Tony was tough as nails with a murderous left hook but he was a crap boxer. He said himself that the main reason he lost this fight was that it was just about the only fight where he didn't cheat
@FerretJohn And he was doing a lot of holding and hitting. But the main reason he lost this fight was because his idea of defense was to block the punch with his face. It's not a real effective technique. He had good power, a good chin (which he needed) and his hand speed was OK. But he had zero defense. Absolutely nothing.
Tony was quite the character. To prove he was trainng seriously for the Louis fight he said he didn't drink any alcohol for 2 days before the fight. I can't imagine anyone beating this guy in a street fight.
in super slow motion, you can see that the knock down was actually caused by "two ton" biting a chunk of louis's shoulder, spitting it out, sauteeing it with some fresh peppers & onions, then finally eatting it on a kaiser roll with dell pickles & an eggcream. seriously.
it seems like tonys left hook become very predictable but it was is favorite weapon in
his arsenal so he was very good at using it.

Just found out who Galento was because he was in "On the Waterfront" as a thug. 5'9" and 240lbs...with obvious power.

Mixed in with the nonstop holding-and-hitting, Danny Devito threw a nice, crisp left hook.

That was a well timed counter that floored Louis. Galento had some skills after all!
