  • To be honest I love most of the stock weapons because to many weapons just completely fuck up a mechanic to the class for example "your eternal reward how the first backstab has,is, and will be the hardest also good luck getting close to a sentry

  • I have been in complete love with the Widowmaker ever since I got my hands on one. The gameplay around it is a lot of fun and I feel like it makes the Engineer a much bigger threat by himself. I do tend to combat engie a lot with it, but even in classic wrench engineering it is amazing for self-defense.

    My other absolute favorite is the Atomizer. There's tons of times where that triple jump has saved my ass because it makes you even more unpredictable and mobile. It's also reasonably balanced

  • I like the Frontier Justice. If I use it correctly, I can get away when I see a group has destroyed whatever sentry nest I've set up and I can usually take them by surprise when I hide around the next corner with my crits.

    Also, it just looks absolutely fantastic.

  • The reason they do that is because nobody cares about teamwork in TF2.If you join an average server,I guarentee nobody will give a fuck about defense and ubercharges and whatnot.They just want to WM1 and spam all the way through.And the F2P update didn't make this any better (even though I'm F2P myself).

  • I personally prefer the Black Box. Only 3 rockets, yes, which is annoying against heavy, but if you're good you can rocket jump, let off 3 or 4 rockets in the air, and land with full health.

  • I can't decide whether the Ubersaw, EQ or Kritz is the best. I'd say Kritz cause it added a whole new mechanic to competitive play. Ubersaw and EQ set new standards for melees on their respective classes.

  • My favorite weapon? "Your Eternal Reward" sure takes out a huge mechanic out of the spy but gives him a better chance at fighting his enemies without giving too much of an unfair advantage because you still have to cloak go a bit behind the lines after you stabbed someone because seeing the guy that you just stabbed in the same place... They are gonna notice something 'fishy'.

  • @Clownremix when a pyro catches you on fire take the spycicle out and then you are completely fire proof for 10 seconds allowing you time to spray enforcer/headshot with ambassador and if the pyro is going degreaser, flares, axtinguisher (statistically the most common loadout) he cannot damage you for more than 15

  • God so many choices. For me, I'd have to say a tie between the market gardener and the huntsman. Market gardener is so much fun to use and it feels awesome when you get the crit shovel on someone. And the huntsman is also very fun to use. In addition, helps the sniper be a more offensive class who doesn't have to be m.r. god tier headshotter to go to the front lines, cap points and push the cart

  • Valve released the crafting menus for all of the holiday items like a month after the update. That's how I got pretty much all of them. Just in case you guys didn't know.

  • @TheFearbringer4u During the Christmas update they added the map Foundry and a handful of achievements that you could get from playing on it. If you get all the Foundry achievements you get a top hat. No hats for class achievements as far as I know.

  • I've been playing engie as my primary since the beginning and I completely agree with you. The engie has become more self sufficient with every update, but the problem is that the main engie counters (spy or demo/solly+medic) have also become way more versatile over the years. The enforcer and the direct hit are examples of this, and they make the wrangler and pomson nessecary in the first place. Now that they've started it Valve doesn't seem to be able to stop this escalating arms race.

  • Ironically, my favorite weapon is the mini sentry. It's annoying, but that's the point. it's a harrassment tool rather than a instant-death-machine. It encourages more creative sentry placement to catch players off guard. As for becoming a 'soldier' you do get crits with Frontier Justice, but only one shot per kill from your dinky sentry, so you gotta play smart and make those shots count.

  • I like your last question and I'd have to say the Banners (particularly the Battalion's Backup IMO) for the Soldier. The Banner's REALLY promote good teamwork! And the give/take damage is great way to prevent Soldiers from running ahead and getting mowed down, but instead stay back with the team and of course charging in all together is an awesome sight to behold! Hell, even if you ain't communicating with your team but you time the banner right, you can still come out strong!

  • It's not as if the weapons are bad because they blend the classes, imo it's bad because the weapons take classes and make them OP. Dr. Enforcicle, for example, is one of the reason rolling nerfs should come around. Sidegrades should be weaker then stock so they have a strategic purpose, not an upgrade.

