thank you so much for the translation. i know how to play the game, but not dedicated by any means, so I've never seen a professional game commentated. i must say i love the lingo, ("if black crawls, white stretches," eg.) Very organic and intuitive-- in a way I imagine was your point to @gustavonarez. If that's the case, the Chinese presentation itself reflects the culture of this game. Myriad simplicities compounding into the next order of magnitude! haha idk. I bet it's easier said in Chinese
And Im sure he has it memorized his an 8th dan, alotta of players can actually replay a whole game if they've been playing for awhile, becomes second nature
This is excellent; I'm new to the game of "GO" and its hard to find English commentaries on the game (much less from games of Lee Chang-ho). Thanks =]
@gustavonarez Not only would that never happen, it'll be a great loss to the world if that ever occurs. Just in the domain of this game, if you understand both languages, you'll realise that there are many concepts that are much more succinct and apt in Chinese, compared to English.
@xorandor Not to mention that there are probably more chinese than English speaking people on Earth. we really ought to save THEM the trouble (like that would ever happen though :P)
@xorandor The same can be said for any language. Chinese is only 1 of many languages where complex concepts are concisely described. Mayan languages and other indigenous languages of Mexico & Central America have vocabularies rich in meaning. I like German because it is can describe in one word a concept that in English might require 2 or 3 words.
All languages are products of the sociocultural experiences of the people that speak them.
@gustavonarez how could u say that? Learning Chinese is so rewarding, learning all the characters and everything....I thoroughly love Chinese, so do millions of Americans
@gustavonarez rather getting all the chinese to adopt english as their main language, you could just adopt chinese as your main language. Saves billions of people the trouble. thanks :D
@izanam111 i would probably have to learn 10 languages to survive in this shrinking world. Learning just 1 international language would be much more efficient. However, that would imminently lead to lost of culture.
@96515325 I have yet to see anyone die because they don't know 10 languages. 1 international language is a great idea, in fact, i urge animals to learn it as well. It'd be very efficient indeed.
3:00 not "light", he's saying "Since it was Lee Changho's star point, he worried that he would stretch. If it was his own star point, then this would be more advantageous."
That doesn't even make sense even if you don't understand Mandarin. The star points are all occupied. I've also re-listened to this segment several times on the original video, it is indeed 轻。
@TAPpika@TAPpika Also, in the context of the game, and his hand actions, it's obvious to me that he means that the stretch would be a light-move that works in conjunction with the black stone at the star point, hence his pointing at it.
Chinese is my mother tongue, so if you don't believe me, dont.
The star points are all occupied of course. Reread my first comment. That's why he said it was Lee Changho's star point. If it was his own star point, then this would be more advantageous.
@MSJjoshua Hmm, I think you're right! I'll fix this error by inserting a caption, and will upload a new version of this video when I have the time. Thanks for spotting the error!
Please do! Google for "interactive way to go" and play through the tutorial. After that, practice with this program called "Igowin" (if you're using Windows).
If you want more information, try "Sensei's Library" or "Interactive way to Go." They are both really great resources that allow a person knew to the game to have a great understanding of it.
Thank you very much! Good job! Could you make also subtitles to: Japanese Shusaku documentary - 伝記の碁打ち本因坊秀策? (there is a topic on godiscussions about this film).
Thank you too for watching! I don't understand Japanese, only Chinese and English, so I can't help with subtitling that video. I'm a fan of Shusaku, so i'd love to see the subtitles being made someday...
Thanks! And yeah, got to keep a lookout for those. Hopefully, with a few folks helping me, there'll be less grammatical errors for the next video... whenever that appears. :-)
Please let other Go enthusiasts know about this video too!
This is a great idea, youtube is indeed lacking a Go community, or rather much of the west. Hopefully, this will turn into a new window of opportunity for introducing the game to others and helping others improve. If i may ask, where do you get your raw videos?

Most of them. He glanced at a kifu during the later part of the review. All professionals and many amateurs can recall entire games from memory.

Surely he had studied the game to make a good commentary before this cast. Remembering a game goes quite fast if youre used to it.
