The bands whole image and sound was produced by his old friend from school who became a successful producer, who helped him out when the band was in trouble. Coming up with something completely unique in the present day is extremely rare. It's understandable if he adpots his style from others. The fact is that people enjoy his music and if his stuff was an obvious "copy" of someone else's work, Yoshiki would be in trouble. But since this is not the case, give him some credit. "Style" is just one element of music. Also, that video about his "copying ways" was stupid. Drama is part of live shows and he was actually working hard at the drums.

I will also add that "style," does not determine melody. "Style" does not determine emotion. "Style" alone does not creat great music.
Just because Yoshiki's work is similar to someone else's musically, it does not mean he copied them. It is only because old composers like Tchaikovsky are untangible that we have to assume they were original. Also Yosuke Yamashita's style is probably not "original." He may have just been the first one to have been recorded with that particular sound.

And for your information, it's actually the other way around. Lots of the technology and fashion trends orginated in Japan and other countries therefore adopted them. Even the super-glue printing method used in forensic science was invented by the Japanese in a factory.

You really need to get out into the world. I live in a place where there is a high concentration of Asians mainly of Japanese decent. None of them match that decscription. I don't match that description.
Also, the market is based on want from the consumer. Too bad if Japanese products are proven to work better and last longer. It's not their fault that they've created things that people can use well.

What exactly is he talented at? apart form stealing other peoples compositions? He didn't even produce the later half of his bands songs. The bands whole image and sound was produced by his old friend from school who became a successful producer, who helped him out when the band was in trouble. When they broke up, his friend tried to help him remain in the business with expensive publicity stunts, and when that failed, he turned his back on him. Yoshiki has been scraping the bottom

It appeared in a search result as I was looking for a certain classical love song. I actually remember this, because it was a few months after I started work at Polydor. This turned out to be the last project funded by TK for Yoshiki. As one of the producers here knows TK, it went around our studio for a laugh

That's not how music is done. Producers make the songs, and engineers (such as myself) record and "tweak" them until the producer and musician are happy. TK is a famous producer in Japan. I'm sure you know who Michael Jackson is, well the man behind his music was called Quincy Jones.
The exception to this, are the "real" musicians. The guys in the studio such as Lee Ritenour (or Japans own Ponta Murakami) or people such as Chet Baker and John Lennon who also write music.

Yeah, but it is common all over the world in music. On another note, if you watch a piano solo by Yoshiki, it is a direct copy of Yosuke Yamashita's unique style, although lacking his skill. The classical elements are from composers like Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky.

A quick example, but here are two videos.
The recycled piano solo by Yoshiki, it's weak playing but the part of interest is at the 5 minute mark. Yosuke's unique signature style is going from melodic playing into a barrage a madness, and then flowing back into the melody.

I hate to stick my nose in this so late. Both artists are from the same country and given Yamashita's apparent fame I don't doubt Hayashi has heard his music and was inspired. But here's what I feel you're not seeing. Going from soft to a "mess" and straight to soft again stared WAY before Yamashita, that's kinda just classical music. As for the music business, Yoshiki Hayashi started as a producer. He did write most of X's songs and those were what was played and recorded.
