between Bambi and his mother is so central to the story, and so very moving. Lion King and Finding Nemo are the only other two examples I can think of with such positive portrayals of parents with their children.

The fact that they are all animals might be a message.

One of the best things about this movie is how it mixes soundtrack and atmosphere so perfectly. Just look at how that storm scene was put together. It's really engrossing. And the animation has a special feeling that isn't exactly present in more recent Disney films.
