  • Subbed, wish there were more of these online.

  • Thanks! This is really interesting. I love go. I don't want to go Pro or anything though, I just play for fun.

  • Really awesome video. I'm 9 kyu. +.+

  • Amazing, thanks a lot

  • thank you so much for the translation. i know how to play the game, but not dedicated by any means, so I've never seen a professional game commentated. i must say i love the lingo, ("if black crawls, white stretches," eg.) Very organic and intuitive-- in a way I imagine was your point to @gustavonarez. If that's the case, the Chinese presentation itself reflects the culture of this game. Myriad simplicities compounding into the next order of magnitude! haha idk. I bet it's easier said in Chinese

  • Thanks so much for the subtitles!

    :o)

We appreciate all of your hard work & generosity!

  • And Im sure he has it memorized his an 8th dan, alotta of players can actually replay a whole game if they've been playing for awhile, becomes second nature

  • So happy it was subbed!! My! Chinese is a Lil off so subbed really helped:) thanks!

  • I wonder if he has the game memorized

  • @drecklia yes he does

  • a white peice fell out the ban its next to it

  • I understand chin complete but I can't understand him completely his grammar is extremely weird

  • what a GREAT video, so helpful

  • This is excellent; I'm new to the game of "GO" and its hard to find English commentaries on the game (much less from games of Lee Chang-ho). Thanks =]

  • this might seem strange but the way he plays the stones it's just beautiful to watch

  • just noticed that the YOUKU characters in the lower right corner are upside down!

  • Lol Feng Yun 9P reviewed this same game for us at camp. She even made us memorize it. Probably got it from here.

  • what kind of board is this guy playing on?

  • i wonder if he realizes there is a white stone in the black stone bowl?

  • excellent commentary! I don't understand Chinese, but even the translation was good.

  • This is really nice, are there any more of these types of commentaries?

  • @z11223344 Thanks. :-) I've not had the time to make any more of these, but you can check out "gocommentary"'s works on YouTube.

  • @xorandor thanks, where do u find the raws for these though?

  • @z11223344 Chinese search engines.

  • @gustavonarez Not only would that never happen, it'll be a great loss to the world if that ever occurs. Just in the domain of this game, if you understand both languages, you'll realise that there are many concepts that are much more succinct and apt in Chinese, compared to English.

  • @xorandor and here i was thinking on learning japanese :P darn! ;P

  • @xorandor Not to mention that there are probably more chinese than English speaking people on Earth. we really ought to save THEM the trouble (like that would ever happen though :P)

  • @xorandor only because your english is weak. I am bilingual btw.

  • @xorandor The same can be said for any language. Chinese is only 1 of many languages where complex concepts are concisely described. Mayan languages and other indigenous languages of Mexico & Central America have vocabularies rich in meaning. I like German because it is can describe in one word a concept that in English might require 2 or 3 words.

All languages are products of the sociocultural experiences of the people that speak them.

  • lol chinese the next super power bitchhhhh better learn ur mandarin

  • @gustavonarez how could u say that? Learning Chinese is so rewarding, learning all the characters and everything....I thoroughly love Chinese, so do millions of Americans

  • @gustavonarez yeaaaa no...go die

  • @gustavonarez rather getting all the chinese to adopt english as their main language, you could just adopt chinese as your main language. Saves billions of people the trouble. thanks :D

  • @izanam111 i would probably have to learn 10 languages to survive in this shrinking world. Learning just 1 international language would be much more efficient. However, that would imminently lead to lost of culture.

  • @96515325 I have yet to see anyone die because they don't know 10 languages. 1 international language is a great idea, in fact, i urge animals to learn it as well. It'd be very efficient indeed.

  • @izanam111 Your sarcasm is only barely humorous to the uncivilised masses.

  • @gustavonarez english speakers should adopt chinese as their main language and save them the trouble. after all, there are more of them than us.

  • @nactan you live in a cave.

  • @96515325 the holy cave of the ancients.

...just in case you're the least bit serious: bit .ly/pIpQS

  • @nactan I know both anyway. So I just need to learn spanish to rule the world.

  • @96515325 nah, mandarin alone has more speakers than english and spanish put together. mandarin speakers have already become Masters of the Universe.

  • I love go, it's such a joy to watch this. I like the commentator really, he has a nice voice, unlike those annoying female commentators. :)

  • 7:42

    I19?

  • mistake on the subtitles.

3:00 not "light", he's saying "Since it was Lee Changho's star point, he worried that he would stretch. If it was his own star point, then this would be more advantageous."

