some looks like west michigan, some of it looks like mountain snow...the snurfer was born in muskegon michigan in the mid to late 60's...i had my first one at 10yo...loved carving thro 2 ft of fresh snow at sugar-bowl hill in montague township, michigan
You are fine to use this in your presentation as long as it is not a commercial project. The dates are listed in the beginning. It was filmed between 1968 and 1973.
When I was like 8 we took my friends older brothers "snurfer" it was yellow plastic and said somthing about a banana we both tryed once and fell. I got my burton backhill five years later.
NY ...We surfed , skate boarded and snurfed in the late 60's -mid 70's.... In the neighborhood we started down the hill and then let go of the rope and just "surfed" the hill.... 4 me there has never been anything like it... Boarding is close but immagine if you could slide your feet when boarding, ..... The main drawback of snurfing was it became a bit "nasty" without powder....Icy or hard crusty conditions made it difficult.....and no lifts....so climbing the hill was quite a work out ...
This is great... I still have my Snurfer "Official Racing Model" from my childhood. I was able to carve turns, get air and stop like on skis. As a skateboarder in the North East, the Snurfer was a natural for me. It was also great preparation for more modern snowboarding as the gear evolved. I'm gong to take my 6 year old out on my old Snurfer when it snows next. Thanks for the video!
@laxjunky204 nope....Sherman Poppen invented snurfing which became snowboarding when Tom Sims took the snurboard and started patent it in the early 70's. Burton wasn't around will the late 70's early 80's.
In the book, Have Board, Will Travel, the author talks of snowboarding dating back to 1939. I guess there is footage on super 8 and Jake Burton purchased the film. I'd be really interested in seeing it, but I cant find it.....
You're right, the 1st snowboard was patented in 1939 by my grandfather and 2 of his relatives. You can check out the YouTube video by searching 'Burgeson snowboard' - this is where it started, not with the "snurfer". I posted our actual 8mm video on YouTube. Jake Burton bought a copy of this 8mm from one of the other co-inventors. We have original snowboards too that can be found by Googling 'Burgeson snowboard' for more info.
Jake Burton the founder of Burton Snowboards was the creator of the snowboards. He rode the Snurfer and then afterwards he created bindings for it created the snowboard
@rurban technically speaking a monoski has to have two ski bindings attached to a snowboard lik board , invented in the 80's but never really caught on
Not fake! Rode an original Brunswick Snurfer for the first time today. The board was over 40 years old and it was super fun!

Actually it was called a snurfer. My dad is the snurfer in the bowler hat. He knew the maker of the snurfer and was helping to market them.
