I'm a layman in clasical music but my soul enjoys it when it gets harmony, passion, rythm, and these kids just triggered that with their outstanding performance. Knowing the venezuelan mentality makes it understand much better how they got to that point. They sre unassumed, simple, unbiassed kids and much more of the positives.
@padredemishijos12 I think there is a new age dawning for the humankind..people have experienced all different kinds of exploiting of one another and I feel it kind of came to an end...the only exploitation left is of one's own, inner capabilities, potentials and talents - enriching oneself and (the others) from the inside. Say it's uthopian but do you have some other suggestion?!
@gitaclick not sure what could possibly be indicative of that. There is plenty of exploitation going on in every corner of the world, just as it has for thousands of years. And it will likely always be this way. Also, I see no basis for wondering why capitalism would suddenly fail. There is no precedent for such a thing, unlike extreme socialism and anything past that.
@JackSprattDaBat If we followed your kind of "rationality" we'd still be squatting in our caves, wondering what we could do about the cold and darkness at night.
@dragmio Entertaining reposte to the fatalistic JackSprattDaBat who prefers to keep humanity in the dark and in the cold and at each others' throats. I'm sure if he owned a company he wouldn't have anything negative to say about receiving a fat corporate welfare handout. There is nothing in the world wrong with governments like Venezuela helping to enrich the lives of their people by partially subsidizing music education and performance. In fact, we need to see more of this kind of support.
@BrucknerMotet In Venezuela the government does more than "subsidizing music education and performance" The Government of Venezuela, President Chavez, subsidizes the 500,000 children's families whose children study music for free. They get a small cash stipend for each child enrolled in music. This is very helpful because they mostly come from poor families.
@BrucknerMotet The Government of Venezuela not only subsidizes the music education of the children but also significantly subsidized the musician's families even with a small cash stipend per child. Most of these kid's families had never hear of Beethoven or Mozart much less Shostakovich. But just look and listen. This is a miracle.
This is what separates human beings from animals; the ability of this conductor and the accuracy and beauty of playing by the musicians in this orchestra is nothing short of amazing. They sound better than the Russian and Western European orchestras. Their commitment to this music is beyond belief. Venezuela should be proud of these young musicians. Where can I buy a CD or DVD of this performance? This is a gem and thank you so much for uploading it.
@alejoeisabel why is it important to remember?! they have been WORKING and that's the whole story about high and low art(ists) - if you work and study with adequate and commited teachers, your skill, knowledge, taste, musicality, talent, then this will be the result.
@padredemishijos12 Don't you see the irony in your words?! Why is the classical music the domain of the rich? The Venezuelan project proves that everyone can understand that "incomprehensible and not for uneducated" Western art music who is reared on it. Do you really think the future of the Western world can go this capitalist direction any longer?! El systema people proved that it's possible to do beautiful things not just for profit. And here appeares this long forgotten Christian word . . . .
@alejoeisabel and the problem in USA and the Western world is that for each fckn lesson you have to have at least 50euro and you know how many lessons you need in 10years?! and here somebody else pays for that and THAT is awsome. that principle should spread all over the world
An incredible performance. Such commitment on the part of these teenage players. Bravo, Gustavo Dudamel.

@SchwarzeDose21 "Remember to breath"? Just kidding! Woodwinds use paper to soak up the saliva from the key holes so it doesn't get clogged.

@Neishapour Teresa Carreno is one of the most well known orchestras in the world. Shouldn't be too hard to find an album.

@gitaclick It is important to remember that their couterparts in the Western World cannot ever receive the benefits that the Venezuelan kids get.
First, classical music is in the domaine of the rich
Second, the Western poor cannot afford the 50Euro/hour lessons over ten years
Third, Those who have money have disdain for the poor, specially if you are not white.