  • @bobkillass You can still feed it to your medic to keep them alive, or give yourself complete health if there aren't any medics. I still think It's by far the best option for secondary, even after the nerf.

  • If there's one addition to tf2 that i hate it is the airblast. Why? Because it removes the pyro's two biggest weakness's, namely the soldier and the demo.

    Remember when the pyro didn't have airblast? Back then soldiers and demos were something to be feared. But with the airblast, what does the pyro have to fear?

    That's why i think my favorite item is the phlogistinator. Because it encourages and rewards pyros for surprising and ambushing the enemy. Which is how the pyro is meant to be played.

Great thing called a shotgun, and / or well placed rockets, as for phlogistinator? Come on man, thats what EVERYONE hates, it probably is the most imbalanced weapon made, if a heavy stands in front of a taunting pyro, and the heavy fires while he is taunting, the pyro won't die and gives the chance to kill him

  • @SuperSegaGuy That is very true, but, I don't know, I just don't think the phlog is very fair. I think its a great idea to reward pyro's but it is also taking out something that helps the team. Although you don't like air blast, it can really save peoples lives by putting them out of from a fire and although the man melter can do that it can't air blast rockets and stickies, which can save engineers, etc. It can also save people by air blasting ubered medics. I think it takes out teamwork.

  • I think my favourite item added to the game is the new Pyro secondary, the Manmelter. Like the Bazaar Bargain, it helps, and then rewards the player for doing something that they should be doing anyway, at the cost of being slightly hard to aim, having an unwieldily "reload" time, and loosing out on combos with Flare Guns/Reserve Shooters ect. It also allows Phlog and BB players to be team players again instead of herp derp W+M1 (which is detrimental to the playstyle of the Backburner anyway.)

  • I'm sorry, but I think the Gunslinger was my favorite addition. It opened up the Engineer class to me and made the experience less campy and more energetic and involved, fitting my play style more so than the Wrench ever could..

  • The design of TF2 has faltered for awhile now. It seems that in my time since starting (2008), the weapons have just gotten more and more ridiculous. At one time, team fortress two was really about working as a team, you depended on medics at the front, engies to hold a backline, spies to either defend ambush zones or break up rushes, and the other classes to handle what they do best. Now...well..not so much, everyone can do everything, with everything being chaos.

  • Actually, shotgun used to be quite viable on heavy before they buffed him. The windup time of miniguns was TWICE as long as it is now, and the movement speed when deployed was TWICE as low. A scout could solo you before you could wind up at all, this forced you to keep moving to avoid damage while using the shotty. Imho there is no need to get a new shotgun, just nerf the miniguns and remove or remake the tomislav, heavy is brainless to play now unless with brass beast.

    Overall: the idea of crafting weapons in online shooter. Win!

    Hunstman changed for me the Sniper class totally and made it the most fun class to play.

    Crossbow for the Medic - the same reason.

    Gunboats for Soldier.

    Eyelander for Demoman. Together with Chargin Targe'. Again something that basically created a new class.

    New PDA2 for Spy.

    Nothing for Engineer except ability to change the position of builded things. I like Minis but mainly in Sudden Death mode.

  • Well its hard to complain about and I'm not going to get super specific like some of the other arguments

    but lets be honest, TF2 ultimately is an aging game which is still probably the best example of what a good multi-player game should be

    At this point, the best way of keeping TF2 interesting for older players is to occasionally add new content, even if that content seems strange in function or unbalanced, its primary goal is to keep people playing such a long time after the games release

    -i disagree about your stance on combat engineer, you an focus on supporting your team while also using your shotgun

    -favorite weapon is the degreaser. It changes the pyro playstyle so much in a way that i feel is so much fun by taking the weight off of the w+m1 and allowing you to use that shotgun or flaregun

    Also try using shotgun and fists of steel. you can 1v1 anyone and its always fun to melee a pyro by running through his cone of flame

  • i love the Your Eternal Reward because you have to be more stealthy and you have to be smarter on how you play the spy and once you get thet first desguise you can destroy everything!!!!

