Crime is all over, prostitution is like a cancer there, salaries are terrible, people are nasty mean racist, infraestructure is shit there, Catalan modernism? (an overrated concept designed to attract dumb western tourists); the food is bland, the culture is nothing out of the ordinary (for a real cultural experience go to India or Tokyo), Nightlife it's cheaper and just as fun in latin america or Asia. (without the catalan holier than thou attitude too)
I was born in Barcelona in 1975. After have lived around the world, I can confirm that Barcelona is the best pleace in the world.
Also I want to say that you can enjoy a lot of cities in Spain. Because I just think that a few people belive that we want indepence but is not true. Just a few people , maybe 1 or 2% of population wants indepence. But 99% of catalans we feel Spanish citizens.

@Gerardpb2 ..that is not true...I have just visited barcelona and very few people speak english. One also should avoid many of the cheap stalls and sideshows along la rambla as many are simply there to rip people off. Avoid the back streets of ciuad vella like the plague it is very narrow, dark and full of dodgy people.
barcelona has a huge nightlife scene, clubs like shoko and macarena are a must go, the food is delicious and it has alot of nice sights to see like sagrada familia
@sholayisme2 Nope. To tell you the truth, English isn't widely spoken here like it is in Northern Europe. But you won't have problem as a tourist as people here understands "some" English. Barcelona isn't really about beach. There are nicer beaches along Costa Brava, which isn't that far from Barcelona. Barcelona is about the getting lost in the labyrinth of Gothic quarter, the nightlife, dining out, museum visits and seeing famed architectural wonders of Catalan modernism.

Yes, we speak English, Spanish and Catalan.
Yes there a lot of hotels, but the best hotel is the 5 stars "Hotel Arts", 10 m near beach
There are a lot of things to do!, What about Sagrada Familia? Park Güell, Casa Batllo, La Rambla, Raval....
That's all from one Barcelona guy :P
