Cavett just could not connect with Bowie. Too much coke on Bowie's part, too much smarmy midwestern uptightness on Cavett's part.

But Bowie could still perform even in this state. It's too bad the interview wasn't more interesting because Bowie obviously had put a lot of thought into his work.