  • The wrangler isnt badly balanced... When you change weapons the sentry stops shooting and has the shield on giving some time to repair the sentry. But if a good spy is there, he just waits for the engie to run low on ammo and need to repair. When the sentry shuts down and the engie works on repairing it he can backstab the engie and take out a level 3 sentry easy.

  • My favourite has to be the shortstop; it does a lot more damage than the scattergun at longer ranges, and has a faster firing rate and reload speed, so you can get damage out faster. Also because it's more effective at range it negates the use of the pistol, so you can choose something like the life saving Bonk! Or the team helping milk. I also think it is balanced because of the less damage close up.

  • Now answer me this. How the hell is a close-range class like the pyro who, mind you, ALREADY has enough trouble destroying sentries that AREN'T shielded, supposed to have a fair chance at killing the engineer, when A. the flares, which is one of the only ways to safely destroy a sentry as that class, is negated by the short circuit, and B. when you get past said sentry, can just teleport away, and have FULL HEALTH AND AMMO?! The Eureka effect is the farthest possible weapon from being perfect!!

  • Id say that the jarate + bushwacka were some really great additions. They made the sniper much better at support (what the class is meant for) without giving up close combat ability to counter spies. Cause the smg was not exactly a sniper type weapon in the first place. But all the new sniper rifles have failed to impress me. The oriinal sniper rifle is still the best as the bazaar bargain isnt gonna help much in a firefight and the machina is just a gimmick that gives away your position.

  • since i main a scout, id have to say the best addition to the scout has been either mad milk or the sandman. i say the mad milk because it helps greatly with spy checking, finding dead ringers or any cloaking scout whatsoever, and its a real life saver against pyros and when you just need a quick heal in a tight spot. the sandman lets you run up to soldiers or heavies or anyone posing a threat to you or a team mate and lets you take them out with simplicity. it also helps with quick escapes

  • Favourite weapon has to be the flare gun. I mean, afterburn is Pyro's thing. And the flare gun lets you do it at a distance. It's perfect.

  • @Flekyify I suppose, but there will be very few occasions where using the Razorback to limit a YER user's potential will be a better option than any of the other secondaries.

Whe spy has Wanga Prick or Your Eternal Reward, because either you have to shoot target, so you loose your disguise or stab the target, so I guess you loose your disguise too or if not, you just get yourself noticed. Or other thing is to just not try to attack sniper, but spies are made for that, but still it isn't really THAT of a problem, especially if someone is experienced with these knives.

  • I think if they just made Pyro better the entire game would be re-balanced and everyone would be happy. Never understood why Demoman received all of the melee equipment even though Pyro is the up close expert. Everyone can spy check and everyone can remove flames, making his roles moot. Most new weapons he gets give him such high risks that the rewards aren't worth it. Just give him a good long range weapon already, for god's sake everyone including Sniper have better melee weapons than him.

  • My favorite weapon is the fish. Definitely the fish. no question about it, it fits TF2's theme and style perfectly.

  • Not sure how I feel about the Phlogistinator, Pomson 6k, spy-cicle etc. I only have the Spy-cicle but have yet to use it to great effect and it hasn't really been too much of a problem for me as a pyro. I don't have the other items so I can't really comment on them.

  • I disagree with some of your points:

    In my experience the Razorback and Sydney Sleeper set are ok. The Razorback protects from backstabs only and need to be replenished. But that's only one of the ways a Spy can kill Snipers. It's not a hard counter .The Sydney Sleeper doesn't protect from full charge body shots w/c can still kill you in one shot. Most snipers I've seen don't even bother with the Sydney Sleeper.

  • It's funny. I agree with you; the whole "philosophy" behind these more recent updates have been flawed. However, I don't think that they ruin the game. Weapons like the Tomislav and G.R.U. are bad /in theory/ because they encourage Heavies to be someone that they're not. They aren't supposed to be near-silent killers that flank the enemy and then make a quick getaway. That's the job of a Scout, Spy, or (originally, at least) a Pyro. However, they don't ruin the overall experience of the game.

