The original release of Hillsfar came after Pools of Radiance. The idea was to experiment with new gameplay ideas between the release of Pools of Radiance and it's sequel, Curse of the Azure Bonds. The PC version was pretty fun.
One of the selling points was that you could export your characters into Curse of the Azure Bonds, so that you would start with more powerful characters at the beginning of the game - which always made me wonder why they bothered making an NES version of Hillsfar...
The reason why this game had the Nintendo Seal of Quality was that the publisher was under contract with Nintendo, so they were allowed to put out whatever bullshit they wanted. As a result, the NES was plagued with shit games, including a tarot card game of all things.
This was a good game on the Commodore 64 and MS-DOS computers, so why did they have to make it shit on the consoles? Proof that computers are always superior.
but again; no wonder you feel fuck; because hillsfar doesn't suit well with other type of computer than IBM. In IBM - it's pretty good. I used to play this game back in the days (after school). To me; it makes me calm and relax. Love the game. But i can see the difference here when using on other platform (u use amiga? commodore? here). Hillsfar is build for IBM fans only - don't take too serious man...the game itself is not as serious as pool of darkness, radiance, azure bonds and other D&D
man...you play the game covered by your pissed off manner - and u made it. Some people CAN't play covered with that manner - they just throw it away. Done. But you...YES! Congrats.
I genuinely like the PC version of this game... But wow, the NES version of this game sucks big, wet, donkey balls! This game wasn't much of anything but an excuse to level up party members before Curse of the Azure Bonds, but because characters couldn't be transferred between cartridges, the NES version of this game serves no point.
Dragon Strike was decent for the NES? I hated it, but that's compared to the PC version, which is millions of times better!
shitty video games stand on their own as entertainment, why not give an authentic review in your real voice with real reactions and thoughts instead of failing at impersonating someone else and coming of as a transparent wannabe douchebag?
you have no talent at all for comedy, try sincerity instead.
When this game came out, these were really unique aspects. You neglect to mention that it does have dialog, explorable parts, and customizable characters all of which were totally unheard of at the time of its release. Yes, it's a boring game NOW, but it was my FAVORITE game as a kid, and you don't need to review any more classic games.
Are you people retarded? This game blows, it's not even a classic, as the reviewer pointed. You people just suck, you think your opinion matters/is better...but no, instead of pieces of shit like Hillsfar, go play Gauntlet or something, better than this BORING game.
Would you believe that the MS-DOS, Amiga, Atari ST, and Commodore 64 versions of Hillsfar were actually developed by Westwood studios, the same company behind the C&C Franchise?
On the C64, you could import one of your characters from Pool of Radiance and play. The sucessor tp PoR, Curse of the Azure Bonds, also allowed you to import the character from Hillsfar, which basically meant you could have a buffed up main character to bring into it. But other than that, Hillsfar was a pretty useless game.
This game is a special kind of shitty game Thee3nd.
According to Wikipedia this game was released on November 4, 1993, over two years after the Super Nintendo was released. By then the support of the NES was wanning for the SNES.
I did some research on Hillsfar for you Thee3nd. Apparently it was also avaliable for the Amiga PC, DOS and the Commodore 64 and all the others were considered superior to the NES version.
I've owned both the C64 and DOS versions so I can tell you this: they were equally sucky as what I saw in this video. The game "Hillsfar" was a bad game. Hopeless.
Fair enough adventurestud, its just that I've never played them. This research is from Mobygames if you want to find out where I got the information from.
$50? i could get ninja gaiden 2 on xbox 360, or hitman blood money (the god of stealth action games) or Assassin's Creed (the other god of stealth action games) for that much, or maybe a few dollars more! This game, on the other hand, is not worth $50.
This is just my opinion but well... Maybe you should come up with a better ending line. Peace out... I remember that being said to me many times in the past. Most of the time by ebayers playing Diablo 2. They would lol and rofl as they spammed guided arrow with their inventory packed with hacked poison charms. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, peace out is fucking annoying.
SD78 beat me to what I wanted to say. The whole point of this game, on any computer system, was a corny action game to level up your Pool Of Radiance character in order to tear shit up on Curse Of The Azure Bonds! THAT'S why you get all those HP at the end, which makes sense if you're porting a computer game charachter between 3 different games, but makes no sense on the NES =/ Why the hell they ported this game to the NES is way beyond me.
You were dead on about this game. The concept looked kind of cool from all the text in the beginning but it really goes down hill from there Not to mention with all that text there's not really even a small story or plot to speak of. This made Deadly Towers look awesome in comparison. Thankfully your detailed review helped me to laugh at this needlessly frustrating game.
I actually zapped this game in the microwave after playing this piece of s__t. The best part of it is how it sparks in the microwave and the cartridge melted and start off a show. My kitchen smelled for a bit, but it's a hell of a lot better then playing this game from hell. Heck, it's not only worse then Heros of the Lance, but it's not even make sense to the Dungeons and Dragons series.
I played this for like ten seconds....and then threw it in the garbage cause I didn't wanna be caught dead owning this piece of (say it with me now) SHIT
Nobody forced you to watch this video. It's for entertainment. He's a great reviewer and he just wants to put something out for people to enjoy, but there's always douches like you who can't just sit back and enjoy it.
If he deserves to get kicked in the nuts for this video, then judging by your videos you should be castrated with a rusty fork. Get bent.
I actually find the looks of this game appealing, it seems there are numerous interesting ideas put into. It is marred by the lack of fine-tuning it appears.
One thing yes the NES versions are horrible but on PC hillsfar is like 5/10, Dragon Strike is excelent 9/10 and Pool of radiance is a classic 10/10...the Dragonlance crap is horrible on PC too - 1/10
actually i found the urgency of this guy's voice rather tedious. At least the game is less available than this video. In fact it's probably almost entirely unavailable by now. Why are there nintendo reviews on youtube anyway? i think i missed the rise in popularity of this anachronism...
I had this for my Commodore 64. Although the graphics were better, the game still stunk. Fortunately, I was a huge C64 pirate in the 80s and 99% of my games were illegal copies, including Hillsfar.
Actually, I don't think you are. He relies on swearing, which gets old, and makes numerous mistakes while sometimes rarely commenting on game mechanics. antihero84: The music is from level 4-2 of Ninja Gaiden I, and the song is also played at the very end too after the awesome ending goes on.
But Ninja Gaiden II was arguably the easiest of the 3 NES ones, and NGIII is DEFINITELY the hardest.

Hi,
You can control horse speed and with good timing its not hard. In the arena there are several
opponents that require study of their tactics and tells to defeat. The darts are just good timing and
not required. Only a few buildings have plot goals. Theres only a few easy to spot unpickable
tumblers. Hillsfar is a short bonus game in the rpg series to give your characters a fun exp boost.
Your untimely review and lack of perspective make your review a waste.