  • @MSJjoshua Disagreed. Listen carefully to his commentary, if you understand Mandarin.

  • @xorandor Disagreed. He said 星 (star point), not 轻 (light).

  • That doesn't even make sense even if you don't understand Mandarin. The star points are all occupied. I've also re-listened to this segment several times on the original video, it is indeed 轻。

  • @TAPpika @TAPpika Also, in the context of the game, and his hand actions, it's obvious to me that he means that the stretch would be a light-move that works in conjunction with the black stone at the star point, hence his pointing at it.

  • Chinese is my mother tongue, so if you don't believe me, dont.

The star points are all occupied of course. Reread my first comment. That's why he said it was Lee Changho's star point. If it was his own star point, then this would be more advantageous.

  • @MSJjoshua Hmm, I think you're right! I'll fix this error by inserting a caption, and will upload a new version of this video when I have the time. Thanks for spotting the error!

  • thanks for believing me!

  • isnt mandarin a fruit? LOLO

  • i understand chinese

  • i dont get it

  • This game looks very interesting... I might try it out.

  • Please do! Google for "interactive way to go" and play through the tutorial. After that, practice with this program called "Igowin" (if you're using Windows).

    Have fun!

  • If you want more information, try "Sensei's Library" or "Interactive way to Go." They are both really great resources that allow a person knew to the game to have a great understanding of it.

  • thanks

  • I'm brand new to go, any good places where I can learn what this guy's talking about?

  • This video is targeted at slightly more advanced players. Google for "interactive way to go" and go through the tutorial, that was the way I learned.

  • senseis(dot)xmp(dot)net, gobase(dot)org, goproblems(dot)com.

  • Did he memorize all the moves?

  • Most of them. He glanced at a kifu during the later part of the review. All professionals and many amateurs can recall entire games from memory.

  • Surely he had studied the game to make a good commentary before this cast. Remembering a game goes quite fast if youre used to it.

  • yeah i can speak mandarin!!

  • thx

  • This is awesome, I hope you find time to do more of these. Thanks.

  • Thanks !! xD !

  • Thank you very much! Good job! Could you make also subtitles to: Japanese Shusaku documentary - 伝記の碁打ち本因坊秀策? (there is a topic on godiscussions about this film).

  • Thank you too for watching! I don't understand Japanese, only Chinese and English, so I can't help with subtitling that video. I'm a fan of Shusaku, so i'd love to see the subtitles being made someday...

Please share this video with other Go fans!

  • i understand chinese do u know how i can get access to commentary like this over the internet?

  • Great that their is actually a go video explaining in English. Great explanation of variations, I deeply appreciate the upload.

  • 翻译的很好啊

  • 谢谢!^^

  • nice! a go video on the popular vids of the day! keep up the good work

  • Wow really?! Could you send me a screenshot? :-)

  • You did a fantastic job, and this is a wonderful resource. Well done.

  • Outstanding. This is first rate work.

  • That's for praising my work. :-) Please send this video to your opponents! ;-)

  • Great! i have been looking for something like this for awhile.

congradulations on making the AGA e-journal, btw :)

  • AGA e-journal? Do you have a URL or screenshot? :-)

  • Hi. You mentioned help? I'm willing to time/typeset. This would be great for the Go community.

  • Awesome! I've sent you a message, check your YouTube inbox. :-) Thanks!

  • very nice, thx. hope to see more :)

  • Thanks, and I hope to make more too. :-)

  • Good idea, good execution, and you chose a good lesson to subtitle.

Just watch out for its (his/her/its) and it's (it is). :)

  • Thanks! And yeah, got to keep a lookout for those. Hopefully, with a few folks helping me, there'll be less grammatical errors for the next video... whenever that appears. :-)

Please let other Go enthusiasts know about this video too!

  • Great job, very enjoyable. So rare to see something like this. Thank you!

  • And thank you too! Indeed, its rare, this might even be the first English-subbed Go-professional-commentary video!

  • Thanks for this. It's not too difficult a level either.

  • You're welcome, and i'm glad to hear that. May I know what's your current playing strength?

  • This is a great idea, youtube is indeed lacking a Go community, or rather much of the west. Hopefully, this will turn into a new window of opportunity for introducing the game to others and helping others improve. If i may ask, where do you get your raw videos?

  • thank you, nice video :)

  • Glad you enjoyed it! Don't keep this to yourself. :-)

  • Thank you very much for doing this.

  • You're welcome! Please help spread this video to other Go players. :-)