  • I personally never use the pomson and short circuit at once. I feel guilty as that decreases the pyro count. that means there is less pyros for me and everyone else. I personally like my strange shotgun for engy., a pistol, and a wrench. I use pomson only with combat engineer, and that I play when there are at least 2 engineers and we are NOT on the defense.

  • I was never happy when the Demoman was given a sword and shield. It turned him into a whole new class. That's not what Demos are for.

    As for my favorite weapon, I'd probably say the Crusader's Crossbow and Amputator are some of my top picks. The Crossbow's reload could use fixing, but still, they're both great alternatives to healing if the Medigun isn't an option for whatever reason. The Crossbow can be used for long-range healing, while the Amputator heals a whole group of people at once.

  • @DrunkOnChocolateMilk The Eureka Effect is a new wrench for the Engineer, introduced with the Australian Christmas 2011 Update. It allows you to teleport back to your spawn at the cost of not being able to move your buildings.

  • @Lemonukeable Balancing around that ended up being silly, from an aesthetic perspective. Still, the axetinguisher is pretty much the most consistently effective weapon because of all the other nerfs the Pyro's received. There are times where you have to go with what works. My only other issue is that, like the Degreaser, it makes practically all other Pyro melees useless. But there's no way to change that without players bombing Valve HQ.

  • WAIT there already IS a wrench that lets you build your buildings faster it's called the Jag I have a Hale's Own Jag it's awesome and your talking like it does not exist? I can play semi battle engi with the Jag since it lets you build normal sentry's in forward positions at about the same speed a mini sentry builds and a level one has more Hp does more damage and can be healed and upgraded.

  • Many of the weapons that change a classes role are simply there for a bit of fun and trying new things. All in all, a classes main role will always be it's most powerful role, thus people will will always use equipment to benefit that role.

    For instance,Spy-cicle melts once you've been licked by fire. That means you can't backstab, rendering you next to useless for a very long time. The better option equipment-wise is the Your Eternal Rewarding as, if used properly, is more rewarding for spies

  • @1TravellingJack1 Umm you do know when your spycicle melts you can just switch to your revolver right? People tend to forget just how powerful that gun is it does 40 - 60 damage per hit 50 -70 with enforcer the ultimate Op loadout with the spycicle is enforcer/spycicle/deadringer it gives you 2 defenses vs pyro and the enforcer to clean up with cloak time unaffected.

  • I don't think I agree with the idea that the gunslinger is too much, I do agree though, it is one really annoying weapon- I love using it as an anti scout weapon. It doesn't defend as well as a lv. 3 sentry (I almost think its on par with a lv 2 sometimes), but it does make the Engie an offensive class and It should cost more metal.

    Other than that, I agree with you. Some of these newer weapons are just not for a better TF2.

    I like the CloaknDag, Scottsish Res and Kritskreig.

  • Remember, that these unbalanced/unnecessary items have to be found/bought/traded. Obviously, in the end, every player will get at least 1 power weapon (newcomers will maybe find it harder then). But in the mean time, you will only have a few players with these weapons/items.

  • Not quite sure if I understood you correctly But what you were saying sounded a lot like what has been happening with the scout. Each scout item feels balanced And changes the way the class is used. Without giving it a direct counter to anything. I personally roll with the atomizer And the force of nature as I really love how I can reach almost anywhere a soldier can, And as I'm a pretty good scout, I can handle the 2 shots.   • Probably my favorite weapon ever is either the Degreaser or the Axtingusher, because they are so fun to use and add greatly to what the pyro can do without straying from what he is intended to do.

  • I completely agree with you Star. You make really good points as to where TF2 is heading. I also play MW3, where everything you do by yourself, which isn't really fun. When I first started playing TF2, I realized that it was a good game where you have to work with your team to accomplish goals, but now, its not really that anymore

  • My only complains are the Pomsom and the Enforcer, which causes spies to be undisguised, in the open sniping : /
